The present paper studies the links between memory and translation —in a dialectical relationship— in La casa de los conejos (Manèges. Petite histoire argentine, in French) by Laura Alcoba. Its translator to Spanish is Leopoldo Brizuela. The first section contains a theoretical approach to the premise of language as a translation process. Besides, the paper carries out a textual analysis of a specific word of the author's mother tongue. This word is an analogy of translation and memory. The trauma account of the last Argentinean dictatorship can be formulated as a form of translation. The second section analyzes the translation work, through an interview with Brizuela. The act of translation leads the translator of memory work and allows him to recover his childhood language. This aspect makes the second part of the hypothesis possible: translation as memory work.

In contemporary Mapuche poetry, the practice of collaborative translation holds a special place in that it can be understood as one of the current efforts of intellectuals, writers and translators of the Mapuche nation to revitalize their vernacular language, Mapuzungun, within the cultural and literary fields. We will examine the case of the anthology of Mapuche poetry written by women, Kümedungun / Kümewirin (2010), where most Mapuzungun versions were translated by the poet and linguist Jaqueline Caniguan and her team of collaborators. The recreation of the language through neologisms, the ideological positioning of the translators and the reflections on the process developed in the paratexts of the anthology will be analyzed around a specific example: the collaborative translation of the poem «Mi destino» by Adriana Paredes Pinda.

As the founder of the Big House novel, Maria Edgeworth occupies a privileged place in Anglo-Irish studies. This article aims to analyze the translation of Edgeworth's tale "The Limerick Gloves" (Popular Tales 1804) from the viewpoint of Itamar Even-Zohar's polysystem theory and Gideon Toury's Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS). This story is one of Edgeworth's Rebellion narratives and is interestingly placed between Edgeworth's bestseller Castle Rackrent and her so-called Irish novels. Here we deal with the text published in Bibliothèque Britannique by the brothers Pictet, who had already versioned into French many stories penned by Edgeworth.

The central elements addressed in this article are the processes, tensions and dilemmas that arose from the study of public policies of recognition of the P’urhépecha cultural heritage. This article will present a synthesis of this problem that we jointly focus on as dilemmas derived from a process that has become more acute and has shown new developments, especially in the last two decades, now in the form of public policies that tend to centralize decisions regarding the management of culture. Our goal is to reflect on these long-term processes, which we see as being in a consolidation stage at the beginning of the 21st century, under the Magical Towns program created in 2001, from which the so-called Don Vasco Route derived in 2011, while some manifestations originated in the indigenous communities against exclusion and the way in which these policies have been implemented.

The railway culture has been a space for the reproduction of hegemonic masculinity in practically the entire world. In Chile, for more than 160 years, the State Railway Company was established in a secularized space in which transversely, in all its states, the categories of an exclusive and closed masculinity group were reproduced. The conditions of this process of gender construction in the company of the most important State in the country for territorial articulation and connectivity are analyzed. Its relevance is marked by being the model institution in Fordist industrialization from the mid-nineteenth century until its decline at the end of the twentieth century. The areas of socialization of masculinities in the railway world are characterized in the context of a culture that makes feminine invisible by relegating it to a vicarious alterity

El artículo aborda la etapa como impresor del escritor y periodista Gonzalo Aurelio Esteva Landero, mediante el análisis bibliográfico de las obras que publicó su imprenta, resguardadas en el acervo de la Biblioteca Nacional de México, por lo que se da cuenta de los temas, autores y traductores que integraron su producción editorial, así como del contexto político y las condiciones del medio tipográfico entre los años 1877 y 1887.

This article analyzes the works of Father Agustin Rivera on the subject of the novohispanic higher education and his inheritance. He was an avid critic of the practices of educational institutions, of the absence of modern science, as well as of “false scholasticism”. He vindicated the scholastic method and training based on the reading of Latin classics. Renowned as a liberalist, his work brings us closer to the complexity of that category in the subject of education and its relationship with the religious.

This paper proposes an approach to the various repercussions that it had among Spanish immigrants based in the city of Buenos Aires in the early 1930s, thebeginning of the republican experience in Spain and the transformation of the colors of the Spanish flag as a national symbol. The disparity of opinions expressedtowards these events was an indication of the deep ideological polarization that, years later, characterized the Spanish community in Argentina as part of the development of the Civil War in their homeland.

Károly László was a Hungarian exile who resided in Mexico between 1857 and 1865. Chief surveyor, chief engineer, entrepreneur, traveler with personal experience on the Tehuantepec route, American citizen, Hungarian nationalist and prolific writer. He kept a diary during his years as an expatriate and produced some of the first articles that the Hungarian public could read about Mexico. This essay studies the writings of László in order to complement the existing sources on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec with both new data and an unusual, east- European perspective.
