Resumen
Analysis, facsimile reproduction and translation of Juan Andrés’ «Letter on Arab Music», dated Mantua, March 29, 1785, addressed to Giambattista Toderini and published in his Letteratura turchesca (1787). All the oriental knowledge is condensed in this small letter which, with the help of Miguel Casiri, allows the Valencian Jesuit to begin the academic studies on Arab music. Supported by an al-Fārābī manuscript, the goal of the epistle is to validate in musicological terms the influence of Arab musical art on European music, and in general the ‘Arab Thesis’ presented in the first volume of his Dell’Origine, progressi e stato attuale d’ogni letteratura.

Resumen
Here is a new critical edition of the Latin comedy by the humanist Juan de Valencia on the biblical parable of the Lost Son (Lk 15.11-32). This edition is based on the only two existing ones prior to ours: that by J. López de Toro (1971) and that one by J. Alonso Asenjo (2007). We also add a translation, the fi rst to be made in Spanish, along with numerous annotations in order to aid in its reading. Juan de Valencia’s work offers an important example of a Latin school comedy from the mid-16th century. Although it was built on the biblical text, it shows interestingresonances of Latin classics, especially Terence. It was represented in Malaga outside of the great university centers of its time).

Resumen
In this paper we analize the use of terms of address in customer service encounters in educational institutions in a city in the linguistic area of the Buenos Aires Spanish variety. We propose to examine how they contribute to the expression of (im)politeness in those domains. Our theoretical and methodological approach is based on Interactional Sociolinguistics, with contributions from Ethnography of communication, Goffman’s Microsociology (1967), Discourse analysis and Sociocultural Pragmatics.

Resumen
Analysis of the press releases published by García Márquez from 1980 to 1984 in several newspapers from Hispanic America. It is an important source for the study of the ideas of the Colombian Nobel prize about the Spanish language, and more precisely about dictionaries and Spanish vocabulary. These ideas are related to aspects such as the subjective meaning of words, the submission to the prescriptive sources, the preservation of the language purity or panhispanism, all this from a glottopolitical approach.

Resumen
The Crónica general de la Guerra civil (1937) was published by Maria Teresa León and Federico Miñana; it offers in 65 chronicles a view of the firstyear of the Spanish War written by a number of republican intellectuals. These texts usually provide information on episodes of the war, but reflections, nostalgic evocations, panegyrics or notes about culture too.

Resumen
This issue will deal with the literary configuration of the olive tree through its iconic transfer between cultures, lending a magnifying glass and carefully listen to the references to the olive grove that are often found in the poetic work of Nicaraguan Rubén Darío, the great anticipator of all poetry in Spanish of the profuse 20th century. For this reason, the ectopic gaze that is projected from Hispanism towards our Mediterranean coasts where the olive tree has been meaning that sacred myth of creativity is of interest.

Resumen
Despite the many myths that surround Fernando Villalón and his short literary activity, the Sevillian writer’s publications show us a most original collection, into which he very successfully incorporated with themes banished from literature, confirming his filiation as a poet of another lineage.
