In order to study narratives outside a History of Art with a positivist approach, as is the case of the medieval female monastic phenomenon, the specialised literature has been reformulating for decades a historiography of turns -such as the spatial or the material turn-, which allows the linear sequentiality of traditional historical discourse to transcend in favour of a hypertextual conception of the past. Moreover, the progressive specialisation of technological instruments has emerged on the academic scene as an alternative medium for the management, transference and research of these ruins, traces, and echoes of the Hispanic conventual heritage. Following such paradigms, this paper seeks to propose some ideas about the historical consciousness of the contemporary individual according to the parameters of philosophical hermeneutics and cultural history of art, for the particular context of the digitisation of heritage in the field of art and female religiosity in the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. This case study reveals a series of assimilations -and also digressions- developed between virtual heritage and the current historiography of turn; in response to the Information Society from which researchers, as historical beings, approach the discourses on the Middle Ages.

This article brings together a series of reflections that emerged as a result of the vision provided by the 3rd year subject of History of Art, Aesthetics and Design of everyday life at UMA, as well as by the work The System of Objects by Jean Baudrillard. As an object, the Christmas lighting of Larios Street for the 2022 festivities, designed by Iluminaciones Ximénez, is taken as a product of the main industrial engine of the city of Malaga today: tourism. From this staging, connotations, encrypted and symbolic values are derived that go unnoticed before the daily or idle gaze of the public that prostrates itself before them with no more interest, without a doubt, than that of the perfect post. This article aims to decode the narratives that are extracted from these ephemeral works. They can be considered as neo-medievalism at the gates of the modernization process that the capital of the Costa del Sol intends to undertake as a result of its bid to host Expo 2027. Precisely, the geographical framework of the Malaga coast is ideal for a phenomenon relatable with other cultural products that have followed one another as a consequence of tourism, transiting these through categories such as kitsch or pastiche. Although, there is a patrimonial identity substrate in everything analyzed that, duly, will be contextualized.

American Horror Classical Cinema from the 30s had two alternatives in the 40s, being one of them also inside the established classical parameters that found a new way in Val Lewton’s proposal at the RKO. The other alternative was born in Avant-Garde cinema thanks to Maya Deren’s work. She was a filmmaker, ethnographer, dancer, poet and photographer whose achievements and legacy have inspired several artists and filmmakers in the last seventy years. This text explores Maya Deren’s American independent cinema, analysing her short films Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), At Land (1944) and Ritual in Transfigured Time (1946), in order to expose how Surrealism (Luis Buñuel and Jean Cocteau films mainly) and Occultism (her experience as William Seabrook assistant and her interest in Magic, Cabala and Voudou) helped her to open a new way in Horror and Fantastic Cinema. Deren’s sensitivity to women problems and her love to dance made her film three movies where she shows three different phases of female initiation journey to a higher plane. It must be said that Meshes of the Afternoon was made in close collaboration with her then husband the czech photographer and moviemaker Alexander Hammid.
