Resumen
In recent years and in the North and South of the Mediterranean have emerged several youth protest movements against political and economic institutions, which include the «arab spring» and the «15M» in Spain, two models that took different ways and achieved unequal results. This paper discusses about two basic questions: do they respond to different socioeconomic situations and which shared factors are there? Through the exploitation of opinion polls data from international surveys, the objective of this article is to analyse a set of economic and social agents that have influenced the growing distrust of this group towards the governments of their respective countries.

Resumen
The present article categorizes the dominant representations of declarative structures of verbal-visual discourses in the depiction of the social actors linked to the student movement. Based on a mixed and comparative social semiotic approach, the research covers information published in the newspaper El Mercurio de Valparaiso and the digital daily El Martutino between June 2011 and May 2012. The findings present the crisis of representation deliberately dramatized and amplified by the media, oversimplifying the scope of the student movement and excluding and decontextualizing it from the complex network of actors and social processes.

Resumen
The present work is the systematization of some of my reflections on the epistemological guidelines of the field of youth studies in my native Argentina, as a part of a wider, in-process exploration focused on the ideological assumptions of the connection among stratus, gender and age. In tune with the invitation made by my Chilean male and female colleagues to rethink today’s bestdefining youth «markers» in the current situation of our Southern cone countries, I outline some challenges our investigative practices are faced with, and the intellectual commitment we made under this new scenario.

Resumen
This work is focused on participation in Universidad de Concepción from two main stances; on the one hand, from a student-actor standpoint, involving the development and assumption of an active stance on the undergraduate program in the university community, as part of it. On the other hand, from the university, as an institution-actor standpoint, not only in charge of management but also of arranging and ensuring participation opportunities for students in order to be an «active part of university». The concept «student participation» is characterized, also the idea if students understand the participation as eminently political and governmental, excluding other participative dimensions is established, and the approach of the political dimension, closer to governance or cogovernment is concluded.

Resumen
Although the student demonstration cycle has been developing for more than fifteen years, its climax in 2011 took Social Sciences by surprise. This situation forced them to generate emergency readings, to reducing demonstrations to a condition of social force, focusing, mainly, on the external dimension of the movement (the action repertoires in the public sphere, the porosity of the political system to process demands, etc.), and relegating its internal dimension, where an alternative project would develop, to a secondary place. These post-2011 emergency readings (particularly, from the New Social History, and the production of Latin American critical thinking on the social movements are balanced in the article, in order to establish a contextualized and analytical matrix.

Resumen
Based on 15 semi-structured interviews, the discourses of two generations of student leaders from Universidad de Los Lagos (the generation of the late 1980s and the current one) are contrasted in order to analyze changes and continuities in terms of their rhetoric, organization modes and internal and external links. The results show the transition from a discourse based on national political projects to another discourse, which is at odds between pragmatism and subjectivation as a collectivization of the individual. In addition, concerning their regional location, both generations contrast their particular relationship with the government and metropolitan leaderships, outlining their views from decentralization.
