Introduction: Holt-Oram syndrome is a low frequency hereditary disease, with wide clinical heterogeneity. Characterized by skeletal defect in the upper limbs of variable and asymmetric degree, associated with congenital heart disease.Case presentation: a four-year-old boy was presented, a male with a clinical diagnosis of Holt-Oram Syndrome, who presents shortening of the left upper limb, congenital heart disease and esophageal atresia, the first affected in his family, so it was considered that it occurred by new mutation. Conclusions: due to the unusual occurrence of this syndrome associated with digestive malformation, it was difficult to reach the clinical diagnosis, where the clinical or pattern method was of great value to define the case. It was necessary to consult the case with other researchers, without being able to carry out a molecular study. Considering it is important to reach the clinical diagnosis of the genetic disease to provide adequate genetic counseling to this family.

This article tries to give account of some relations between sport competitions and warlike confrontations. Works and Days, Hesiod’s didactic poem, and principally Friedrich Nietzsche’s reading of the passage in which the double nature of Eris is explained frame the comparison between two stories that, even appearing to be false or at least far away from historic truth, speak about the neutralization of war conflicts and their substitution through non-violent rituals associated to sports. The biographic writings of Hermippus of Smyrna about Likurgos and the instauration of the Olympic truce (ekecheiria) and a short story written by Robert Graves, a World War I British veteran, and dedicated to the football matches played during the Christmas Truce in 1914 are the two texts that, despite of being a systematic source of historical imprecisions, reflect how sport competitions constitute a very valuable tool in conflict resolution.

The anonymous Latin work Excidium Troiae (c. IV-VI AD) is a mythical text that narrates the Trojan War (from the wedding of Peleus and Thetis to the fall of the Trojan city), the wanderings of Aeneas and part of the Roman history, from its foundation to the reign of Augustus Caesar. Excidium Troiae has relative importance for the later production of works with a Trojan War theme, especially from the 12th century on, such as the translation made by the German Konrad von Würzburg, Trojanische Krieg. In this paper, we propose a translation of the excerpt from Excidium Troiae (4.23-32, 5.1-18) in which the mythical episode known as the “Judgement of Paris” is narrated. This translation is accompanied by explanatory notes and comments.

In this article, I advocate for the relevance and utility of ancient materials and sources in theorizing and implementing contemporary peacebuilding methods. In particular, I focus on the enduring use of sports and athletics as tools for transitioning combatants from wartime to peacetime, for mitigating the negative social consequences of warfare, and for developing a resilient, interconnected transnational community. I draw examples from well-documented source materials of ancient Greek athletics in order to make connections between ancient and modern practice and to draw useful lessons for today’s practitioners. By offering transcultural comparisons of approaches to conflict resolution through athletic competition, this article contributes also to debates about the ethics of using sport as an interventionist tool in post-conflict societies and demonstrates the benefits of taking a long historical view of global issues.

Starting from Martin Puchner’s classification, developed in the book O mundo da escrita, published in Brazil in 2019, which distinguishes between fundamental texts and sacred texts, this article reopens the old discussion about the criteria that govern these classifications and reaches the Bible, a text traditionally placed on the shelf of sacred texts. Thus, after presenting and analyzing new editions of biblical texts (editions that we characterize as secular) we ask if such editorial initiatives would not represent a process of desacralization of the Bible, giving it a new label that opens its covers to readers not linked to traditional religions, but who are interested in the classics of world literature.

In this article I analyse how the weep that Achilles and Priam share in the 24th song of the Iliad enables to resolve the conflict due to the struggle of the body of Hector and, furthermore, it is a precedent to consider the possibility of solving the warlike conflict between Trojans and Acheans. First, I propose how the weeping acquires a social function in the song, as it operates like a motif for the negotiation between Achilles and Priam. Then, I suggest how the weeping has therapeutics effects over the characters and makes the common recognition of his sufferings possible. Finally, and based on the above, I explore how the hospitality in this scene, which is the consequences of the shared emotions and the recognition of common sufferings, makes both characters capable of seeing and being in one another.

This paper is concerned with the role played by clementia (mercy/ clemency) as a particular peacebuilding skill in Late Roman Republic and Early Principate. More specifically, my aim is to investigate some of the historical and philosophical conditions that determinate the change of moderatio or temperance into mercy. My claim is that mercy becomes a concept closely related to the new stage of autocratic political power derived from Civil Wars, and therefore essential not only to justify the authority of the princeps but also to establish the requirements of the Pax Romana. Concentrating primarily on Pseudo-Sallust, Cicero, August, Seneca and Tacitus writings, I wish to demonstrate that moderatio and clementia are interrelated virtues applied to different historical contexts.
