Thymelaea lythroides is a threatened species with only two known populations in the Iberian Peninsula. A new population is located and data are provided on the surrounding vegetation, the spatial distribution and the sex ratio of the individuals that comprise it. Two releves are also provided with Thymelaea hirsuta and the vegetation series in which this plant appears, which is a novelty for the province of Seville, is discussed.

A catalogue of ferns and lycophytes has been made from the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Area. It is a territory located in southern Iberian Peninsula (Malaga province, Spain) and it is composed of Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park and a surrounding area proposed as National Park. 38 taxa belonging to 10 families have been identified. Of the three biogeographic subsectors that make up the natural area, those with the greatest diversity of taxa are the Marbella subsector with 24 taxa and the Ronda subsector with 21, and the least diverse is the Bermeja subsector with 16. Of the total of taxa, 7 are common to all subsectors. 8 are exclusive for the Marbella subsector, 9 for Ronda and 4 for Bermeja. The most important families in diversity are Aspleniaceae and Pteridaceae with 12 taxa each. The rest of the families range from 1 to 3 taxa. Of the 38 taxa, we consider 14 to be very rare in the natural area and 10 as very frequent. Only two of the catalogued taxa are considered as threatened (vulnerable) in Andalusia and only one is protected under Andalusian legislation (Regime of Special Protection).

The Chafarinas Islands constitute an important biodiversity area in the Alboran Sea (western Mediterranean) that is under protection. For the islands, we present a new record of Caulerpa cylindracea, an aggressive, fast-spreading invasive taxon introduced into the Mediterranean Sea a few years ago. We warn about a potential invasion in this significant marine reserve.

A revision of the distribution, ecology and phytosociological affinities of Maytenus senegalensis in the Iberian Peninsula is made, providing new chorological and ecological data, particularly from the coast of Granada (Spain), and proposing a new subassociation —Cneoro tricocci-Buxetum balearicae maytenetosum senegalensis subass. nov.—, belonging to the alliance Asparago albi-Rhamnion oleoidis. Data about conservation of the studied plant communities are also provided.

New records of the threatened fern Equisetum moorei in the Valencian Community are reported, where only six locations were previously known. One of the new populations significantly expands the known range in this region, since most of the known populations were concentrated in Peñagolosa mountains (Castellón province). Ecological and demographic characteristics of the new populations are described in the context of previously known locations in the Valencian region.

The nomenclatural types of Celastrus senegalensis Lam., basionym of the current name Maytenus senegalensis (Lam.) Exell, and C. europaeus Boiss., basionym of M. senegalensis subsp. europaea (Boiss.) Rivas Martínez ex Güemes & M.B. Crespo (Celastraceae, Celastroideae), are discussed. A specimen preserved in the herbarium P, at the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle of Paris, is treated in this work as the neotype of M. senegalensis, and a specimen kept in the herbarium G, at the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques of Genève, is designated as the lectotype of M. senegalensis subsp. europea.

Stellaria ruderalis M. Lepší, P. Lepší, Z. Kaplan & P. Koutecký, a recently described allotetraploid species belonging to the S. media group, is reported here as new for the Iberian Peninsula (Barcelona and Gerona provinces) and the Balearic Islands (Mallorca). This species could be widely overlooked due to its overall similarity to S. media, and it is probably more widespread than currently known.
