A resilient person shows courage, adaptability, calmness, and flexibility when facing different complex and unfortunate situations, incorporating new strengths. This research aimed to diagnose students' resilience level at the nursing professional technical level, as a basis for the proposal of methodological actions that contribute to raising this capacity in those enrolled in that career. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Nursing major of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Sagua la Grande, course 2022. The population was made up of 59 students who were in the first academic year, selecting a sample of 36 students through a non-probabilistic procedure of the type of voluntary subject. The adaptation by Novella of the Wagnild and Young questionnaire was applied, in which the dimensions are evaluated: self-confidence, equanimity, perseverance, personal satisfaction, and feeling good alone. The results showed a predominance of aging 15 years (75.0%), the female sex (80.55%), white skin color (83.33%), the average level of resilience in the satisfaction dimensions (50 %), feeling good alone (44.44%) and self-confidence (38.88%), as well as a low level of equanimity (41.66%) and perseverance (47.22%). The diagnosis allowed the career faculty to develop a set of methodological actions to raise the students' resilience level.

Respiratory diseases in small animals are a major challenge for veterinariansdedicated to pets. Chronic nasal discharges are of particular relevance, being these generally a symptom of upper airway respiratory pathologies whichare usually associated with nasal, sinus or nasopharyngeal diseases. Bacteria, fungi, foreign bodies, neoplasias and parasites are the main possible causes ofchronic nasal discharges. The pathologies produced by parasites are particularlyimportant since they often go unnoticed and are not usually taken into accountwhen they are included as a differential diagnosis of chronic nasal discharges. This research proposes the hypothesis that there is a high prevalence of Eucoleusboehmi (E. boehmi) in canines that attend the Clinic Hospital of Small Animals atthe National University of Río Cuarto (UNRC) and aims to determine the presence, prevalence and relationship of clinical symptoms with E. boehmi in these canines. To carry out the analysis, 60 faecal samples from randomly selected dogs wereprocessed by means of a simple flotation method with a sugar supersaturatedmedium and observed under the optical microscope at different magnifications. The results showed the presence of E. boehmi and a higher prevalence of thisparasite in comparison with the one established by previous studies. In addition, reverse sneezing was observed as the most frequent symptom in positive dogs.

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between Helicobacterspp and the functionality of bombesin-producing cells in gastric biopsies of pigs. The presence of Helicobacter spp was determined in gastric samples from theantro-pyloric region of mixed-breed pigs. They were colored with Hematoxylin/Eosin for the diagnosis of gastritis, finding a higher proportion of chronicthan acute lesions. The presence of Helicobacter was carried out by meansof Gi-emsa and Warthin-Starry staining, determining the presence of, at least, two species colonizing the stomach of the pig: one of larger size, intensely spiralHe-licobacter heilmannii); and another of smaller size, in the form of “s” italic(He-licobacter pylori). Helicobacter spp was localized in the epithelium, fossaand gastric glands by immunohistochemistry. The detection of bombesin producingcells was performed by immunohistochemical techniques and its percentagewas determined in samples with acute and chronic gastritis, Helicobacter (+) /(-). These cells were in the glandular epithelium, underlying connective tissueand muscle tissue. Statistically significant difference was observed between thegroups: Chronic Gastritis Helicobacter (+) / Acute Gastritis Helicobacter (+) (p= 0.04); Chronic Gastritis Helicobacter (+) / Normal Mucosa (p = 0.02) and inChronic Gastritis Helicobacter (-) / Normal Mucosa (p = 0.005). The group withthe highest number of bombesin positive cells was that of Gastritis Acute Heli-cobacter (+), whose cell morphology was closed type.

Ureaplasma diversum is a pathogenic microorganism detected in cattleand pigs. Different genetic types of the agent have previously been identified withtechniques producing poor reproducible or inconclusive results. The objective ofthe present study was to identify in silico tandem (TR) repeated regions in thegenome of U. diversum. The genome of the strain ATCC 49782 was analyzed, identifyingtandem repeated regions (TR). For each of the identified TR, specific primerswere designed, an in silico PCR was performed and the products were alignedagainst BLAST database to determine their specificity. Of the 51 species-specific TRidentified, 54.9% (28) encoding hypothetical proteins, and the rest is located in intergenicregions. The size of the identified TR varied from 2 to 102 base pairs (bp),repeated between 1.8 and 21.5 times, which would allow to discriminate them byelectrophoresis or sequencing. The identification of a wide repertoire of TR is thefirst step for the genotyping of the agent by a Multiple-Locus Variable Number TandemRepeat Analysis (MLVA), which would constitute a faster, more practical andreproducible method than other typing methods previously reported.

