The research proposal presented in this article is part of an ongoing status, and attempts to explore the process of the generation of adult subjects. Each society distinguishes age classes that embody the crossing period on which a cultural imaginary was prepared. Assuming that the modes of incorporation of adult subjects have changed, that the steps and, above all, the ages at which they occur mark different milestones and the processes have varied, there are significant differences depending on structural and biographical issues. This field is where you will find questions, and analyze the patterns which the generation of adult subjects is acquiring. As a general hypothesis, it suggests that «there are qualitative differences in the ways in which they articulate the transition to adulthood, depending on the social and generational core with generational differences according to socioeconomic levels of gender and family».

Social movements pursue collective goals in interaction with opponents. Its power of influence will depend of their level of strength. This article offers a new conceptual synthesis of the notion of strength from descriptions in literature about social movements and the elements of the concept of strengthening or empowerment from community psychology. Through this conceptual tool is analyzed theoretically the student movement between the years 2002 and 2011. It follows that it is a movement with important strengths, as heartfelt demands, a consensual interpretative framework in the essential and achievement of sympathy in the population, a major motivation of control, a good horizontal organization and direct tactics. On the other hand, deserves no doubt the level of attainment of goals, the identity as a movement, the clarity of internal and external borders, and exploitable opportunities policies in their favor.

Bourdieu’s cultural capital theory has had an ambivalent relationship with the idea of «youth». On the one hand, the first steps in life are key moments for habitus building and, doing that, set the basis for future achievements. On the other hand, youngsters occupy subordinated positions in the social field and they are recipients of particular cultures from their families and social contexts of breeding. However, a significant number of studies on cultural capital performed during the last few years have concluded that age is a very important variable in order to account for the patterns of behavior found. Even so, in the past, studies done from the theory of subcultures have been those which have made more progress in understanding youth cultures. This article attempts to contribute to the development of cultural capital theory taking advantage from the dialogue and methodological convergence between both theories, and this is done using evidence from the Chilean case.

Chilean society, in the last forty years, has undergone a series of structural changes, and along with them, there has been a deep reconfiguration of the ways in which subjects are positioned in these new structural and subjective conditions. In this article, we are interested in exploring the manner in which these economic, political and cultural changes have been making complex the traditional way of relationship between the youth and the educational field. Specifically, how secondary students who attend municipal-public schools in Chile, metaphorically represent this educational institution which at different moments of historical development of Chilean society was a privileged field of social integration and which nowadays has become a powerful mechanism of social exclusion.

This article presents conceptual elements for research with indigenous youth in the Latin American context. Going to a type of synthetic research analyzes how this topic has received little worked in the social sciences and particularly in the development of the studies related to youth identities. This situation falls critically in what has been the construction of the adult centrism which is identified as a problem inherent to the development of the conception of the modern subject. Criticism involves recognizing that indigenous young people, in their condition of subalternity, are subject to an interpretative matrix that operates from a double negation of contemporaneity.

This paper proposes a revision of a set of phenomena in the framework of the study «Youth, culture and education» of the Ministry of Education of Chile and the Foundation System of Spain. By focusing on the qualitative phase of this study, we describe the most relevant aspects of the youth story around the areas of: a) characterization and values of youth, b) participation and citizenship, and c) educational trends. Similarly, this paper ends by suggesting a themed agenda of research facilities that it may deepen certain dimensions that this study did not address fully, given constraints of its nature and purpose.
