The present article is an extract of a Critical Documentary research (Hochman and Montero, 2005) performed to the total of the technical guidance documents implemented by the National Service of Minors (SENAME) to carry out the mandates of Adolescent Juvenile Criminal Liability Law (LRPA 20.084) in Chile. The value of this analysis is provided by the guiding nature of the documents analyzed, stating the general guidelines to be followed by youth social reintegration programs, both for their execution and for their adjudication (bidding). The method of study for this research was a critical hermeneutic analysis (Fairclough, 2003) since it is sought to establish a relationship between the discursive elements to be studied and the social and political phenomena in which they are inserted. The Chilean socio-political context is characterized in terms of what Garretón (2012) defines as a "corrected neoliberalism", presenting certain features of a neoliberal system. Foucauldian concepts of power were incorporated into the analysis to explain the essential attributes of this type of government (Foucault, 2007). The article concludes by confirming the general research hypothesis, by stating that intervention policies in penal reintegration of adolescents in Chile are devices of power that seek, either veiled or explicitly, to maintain and reproduce the neoliberal model as the dominant governmental regime of life by means of social discipline of the youth population in question.

The article is part of the result discussion work in the context of a Fondecyt initiative on corporal practices and narratives in Chilean urban young individuals carried out between 2015 and 2017. The objective of the text is to analyze the main meanings, habits and care that youths develop towards their corporal experience and personal image, by means of identifying imaginaries, processes of subjectivation and social agents feeding, regulating and tensing these dynamics, in a social scenario of strong uncertainty and social discomfort particularly visible in younger generations. A biographical method was used, including 40 life stories of young individuals from diverse social contexts, socioeconomic strata, interests and lifestyles in the cities of Concepcion and Santiago. The work proposes a typology of corporal experiences, and a bodygraphy synthesizing the corporal-related visions expressed within each typology, allowing the observation of some tensions and alternatives in diverse generations and young worlds.

This article tackles the role of Police and Security Forces in the process of constructing the future working lives of young male students from FinEs2 Plan. Based on a qualitative methodological approach, the analysis is carried out in two levels. a) The study of career paths of three young male individuals and b) the reconstruction of the process of unequal job position configurations of the labor market. Finally, from the articulation of the structural conditions of life and of the capacities of agency of young people, progress is made in terms of identifying distinction, classification and estimation work-related systems.

In order to inquire into the inequities in daily commuting of young individuals from working class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, the present article sets out links between Danilo Martuccelli’s sociology of individuation and studies about spatial mobility. From the analysis of data collected from a currently ongoing study, commuting is identified as a daily challenge for these young individuals, as a big part of their everyday activities is developed out of their neighborhoods. Such challenge, implying a big effort to go through by means of material and symbolic support, reflects several inequalities but also the strategies to deal with them.

The text introduces and analyses the different practices, dynamics and senses included in the recreational and festive alcohol and cocaine consumption for young women from Metropolitan Region, by means of drafting and characterizing their usage according to four different consumption cultures (punk/hardcore, underground, alternative and house/electronic), in different display territories of action and moments of ritual consumption chains. In addition, we traced the different transgression, flexibilization and continuity processes of social normativity regarding drugs, emphasizing the tensions raised by female consumption within the youth cultures and sociabilities. We state, therefore – as a hypothesis – that we are witnessing the reconfiguration of gender normativities, which are linked to a process of transformation of the consumption patterns of transnational drugs, in the context of the deepening of the anti-drugs punitive paradigm and governmental management of youths.

From an ethnographical perspective, this article covers a conflictive episode happened in a high school in Cordoba, Argentina leading up to the expulsion of a student. The characterization of this student as a “problem student” makes visible certain intragenerational and intergenerational linking dynamics revealing an obligatory nature of school where the right to education competes with an individualistic logic, in connection to certain recent research referring it as deserving logics. The exploration of linking correlations turns into a powerful analyzer of the cultural difficulties of implementing a compulsory nature in Argentina’s high school.

This article presents the findings of a research carried out with young participants of the otaku culture in Chile, aiming at understanding the process and mechanisms which individuals have constructed their own personal and social identities from their participation in the specific interactive scenarios – known as “events” - of this youth culture, along with the material and symbolic consumption occurring in such spaces. In order to do this, a sample of seven events carried out in the regions of Valparaiso and Santiago between 2014 and 2015 was developed. Qualitative data was collected by means of participant observation technique, whereas an analytical technique inspired by the fundamentals of B. Glasser and A. Strauss’ “Grounded Theory’ was also performed. The results were classified into three main areas: 1) identity aspects of young otakus, 2) forms of partnership and 3) the role of otaku identity in their own lives.

The present article aims to analyze the expressions of gender inequality in Physical Education (PE) classes in school, with a study performed in two primary schools from Pelotas-RS as its object of investigation. The data was obtained by means of document analysis and open and closed - ended questions in questionnaires answered by 11th grade students. The results show that the hegemonic perspective of PE reproduces social inequalities in general, making inequality and women’s oppression deeper.