Weaning represents a critical stage in the productive life of pigs, facing factors such as change of feed, transport, the environment of newfacilities and the grouping with strange piglets that can affect the achievementof a good performance. The objective of this work was to quantify the effectsof uniformity, weight and number of pigs per pen post-weaning on the dailyincrease, feed conversion and mortality in the confinement breeding system. The experience was carried out between 2016 and 2017 in a full-cycle pigestablishment. We used hybrid pigs, weaned at 28 days of age and housedin confined-room pens, with all-in-all-out handling. We controlled the initialindividual weights and the final weight, determining the daily increase, feedconversion and number of deaths per repetition. Three experiments werecarried out: 1. Effect of uniformity and weight of the pigs. 2. Effect of group sizeand 3. Effect of housing light piglets in pens of lightweight pigs or heavy pigs. The results found in the daily increase, feed conversion and number of deathswere significantly better in the treatment of “homogeneous heavy weights”than on “homogeneous light weight”. There are no differences when theywere compared with the treatment “heterogeneous weights”. The welfare ofsmall pigs housed with larger groups often compromises the performance ofthese animals in the stages of growth and termination.

The enrichment of degraded grasslands by overgrazing andother anthropogenic disturbances is a very important objective of the use, management and conservation of these vegetation systems. The restoration ofthe floristic composition of grasslands through intersowing, a technique thatconsists of artificially reintroducing the absent species, has been recommendedin the literature. However, the ecological theory behind this technology hasnot always been made explicit, especially in those interventions that seek notonly to increase and improve the quality of forage offerings in the grasslands, but also to conserve the predominantly native floristic resource at the sametime. The concept of species pool explains the patterns of local vegetationvariation in terms of regional processes, unifies the ecological, evolutionaryand dispersion aspects, and allows understanding the causes of diversitypatterns of floras that are observed for any region under study and constitutesa solid scientific basis to understand and sustain the enrichment techniques ofdegraded vegetation systems.

The syndrome known as “fall ear” is a clinical disease observed in cattle.Several etiologies have been described to cause the disease. The aim ofthis study was to characterize 3 cases of “fall ear” in cattle, with Cryptococcusidentification. Two cases were from feedlot cattle and one case from a dairy calf.Clinical examinations, necropsies, histopathological techniques and differentmethodologies were carried out, including fungal isolation and identification. In all the cases, an increase in the size of the Gasser ganglion was observed. Agranulomatous reaction and structures positive to PAS dyeing compatible withCryptococci were found in the histopathological study. A diagnosis compatiblewith nervous cryptococcosis in the 3 cases was determined through isolationand typification of Cryptococcus neoformans in 1 animal, anatomo-histopathologicalstudies and structure and dyeing. Through tissue PAS dyeing and fungalisolation, structures compatible with Cryptococci were described.

In the following descriptive work, data obtained during the 2018 foalingseason a thoroughbred farm located in the southern region of Cordoba Provincewere analyzed. Sixteen pregnant mares that foaled between August 3 and October6 were monitored. The results showed that the gestational length in mares was 360± 10 days as a general average. The second stage of labor culminated in an averageof 12 ± 11 minutes. The third stage of labor lasted 1.28 ± 1 hours on average. 31%of mares had milk secretion in udders 30 ± 23 hours before delivery on average.44% (n = 7) of deliveries occurred without assistance while the remaining (n = 9)received assistance. The infants adopted the sternal position in 2.47 ± 2 minutes, the standing position at 34 ± 17 minutes and released the meconium in 3.28 ± 1.51hours as a general average, taking as reference the completion of the second stageof labor. Abnormalities were found in low percentages in newborns and umbilicalbleeding at birth in 27% (n = 4) of foals. The data presented here show that monitoringin the last days of pregnancy in Thoroughbred mares, as well as, in neonatesduring the first weeks of life would increase the chances of obtaining a viable foal.

The gastrointestinal system is a unit where coexist digestive, gut associateimmune system and microbiome coexist, interact between them since thebirth and modulate the avian grow, through different mechanism and biologicalsignals. On this way, an efficient gastrointestinal functionality is in intimaterelationship with welfare and productive performance of this animals, whichare developed in intensive conditions. A lot of factors are influence on gastrointestinalsystem, modify it both positive and negative way. They are: nutrition, avian immunological state, breeding and the environment, items intimatelyrelated with the intense genetic selection that were subject this commercialavian. Nowadays, the words lay force to remove the antibiotic growth promotorfor natural additives in avian production. So, the research in avian nutrition islooking for natural additives, which influence over productive performance andgastrointestinal: probiotics, prebiotics, symbiotic, organic acids, enzymes andphytibiotics, with good prognostic for using in avian nutrition, but some of themare still in study.
