Introducción: los dispositivos electrónicos han evolucionado con su miniaturización y su mayor potencia. Se estima que actualmente existen más dispositivos móviles que personas en el mundo. En estos momentos el desarrollo de aplicaciones que apoyen la enseñanza se ha universalizado y el entorno médico no ha sido la excepción. Objetivo: validar una aplicación móvil para dispositivos Android que sirviera como herramienta para la determinación del test de chi-cuadrado. Método: se realizó un estudio de tipo innovación tecnológica en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Ciego de Ávila “Dr. José Assef Yara”, para la validación se diseñó un estudio no observacional pre-experimental de una sola medición sin grupo de control, se aplicaron encuestas a los expertos y a los usuarios. Resultados: según criterio de los expertos se obtuvieron resultados de excelente en cuanto a la utilidad (100 %), diseño (94 %), aplicabilidad (100 %) y eficiencia (100 %). Conclusiones: luego de la valoración por los distintos grupos y los resultados positivos obtenidos, puede considerarse que la aplicación DepeMed puede incorporarse como herramienta para apoyar las investigaciones médicas. 

Introduction: tuberous sclerosis is a chronic multisystem disorder with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, where the severity of symptoms and complications determine the prognosis in these patients.Case report: three-year-old, white skin female patient, who went to the on-call department of Jose Luis Miranda Provincial Pediatric Hospital because, according to her mother, she presented inattention and headaches. Questioning, physical examination and complementary tests were performed. Although the tests did not show any abnormality, a neurocutaneous syndrome (tuberous sclerosis) may be suspected in this patient. She is currently under periodic monitoring by the Neuropediatrics, Cardiology, Dermatology and Ophthalmology services.Conclusions: tuberous sclerosis is a neurocutaneous syndrome with systemic repercussions. Sometimes dermatologic lesions are the earliest form of presentation of the disease. Correct physical examination of the skin is necessary to reach a timely diagnosis of neurocutaneous syndromes. Because of its variation between subjects, mastery of the major and minor criteria is a requirement.

Paciente masculino de 14 años, sin antecedentes patológicos personales ni familiares, que acude a consulta de cirugía pediátrica remitido de su área de salud por presentar aumento de volumen de testículo izquierdo de un mes de evolución que se acompañaba de dolor que aumentaba con los movimientos y esfuerzos. Al examen físico se aprecia una masa consistente y dolorosa a la palpación de alrededor 6 cm. Se realiza el diagnóstico presuntivo inicial de quiste de epidídimo. Se programa realización de escrotomía. Se envía muestra de la lesión para análisis patológico el cual revela un quiste multilocular del epidídimo.

Introduction: the evaluation of scientific trends in Internal Medicine affects the decision-making and training of an internist capable of providing a more comprehensive service to the sick adult population.Objective: to describe the scientific production on Internal Medicine in the journal Universidad Médica Pinareña between 2005 and 2017.Method: a bibliometric study was carried out in 41 articles on internal medicine published in the journal Universidad Médica Pinareña between 2005 and 2017. The information was processed using absolute and relative frequencies, calculating the Price indices and annual collaboration. The final results were presented in statistical tables and graphs with respect to bioethical principles.Results: 21,69 % of all publications were on Internal Medicine with a thematic predominance on non-communicable diseases (24,39 %), as well as articles with 4 authors (56,10 %). The most productive specialties were Internal Medicine (19,51 %) and Comprehensive General Medicine (14,63 %). According to typology, the review articles predominated (48,78 %), with an average of 20,4 bibliographic references , mostly in Spanish (71,17 %) and an average Price index of 0,61. Primary health care contributed 22  % of the works and 5 investigations were from other provinces.Conclusions: the study reflected the comprehensive training of appropriate students of investigative and scientific skills of the Internal Medicine specialty, tutored in the study of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in adults.

Introduction: fever is one of the most common medical problems experienced by children. It is clinically defined as a body temperature of 1°C or more above the mean standard deviation at the site of recording.Objective: to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and beliefs with parental attitudes towards fever in children under five years old attending emergency and pediatric services.Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study on 335 parents who attended twice or more the MINSA II-2 Tarapoto Hospital due to the occurrence of fever in their children. The variables studied were the level of knowledge, attitudes towards fever and socio-demographic variables.Results: parents were between the ages of 20 and 29 (63,6 %) and 77 % were female. Secondary education (33,7 %) and higher education (33,7 %) predominated; 53,4 % of them reported having only one child, and 60 % of them worked; 95,2 % of the parents showed insufficient knowledge and 62,4 % showed a non-optimal attitude in the occurrence of fever in their children. An association was found between attitude and level of knowledge (p<0,02).Conclusions: most of the parents with fever-phobia were young females and first-time parents, with university studies. There was insufficient knowledge on the part of the parents, as well as non-optimal attitudes, both variables correlated.

Con el objetivo de describir la aplicación clínica de las moléculas presentadoras de péptidos como nexo fundamental entre la respuesta inmunitaria innata y adquirida en la Medicina Interna se desarrolló la presente investigación. Se consultó un total de 16 bibliografías, llegando a la conclusión de que las moléculas presentadoras de péptidos se expresan en células de la respuesta innata, pero presentan los péptidos antígenos a células de la respuesta adquirida (linfocitos T). Las clases fundamentales son las moléculas presentadoras de péptidos I y II que reconocen antígenos endógenos y exógenos, respectivamente, para ser presentados a los linfocitos TCD8 o TCD4 para su eliminación. Estos conocimientos son indispensables en el área clínica debido a su relación con los trasplantes de órganos y numerosas enfermedades autoinmunitarias.

Introduction: epidermolysis bullosa refers to a heterogeneous group of chronic hereditary pimple-like diseases affecting the skin and mucosae with blisters and vesicles after minimal injury, with variable involvement of other organs.Case report: 3-year-old female patient with exulcerated skin lesions and some erythema crust-plaques, with scaling at exposure sites such as hands, knees, feet, back of the neck and genitals. She was admitted to “Hermanos Cordové” Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Manzanillo. The medical care was based on maintaining the integrity of the skin avoiding trauma, temperature control, nutrition and prevention of secondary infections. A simple epidermolysis bullosa is diagnosed by skin biopsy.Conclusions: the disease is scarcely known with low incidence and prevalence. It is a major problem in the family and social environment, as parents are dealing with a rare disease of genetic origin and poor prognosis. Medical-social support helps to minimize the problems by means of information and coordination. Treatment requires the care of a multidisciplinary and specialized team.
