This work aims is to analyze and make known the role of investment in transportation infrastructure: base of the implementation of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which is considered as China’s general plan of trade openness and international cooperation with foreign countries, officially announced in 2013. Statistical analysis has been used, through which clear infrastructure development was seen as a priority of the economic policy of the countries of Asia Pacific (PA), serving as interconnection with the countries of the region.  This confirmed the pure interest of investors in the implementation, extension, and concession of ports and railways, thus generating a breakthrough for the economic development of the region, as well as increasing the competitiveness and presence of their products in the world market.

This article aims to discuss the roles of local governments in the era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a case study of Gyeongsangbukdo Province and Daegu Metropolitan City in South Korea. The study looks at the main official development assistance (ODA) policies and activities of these two local governments, and how these two local governments have adopted the SDGs framework. In doing so, this study has employed the approach of network governance regarding the establishment of partnerships between a central authority and local governments and between local governments and other aid stakeholders at the local level. The findings of the study suggest that local governments’ ODA policies and activities in South Korea are barely commensurate with recent norm change at the international level. Given this, this study argues that local governments in South Korea need to develop their ODA capacity building in order to be in line with international norms.

This article aims to conduct a systematic review of studies on teaching of Spanish as a foreign Language (ELE) for the specific purpose of foreign trade in Vocational and Applied Education in China between 2000 and 2019. A search in the two most well-known and used bibliographic bases in China (China National Knowledge Infrastructure ?CNKI? and WANFANG DATA) allows to identify the thematic areas on study so far: ELE curricular development; the role of foreign languages in the training of professionals in foreign trade; and activities and strategies for teaching. There is still a very recent interest (especially since 2009) in this field of study. The results draw an overview of the emergence of different challenges, including the study of communication and learning needs of ELE for different professional performances.

The current research analyses the agglomeration behavior of Japanese Foreign Direct Investment in Mexico’s automotive sector in the Bajio region. The study employs unpublished data obtained from Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy. The database is used to carry out the empirical analysis using spatial econometric techniques and test the presence of spatial dependence in the variables of the model. According to the results, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, labor force, transportation infrastructure, and geographical distance explain Japanese FDI agglomeration in Mexico’s Bajio region. The results also elucidate that economic similarities within entities may help attract investment in similar proportions to neighboring states. Additionally, positive spatial effects from Japanese FDI were found, suggesting that an increase in Japanese FDI in one state is followed by increments of Japanese investment in neighboring states. This may be evidence of horizontal cooperation and a result of Japanese firms taking advantage of scale economies and the development of specialized labor markets and suppliers in the Bajio region.

The Manila Galleon, or Nao de China, was the most important transpacific route between the 16th and the 19th centuries. The city of Manila became the place where commodities from China and other Asian countries were exchanged for American silver. These goods were loaded and sent to Acapulco, from where they were distributed to the rest of Hispanic America and Europe. This paper provides a panoramic vision of the history of this transpacific route. In addition to serving as a state of the art of the current research about this topic, a comprehensive approach is carried out by including not only the traffic of goods, which most authors have focused on, but also the movements of people and ideas, as well as the regulations for trade and distribution among the main actors of the profits extracted from this transpacific journey. The exchange of texts and ideas between both sides of the Pacific Ocean is emphasized in this paper.

Since the starting of the process of commercial opening, initiated in the last decades of the 20th century, ports gradually modified their functions and forms of modal, logistic and territorial articulation to respond to the imperatives of geographical reach and efficiency demanded by increasingly globalized productive chains. In this sense, this work analyzes the position and the role of the container ports at the Mexican Pacific in the context of the formation of a global multimodal transport network that conditions and determines their destination. From a conceptual perspective based on the space of Castellian flows and the territory of Veltz’ networks, it is evaluated the possibility of consolidating concentrating ports at the Mexican Pacific which articulate flows not only to and from Mexico, but also those that have their origin or destination at other countries in the region, thus promoting its relevance as key port nodes connecting multimodal transport chains at national and continental levels.

There is no clear consensus on the effects of corruption in different economic dimensions, although it is normally perceived as harmful for variables such as growth or FDI. The aim of the paper is to determine the effect of corruption on human development in Latin America and China. The methodology employed is a static data panel with the Prais-Winsten transformation with corrected standard errors for correlated panels (PCSE), and dynamic panel data from the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) and SYS-GMM, for 18 Latin American countries and China for the period 2001-2019. It is shown that corruption serves as a development constraint for most of the countries in the sample. However, for some countries like China, it is found that corruption has a positive effect. There is also a significant difference in the sensitivity of development to corruption among countries.

In 2001 China’s entrance to the World Trade Organization represented a major threat to developing countries including those from Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean. Countries such as Mexico were worried about its inclusion for China’s competitiveness was a great challenge to face; others such as Chile took advantage of the benefits of being part of the multilateral forum and began negotiations to formalize bilateral cooperation. What are the main characteristics of bilateralism? What benefits can China bring as a trading partner within the framework of an FTA? Can the Chilean case be taken into consideration for other countries to pursue bilateral agreements with China? This paper has the objective of answering those questions through an analysis of the scope of trade agreements, the Chinese integration to the World Trade Organization and its free trade agreements network, and the integration of China with Latin America, with a special focus on its relationship with Chile as the first country in the continent to have an agreement with China.

This article analyzes the appearance in the world of electronic commerce, emphasizing the cases of China and Mexico countries that have implemented a series of actions, strategies, programs, and even plans to encourage the use of electronic media and digital in the transactions of economic agents. The findings suggest that China has become a leading country in the use of electronic commerce, thanks to the clear vision it has, particularly in the 21st century, while Mexico presents less progress. However, in recent years it has stimulated the transition from consumption to electronic mode. The article concludes that both countries must intensify their electronic commerce, to transition to the economy of online shopping definitively.
