This article analyzes judicial sources related to the repercussions on the Patagonian press of the territorial  conflicts between Arab traders and indigenous population in the late decade of 1950. The case under study  is the complaint that H. El Khazen, a bolichero, initiated to the editor of the newspaper La Chispa. El Khazen  complained slander and insults, based on journalistic denunciation against him for the eviction of indigenous  settlers in Cushamen. It is argued that while the Arab bolichero won the judicial instance, he failed to avoid  the reproach regarding the evictions. We conclude that the Court ruling had no impact on the social memory  and that the antecedent of the expropriating Turks of Cushamen was consolidated as an archetype. Finally,  it is argued that the case could have contributed to liquefying the responsibility of other actors, at the same  time that it could have favor linear readings of the spoliation processes.

This work presents a methodological reflection on the place of documentary sources from the diplomatic archives of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru in my studies on the relationship between the Latin American national centennials and the cultural construction of international relations. In the first part, I go through the process of elaborating my own research journey based on those sources and present the hypotheses of that work. Secondly, I illustrate with a specific case how diplomatic documents can be used from a cultural history perspective. The examination of a heterogeneous repertoire of symbolic actions in short spans of time allows to make the periodization more complex and to restore meanings overlooked by traditional diplomatic history. Finally, I raise some considerations on the methodological possibilities and limitations I faced in the analysis of diplomatic sources.

This paper aims to present and analyse the Boletín Informativo of the National Directorate of Physical  Education, Sport and Recreation, published between 1965 and 1977. This source has not been explored so far  and we understand that its knowledge will provide an entry point to different unstudied issues on the history  of physical education in Argentina. On this basis, we will seek to exhibit the aforementioned publication and  explore the lines of action it opens up for us. From the analysis of the material emerged the possibility that it  offers to investigate the circulation of actors, knowledge and practices between state agencies and different  spaces that made the configuration of physical education.

Drawing from a body of diplomatic sources produced in the context of postal and telegraphic negotiations between the late XIXth and early XXth centuries, this article reflects on the potential of such documents for a history of the great information expansion of that period. It argues that analyses based on infrastructures, technologies and business history need to integrate state “postal diplomacies” in the picture. Disseminated along many years, those practices between diplomacy and technical expertise reveal structural features of the system, including the place of Argentina in the global information network, and long-lasting policies to subsidize access to international contents. Finally, the essay assesses the role of international relations archival repositories in a social and cultural history of the circulation of printed goods.

Carlos Pastore was a prominent Paraguayan jurist, historian, and politician who confronted the authoritarian  governments of his country. He was exiled for more than thirty years in Montevideo (1942-1974). His activities  in the uruguayan capital were divided between militancy and historical research. The aim of this article is  to explore the potential of this intellectual archive –guarded by the Academia Paraguaya de la Historia– for  the study of the political and intellectual networks of the Rio de la Plata region, between 1940 and 1970,  through the implementation of the tools offered by the social networks analysis, and the use of personal  correspondence. Using data processing software, we explore the possibilities for the historical analysis of  Pastore’s “self-centered” networks.

This article describes and analyzes a group of documents gathered in the Archivo General de la Provincia de Entre Ríos under the label of Estadística de esclavos. In particular, it highlights the information these documents, little explored so far, offer to the study of slavery in the province during the abolitionist period. These documents are placed in relation to other sources of the period –provincial and national censuses, church records, laws and decrees, court records and notarial protocols–, opening new questions and drawing possible paths for the development of deeper research.

This article proposes an analysis of the emotions portrayed in the travel diary of a young Polish Jewish woman, who managed to escape from Europe through Japan, and finally landed in Tucumán (Argentina), around the middle of 1941. The aim is to proceed in this topic which is still unexplored by local historiography during this period. The article focuses on the impressions shaped during her migration from the use of metaphors of nature. These devices are used to narrate pain, lack of freedom, fear and sadness in a context distinguished by the development of World War II and the rise of Nazism.

This paper describes my experience with some Sections of the Archive of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship in an economic history research. This is an explanation about why and how I started to work with diplomatic documentation as a complement to trade statistics for the study of exports between the last decade of the 19th century and the end of the First World War. Likewise, it is, on the one hand, an example of the impact that the approach of this kind of sources has had on the specific results of my project and, on the other, a reflection on the possibilities that the use of non-traditional sources has on economic history researches.
