ABSTRACT:This article addresses the role played by destruction and catastrophe within contemporary art, especially in practices that intersect art and technologies to display processes of devastation, accumulation of vestiges and investigations with ephemeral materials. After studying some artworks that have explored auto-destructive act as an artistic gesture throughout the last decades, the article analyses certain Latin-American projects that embody tactics of constructive destruction. The ruins produced by these works do not refer to the past. Instead, the act of devastation in the region could be interpreted as an aesthetic and political strategy of critical resistance towards the status quo. Keywords: contemporary art; catastrohpe; destruction; Latin-America; technology.

ABSTRACT:This paper aims to be the analysis of a series of pieces made in the late nineteenth century that copy a beautiful Portuguese plat from the sixteenth century placed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, according to the romantic and historicist set of mind of the silversmithing in the nineteenth century. We have found copies and imitations of the piece related to the artist Ricardo Martínez Costoya, official silversmith of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela between 1886 and 1924; and with Karl Haas, who run the galvanoplastic atelier in the School of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1866. In this study, we will try to determine the curious iconography of the plate; and especially, we will reflect about the attributions to Martínez based on our knowledge of the artist, and the difference between the pieces we attribute to Haas. Keywords: Silversmithing; plat; sixteenth century; nineteenth century; iconography.

ABSTRACT:The founding chapels of Vasco de Quiroga in Michoacan are decorated with beautiful paintings that mark a resurgence of Christian doctrine and Marian devotion, especially of the Immaculate, in the 18th century. The images burst from a new ecclesiastical campaign on the defense of the faith as a cultural and social manifestation of the Hispanic world and “soul” of a unitary conscience of a religious nature. Keywords: Art; Painting; Iconography; Hospital Chapels; Baroque.

ABSTRACT:This research project sets out, on one hand, to describe certain strategies for the preservation and restoration of Internet art, and, on the other hand, to provide an approach to the definition, phases and types of manifestations. The concept of Internet art encompasses a variety of expres-sions that share the same format and identical approaches to documentation, exhibition, storage and/or upkeep. What is more, the notion of net art is the generally accepted term. Likewise, the development of this type of art has been reconstructed over time. We also describe several cases of restoration and examples of preservation techniques carried out at benchmark institutions. It was also essential to attempt to define conceptual authenticity as a fundamental requirement to address any type of intervention. In this sense, we observe how immaterial peculiarities become a new “materiality”. As a result, we define the compatibility between the preservation-restoration strategy and the constant meaning of the work of art. Keywords: Conservation; Restoration; Internet Art; net.art

ABSTRACTCardinal Ximénez de Cisneros (1436–1517), undoubtedly among the outstanding figures of the early Modern Age in Spain, is one of the most widely portrayed Spanish statesmen in engraving. This article examines not only the representations of the figure of Ximénez de Cisneros in this technical medium from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, but also explains why these engravings were produced in a sustained manner during this period, as well as the media in which they appeared and their iconographic models. The text deals briefly with well known exemplars, but especially with others never discussed until now, in order to offer a complete view of the case and highlight the importance of the cardinal’s portraits, and their diverse visual lineages. Keywords: Cardinal Ximénez de Cisneros; engraving; visual lineages; illustrated book; Early Modern Age.

ABSTRACTVitruvius and Isidore of Seville make reference to the venustas. However, the sense of it in De Architectura differs in substance with which appears in the Etymologies. In this article we intend to verify such differences, which leads us to conclude that the Seville does not base his notion of architecture on the vitruvian treated. Keywords: Vitruvio; Isidoro de Sevilla; Venustas; Pulchritudo; Architecture.
