Supernumerary premolars have received special attention due to their development during adolescence, representing a dental anomaly of number that could be attributed to a “third dentition” of human species. The goal of its treatment is to avoid possible interference in occlusal development, as long as the benefits of supernumerary removal outweigh its risks. This is a case report of the orthodontic and surgical management of a patient that has been in clinical and radiographic follow-up along eight years (since childhood through adolescence) with the emergence of non-syndromic multiple supernumerary premolars, showing an apparent familiar pattern.

Ectopic eruption of a tooth is the process in which a tooth emerges in an abnormal position. The first permanent molar is the tooth that most frequently presents ectopic eruption, mostly because it is retained below the distal contour of the second temporary molar.  The ectopic eruption may be reversible or irreversible, the latter of which requires corrective treatment to achieve correct eruption of the permanent molar in the arch. Treatments can be minimally invasive, such as the use of interproximal wedging, or more invasive orthodontic devices, such as brass wire, k-loops, Halterman devices, or wedging springs. The aim of this case report is to present two clinical cases where the ectopic eruption of permanent first molars is corrected using elastic separators. Conclusion:The elastic separators could be used successfully in cases of moderate or severe ectopic eruptions, not only in mild cases, as reported in most of the literature. The use of this technique does not require great cooperation from the patient, and it is low in cost.

Defects that occur during the development of anterior teeth are often associated with aesthetic problems. Although enamel hypomineralization does not significantly increase the risk of caries, it causes patients to experience psychosocial problems. A 23-year-old female patient presented to our clinic complaining of white opacity and discolorations in her anterior teeth.  After the systemic and dental anamnesis of the patient, minimally invasive treatment of resin infiltration was planned. In addition, anterior composite resin restorations with impaired color matching was renewed. The patient was recalled 13 months after the treatment. A significant decrease was observed in the appearance of enamel hypomineralizations. The patient was satisfied with the outcome of the treatment. Furthermore, the durability of the treatment after 13 months is satisfactory.

The clinical management of the epulis involves the elimination of causal factors, excision of fibrous tissue excess accompanied by an appropriate prosthetic rehabilitation. The confection of interim prosthesis or the rectification of old prosthesis for the setting up of a tissue conditioner if necessary, to improve the healing and prevent the decrease of the vestibule depth after the surgical exeresis. Throughout this paper, we are going to present a new technique for the correction of old prostheses poorly adapted for the management of a case of the epulis fissuratum.

Objective: To evaluate the esthetic perception of the smile according to the variation of the vertical position and the angulation of the upper central incisor (UPI) by dental students (DS) and common people (CP) of three regions of Peru. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional design. The sample was 462 adults, divided into 77 for each subgroup of DS and CP of the Lima (Coast), Junín (Highlands) and Loreto (Rainforest) regions. Using the Photoshop® software, a photograph of a woman's smile was modified by varying the vertical position and angulation of the UPI, obtaining images that were evaluated using the analog visual scale. Results: The CP rated better than DS in most categories (p <0.001). The smile best valued by DS in a vertical position was 1mm and 2mm; and for angulation 0°, while for CP 1mm and 0° respectively (p <0.05). Comparing by regions, the DS of Lima gave the lowest rating for 0 ° with 52.63 and those of Junín the highest for 4° with 45.90. The PC of Loreto registered the lowest score for the vertical position categories (p <0.001), while for angulation in Junín it was rated with a lower score than in Loreto for -6 ° and 0 °; and for 4° Lima provided the lowest rating (p <0.001). Conclusions: The esthetic perception of the smile is affected by the variation of vertical position and angulation of the ICS in common people and dental students in the three regions of Peru.

Focal fibrous hyperplasia (FFH) is an oral mucosal localized non-neoplastic enlargement representing a reaction to chronic local irritations or injuries. The purpose of this report is to describe the management of an asymptomatic fibrotic lesion located in the tongue, in a preschooler boy. A 7-year-6-month old boy attended our clinic for the evaluation of an exophytic pedunculated tumor-like round mass located in the dorsal surface of the tongue. Based on the initial examination and the natural history of the lesion, the presumptive clinical diagnosis determined an irritation FFH. The lesion was surgically excised with a diode laser device, and the postoperative period evolution occurred without any complication. The appropriate treatment of FFH in children initially consists of the removal of local irritant factors. Excellent oral hygiene maintenance and close follow-up care are strongly suggested. Surgical excision is the most frequent modality for persistent lesions. Early diagnosis and proper management of FFH can reduce the risk of future recurrences or complications.

The presence of deciduous canines in adulthood may be of aesthetic concern for patients. Many clinical alternatives include surgical and orthodontic treatment. Since patients search for highly esthetic results and more conservative alternatives, the present clinical report describes a treatment for deciduous canine through an indirect composite resin veneer and an indirect composite resin fragment restoration in a premolar to improve esthetic outcomes with a one-year follow up.

The exponential rise of the SARS-COV-2 virus pandemic in Mexico is a major issue. We can contain its spread with the use of various medical disciplines. However, we need to review lowcost and tested strategies to improve their implementation, for one example health literacy. Thus, the main purpose of this work is to analyze the importance of health literacy in pandemic containment in Mexico. With a conceptual study, we identified the main factors that help develop this disease, those are the type of virus, the physiopathological mechanisms, the interaction between sociodemographic and cultural factors that are part of the epidemiological scenario. To avoid the spread of false medical information related to the pandemic, the need to verify the source is essential. It is also important to put in place preventive measures, like the use of masks and correct hand washing. But we must do this through reasoned teaching, not based on sanctioned mandatory measures. It is necessary to continue with preventive education, involving various population leaders (politicians, religious people, teachers, etc.), who can be an example and ease the teaching of these strategies.

The purpose of this essay is to show how the German novel The Magic Mountain (1924) by Thomas Mann captured, from different perspectives, the effects that isolation and diseases have on the human mind. The author wrote it in such a way that, even after the 100-year gap between tuberculosis and COVID-19, the argument’s relevance and the characters’ development through their actions and emotions are a reflection of the current archetype. Thus, we can notice a parallel between the aesthetic image of the havoc in the protagonist’s psyche and the emerging conclusions about mental health during this crisis, that have been growing thus far.
