The study of the actions of pigs gives veterinarians the opportunity to know and recognize their behavior, facilitating their preventive and curative care. Pigs have different behaviors, and these animals are very intelligent and have actions and reactions that are very characteristic of their wild descendants, which are wild boars, which helps, in general, in the understanding of these behaviors. This report presents results of observations and records of breeders that, as a whole, help in the study of swine ethology.

Objective: To analyze the theoretical and methodological contributions of the scientific production registered in Scopus Elsevier, corresponding to the period 1999-2020, about youth, intergenerational and intragenerational relations for the formulation, implementation and evaluation of public policy. Methodology. Traditional bibliographic and alternative metrics were used following this steps: 1. Identification of key words on the subject of youth and public policies, 2. Definition of the research formula, 3. Generation of a database with scientific articles on the subject of interest, 4. Document review and information analysis, 5. Evaluation of traditional and alternative metrics. Results. 5 of 74 scientific articles identified on the subject of youth and inter and intragenerational relations were used in policy documents in Switzerland, Australia, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Conclusions. The scientific articles found are oriented to the use of the participatory approach that recognizes the relevance of the participation, voice and involvement of girls, boys and young people for the creation of relational knowledge that contemplates intergenerationality and intersectionality.

Roads are a significant threat to wildlife, in fact, many mammals are killed on Costa Rican roads each year, but the impact on the mammal communities is not yet understood. Objective. To determine the incidence of roadkill of wild mammals on Route 720 and its relationship to topographic variables of the road in Concepción de Balsa de Atenas, Alajuela, Costa Rica in the last 7 years (2015-2022). Methods: We analyzed road kills of mammals in route 720, Concepción de Balsa de Atenas, Alajuela, from 2015 to 2021.  The highest incidence of road killings occurred in a section of a straight segment and open curves of the road, where the road is close to living fences which are frequently used by wildlife as cover and corridors to travel.  Results: In total, 12 individuals were recorded killed by being run over, the species with the highest frequency of deaths on the roads was the common opossum (Didelphis marsupialis), which is consistent with other studies.  Conclusion. It is necessary to carry out studies in similar rural agro-landscapes that are crossed by roads, since these landscape mosaics of different land uses are important for the maintenance and persistence of wildlife.

We deepen into the life stories of renowned women entrepreneurs to uncover the motivations, constraints, and success factors of the emergence of successful female entrepreneurship. Three in-depth interviews on well-known and successful Costa Rican women entrepreneurs were conducted by means of narrative techniques. Our findings provide empirical evidence suggesting that the motivations of very successful women entrepreneurs are universal. Besides, the constraints of very successful female entrepreneurs are diverse, from which the need of financial support, the lack of strategic planning, the bureaucracy lack of knowledge in marketing, the reaction of competitors, stand out as relevant constraints. Furthermore, our study reveals that intangible factors, that is, human and social capital, are fundamental to growth and consolidation of companies created and managed by women. Finally, our results suggest that women entrepreneurs prefer to measure their entrepreneurial success through emotional and personal aspects rather than through financial or market metrics.

This work presents the results of a study carried out in a team-taught English course at the University of Costa Rica. It is based on the hybrid modality it is intended to design a proposal of a didactic lesson which follows Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and active learning methods. Its innovation relies on a techno-pedagogical element that aims at generating a change from a traditional methodology, in which in-service professors will embrace in the implementation of student-centered teaching strategies to have a more dynamic, enriching, and challenging course. A sample lesson combines the tools of the University of Costa Rica’s virtual platform Mediación Virtual and a series of digital resources to complete the pedagogical framework of the Inquiry-based Model. The results of a brief questionnaire will be analyzed to assess students’ perception on the teaching modality, the implementation of virtual ICT-based activities as well as their opinions on teaching strategies that best fit this course.

It is thus important to have a deep understanding of such a phenomenon and its implications. The aim of this paper is to problematize speaking anxiety in order to have a solid understanding of this situation and its potential implications within language learning contexts. Another purpose is to explore the literature on strategies used by learners to handle speaking anxiety. Likewise, the paper is to offer an overarching panorama of such a phenomenon within the field. It comprises seven sections containing relevant considerations and insights. The paper adopted an exploratory methodology that included a systematic revision of information on the phenomenon. The main conclusion establishes speaking anxiety as a significant issue that impacts students’ performance in language learning settings.

Objective. Explain the development and description of the first respiratory ventilator model developed at the UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA NACIONAL (Costa Rica) from its conceptualization, organization, assembly, testing and commissioning, from the mechanical context to digital technicality. This device was put together by a group of students of the Electronic Engineering MAJOR, with the guidance of the authors of this article which became a remarkable job for the university community. Results. The main results proposed a table of costs, mathematical formulas working according to the variables that characterize the subject of breathing, speed and periods of inhalation and exhalation that are combined with the digital and mechanical elements so that it becomes a functional device. to health. Conclusions. A functional and economic model was created that allows one to save life, using PLA materials, iron on an ambu pump, thanks to a programming language that favors the control of the device in the motor.

This paper presents the results of a literature review related to the relevance of the capital asset pricing model (CAPM) in emerging markets. It is highlighted that this model is based on certain assumptions about the functioning of financial markets and about the behavior of investors, whose validity has been the subject of debate in the academic world, which has given space for the emergence of various proposals to adapt it to the reality of emerging markets, which are limited to introducing operational changes and are far from transcending its epistemological foundations.

Objective. The objective of this article is to analyze the contemporary poetic discourse in Central America of the 20th century, based on an interpretation of three aesthetically poetic discourses from the books “El sol púrpura” (2018) by Alejandro Marín, “Central América” (2013) by Julio Serrano and “Entre una y tres de la mañana” (2008) by Johanna Raabe. It will investigate the formal, decolonial and gender specificities of the three books and their relations with the Central American literary tradition and culture. Methodology. It uses a comparative methodology to establish ruptures and experimental gestures as part of a neo-avant-garde in Central America. Conclusion. The ruptures with the Central American nation states are evident.
