Vitiligo is an acquired hypomelanotic disorder of the skin resulting from loss of functional melanoctyes and it affects approximately 0.5-1% of individuals. 25% of vitiligo in children are diagnosed before 10 years of age. The age of onset of vitiligo in children ranges between 4 to 8 years. Depigmentation in oral cavity can be easily noted and awareness about the condition can be created if they are not aware about vitiligo elsewhere in their body and can be guided for the treatment.

Fracture of an endodontic file inside a primary root canal is a rare but critical complication during the pulpectomy treatment, because the mechanical obstruction impedes the optimal cleaning and obturation of the pulp canal, compromising seriously the clinical outcome. This accidental event is mainly associated with over-use and excessive torque of intracanal files. Most clinicians opt to proceed with the extraction of the affected tooth followed by a space maintainer placement. Other practitioners attempt the non-surgical retrieval of the separated fragment through available proven techniques in permanent teeth; however, these methods may involve significant damage to the tooth and surround tissues. On the other hand, preservation of the metallic fragment might affect the treatment prognosis and interfere with the physiological root resorption.

A descriptive and exploratory study was carried out with the aim of proposing and validating an open protocol for making 3D impressions of stereolithographic models, which is available to professionals in the area of Dentistry. Nine operators (senior students of the Dentistry degree), without previous experience in the use of software and hardware for 3D printing, divided into two groups were trained through theoretical and practical sessions. The A worked with three helical tomographies (TAC) and the B with three cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), all in DICOM format, converted to STL files. In total, 99 bone structures corresponding to 33 jaws, 33 axis and 33 facial masses-skull bases were analyzed, and a total of 33 jaws were printed in PLA (polylactic acid filament). At the end of the study, no statistically significant difference was found in the implementation of the proposed protocol between the operators, the measurements of the pieces printed by each of them, the gold standard, the TAC and the CBCT, with which not only validated the protocol, but it was possible to determine the resources necessary to carry out this type of 3D printing.

Immediate loading of full-arch prostheses on dental implants in the upper arch is challenging, as the bone is of low quality and obtaining sufficient torque may be difficult. The purpose of this case report is to describe the rehabilitation of a full-arch by means of placement of four internal tapered connection tilted implants and immediate loading. A 65-year-old man sought dental care with a partially edentulous upper arch. The teeth presented mobility and were extracted. In a second step, two conventional-length implants were placed in the anterior region and two tilted and nasal wall–directed extra-long implants in the posterior region. The insertion torques of 60 N.cm allowed the installation of an immediate prosthesis (hybrid). The clinical case report suggests that the placement of tilted and extra-long implants in the paranasal bone and immediate loading may be a viable option for rehabilitation of the edentulous upper arch.

Virtual reality (VR) allows its application in different fields, such as healthcare. In dentistry, this technology has enormous potential, in the educational and clinical scope. Its applications are of increasing interest and importance in dentistry, especially in teaching, as it offers interactivity and high effectiveness in learning. In the treatment of phobia to dental treatments, this technology is also promising, since it shows satisfactory results and in the surgical area it has a high potential for complex treatments, allowing predictable and safe results. However, future studies should focus on establishing technological standards with high data quality and on the development of approved applications for the clinical routine. Thus, the objective of this literature review was to provide clarification on the knowledge and scientific development of VR in dentistry.

The goal of this article was to review the most common temporomandibular disorders according to the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular disorders (DC/TMD) emphasizing in the criteria for headache attributed to TMD. By presenting a clinical case that shows the characteristics of a patient with masticatory myofascial pain, arthralgia of the temporomandibular joint and headache attributed to TMD. A case of a 34-year-old female patient is presented, the diagnostic process and its approach: self-care, modification of parafunctional habits and behaviors, physical therapy and pharmacological support.

Purpose: The seal of the interface formed at the implant-abutment connection is essential for the long-term success of the implant-supported restoration. The aim of this study was to analyze the mechanical behavior and the effect of cyclic fatigue before and after in the marginal fit of implant-abutment according to the manufacturing technique of the abutment. Materials and methods: Machined titanium abutments (DENTIS), cast abutments with Nickel-Chromium alloy (VeraBond II), and manufacturing custom milled Zirconia abutments (Zirkonzahn) were evaluated. The implant-abutment assemblies were subjected to cyclic loads of 133 N at a frequency of 19.1 Hz for 200,000 cycles. The microgap was measured using Scanning Electronic Microscope and the distribution of compressive stress by the three-dimensional Finite Element (FE) method. Results: The microgap measurement values of the machined abutments were 1.62 μm and 1.92 μm, cast abutments were 14.14 μm, and 28.44 μm, and the milled abutments were 14.18 μm and 20.15 μm before and after cyclic fatigue, respectively. Only the cast abutments and the machined abutments showed a statistically significant difference before and after cyclic fatigue (p ≤ 0.05). The FE analysis showed that the critical areas of compressive stress were located at the implant-abutment connection, increasing in the cast abutments and decreasing in the milled and the machined abutments. Conclusion: Cyclic fatigue exerts an effect on the dimensions of the microgap at the implant-abutment interface before and after loading; this microgap depends of the type of abutment material and the manufacturing technique.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of pulp stones in a group of Peruvian adults using cone beam tomography (CBCT). Materials and methods: 60 randomly selected CBCT from a tomographic center in Lima, Peru were analyzed. A total of 1263 images of teeth using the Point 3D Combi 500 S tomograph were evaluated. Images analysis was performed with Real Scan software and all teeth were evaluated in sagittal, axial and coronal views. All measurements were subjected to a chi square test. (p<0.05). Results: Of the 1263 teeth, 30.8% presented pulp calcifications through the CBCT. The prevalence of calcifications was higher in women than in men. The maxillary and mandibular molars were the groups of teeth with the highest frequency of pulp stones. There was significance between the pulp stones and the gender, age range, type and state of the tooth. Conclusions: The maxillary first molars had a higher prevalence of pulp calcifications than the mandibular ones. The presence of caries increased the possibility of the appearance of these calcifications, specifically in the maxillary teeth. CBCT could be a sensitive tool to detect pulp stones. Knowledge of the distribution of pulp stones can help dentists in the clinical treatment of endodontics.

Langerhans cells histiocytosis is a rare disease characterized by monoclonal proliferation and migration of special dendritic cells in a variety of organs, most commonly appears eosinophilic granuloma localized, often solitary, and bone lesions that occurs predominantly in pediatric patients. Although is most prevalent in children under the age of 15, this disorder presents in all ages and occurs at a rate of 2 to 5 cases per million per year. LCH is a complex entity; the clinic manifestations can mimic other common conditions and therefore a comprehensive evaluation is indicated. Since oral manifestations are frequent, the early diagnose of this pathology could be detected by dental professionals. The aim of this case report is to describe a case of LCH who initially was misdiagnosed and treated for a dental infection. This disease requires accurate histopathological diagnosis and timely treatment; hence it is necessary to raise awareness among dentists to avoid misdiagnose of oral manifestations of LCH.
