There are several methods of laboratory diagnosis of filarids, the most used are the thick smear and the Knott method. Both are quick to perform, have a low cost and allow observing the presence, quantifying and analyzing the morphological characteristics of microfilariae. Knowing the morphological viability of fixed microfilariae is of practical importance, as it allows the transport of samples to a laboratory, facilitates epidemiological studies , and allows the storage of samples for didactic. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological viability of microfilariae fixed in the refrigerated modified knott test using 2% formalin. To perform the modified Knott technique, 10 samples of microfilaremic dogs aged over 6 months were used. To evaluate the morphological viability time of the microfilariae in the modified Knott concentrate, the evaluations were repeated after intervals of 0, 1, 7, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240, and 304 days. In the present study, we did not verify any difference in the morphology of the microfilariae in any of the analyzed intervals from day 0 to 304 days, and it is possible to conclude that the use of 2% formalin in the modified Knott technique allows the microfilariae to be identified in a period of 304 days. days after processing the sample without changes in its morphology.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the susceptibility of R. microplus larvae from different oviposition times to fipronil. The LPT was performed in sextuplicate, at concentrations of 18.75, 37.5, 75, 150 and 300 μg.mL-1. The LC50 found for the egg masses incubated with +7, +14 and +21 days were respectively 105.87, 110.71 and 121.22 μg.mL-1. The larvae originating from egg masses from the same group of engorged females, incubated on different days, presented similar mortality rates compared to the evaluated fipronil concentrations, facilitating the maintenance of laboratory colonies of this tick species.

Breed traits seem to influence the dimensions of the cerebral ventricles in dogs. The ratios between the ventricles and the brain are crucial diagnostic criteria for suspected canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD). This study aimed to establish linear computed tomography (CT)-scan measurements of the cerebral ventricles in 55 Poodle dogs aged >7 years. To this end, cross-sectional CT images were evaluated. The measurements in the whole sample were: height of the right ventricle, 6.0 ± 1.6 mm; height of the left ventricle, 5.8 ± 1.6 mm; width of the right ventricle, 6.9 ± 1.4 mm; width of the left ventricle, 7.0 ± 1.3 mm; height of the third ventricle, 3.4 ± 0.8 mm; height of the right cerebral hemisphere, 39.5 ± 2.0 mm; and height of the left cerebral hemisphere, 40.2 ± 2.6 mm. The average ventricular measurements were higher in dogs older than 11 years (p < 0.05). However, the average ratio of the ventricle height to the height of the brain did not reveal differences between age groups, sex, or antimeres. In addition, none of the images showed fused lateral ventricles. Thus, these data can assist in interpreting ventricle size in senile Poodle dogs (aged >7 years).

Sporotrichosis is the most prevalent subcutaneous mycosis in Latin America and is an important zoonosis in expansion throughout all the brazilian territory. Domestic cats are highly susceptible to the disease and play an important role in the spread of the agent to both other animals and humans. Sporothrix brasiliensis, the predominant species in the country, has greater virulence and some isolates also showed resistance to azoles, the class of antifungals of choice for treatment. Because it is a long-duration treatment, of high cost, and oral use, sick animals are often abandoned, which contributes to the spread and permanence of the infection as an important public health problem. Therefore, new therapeutic alternatives or adjuncts to treatment with antifungals may contribute to combating this zoonotic agent. In this work we describe the result of the treatment with laser therapy of eight Sporothrix spp infected cats. Our findings show the efficacy of the laser treatment even in different clinical forms. This technique has the potential to decrease the time length and costs of conventional treatment as well as the improvement of the treatment results.

An 8-month-old neutered female domestic mixed breed cat was presented to Dr. L. Kriaučeliūnas Small Animal Clinic due to coughing that persisted for 2 weeks. Lateral and dorsoventral chest radiographs revealed an unusual dome-shaped soft tissue opacity mass that had contact with the cranial part of the diaphragm. Together with heart and abdominal ultrasound findings, we decided that one of the differential diagnoses was a diaphragmatic hernia. During the diagnostic celiotomy, a vertical 4 cm in length diaphragmatic deficit was visualized. Left medial and lateral liver lobes were herniated, yet healthy-looking. Adhesions between the liver lobes and the pericardium sac were visualized and dissected. The pericardium was sutured with simple interrupted suture pattern. A herniorrhaphy was performed suturing the diaphragm with the continuous suture pattern. Successful surgical treatment resulted in fully resolved clinical symptoms.

The canine transmissible venereal tumor is type of transmissible cancer that occurs naturally through allogenic cellular transplants. Commonly diagnosed in the genital area of sexually active dogs, the tumor typically responds well to vincristine sulfate chemotherapy, although there are cases of resistance to the drug correlated with the tumoral phenotype. We describe herein a case of fibrosis in an area affected by the tumor in a dog after vincristine chemotherapeutic treatment that was associated with an idiosyncratic reaction to the drug.

This article aims to identify the key aspects of the establishment of virtual education in the English language during the boom period of the pandemic. The methodology used is qualitative with the use of an interview to a teacher of English and a teacher specialized in educational digital platforms. In addition, a survey was used with 40 students of 10th grade of basic general education to determine if they really feel that their learning process has been relevant to the one hundred percent virtual education that was part of the guidelines issued in the pandemic by COVID-19. The results showed that both teachers and students are clear that virtual education did have shortcomings in the English language learning process, due to aspects such as the lack of personalized interaction between teacher and student, as well as other aspects that are evident was the lack of digital resources on the part of students or poor connectivity in their homes, which of course was also detrimental to the learning of English, since being a language and not a discipline requires the promotion of active strategies such as the use of MOOCs (massive online courses) to enter a virtual context of meaningful learning of English. It is concluded then that there were disadvantages in virtual education at the height of the pandemic, but also benefits such as time savings, as well as the streamlining of learning processes from the use of virtual education and its active methodologies.

The research approaches the oral traditions of the communities from their potential of application for the strengthening of reading and writing, added to the secondary benefit on the preservation and consolidation of their traditions. Therefore, the oral traditions of the Mayasquer indigenous reservation of Tallambí in the municipality of Cumbal are identified, together with the reading and writing performance of the students, subsequently an innovative pedagogical proposal is developed for the school classroom that integrates their oral traditions with the purpose of strengthening reading and writing in elementary school students of the Immaculate Conception Educational Institution; The research was carried out through a qualitative methodology, from hermeneutics, with the support of the research instruments: conceptual ordering, pedagogical social mapping and content analysis, with which the story "la moledora" was identified where cultural values are presented, additionally, regarding reading and writing skills in students were found levels below the course in which they are, along with poorly legible handwriting, among other factors evaluated (addition, substitution, slow reading, omission inversion and guessing). According to the information obtained, the pedagogical proposal "Recovering our ancestral knowledge for textual production" is formulated.

In Quevedo, the Guayacán parish is known for its commercial activity in the residential area, waste disposal does not include classification at the source, and the municipal temporary collectors located in each sector are not sufficient for the existing inhabitants. Evaluating the environmental education plan, according to the level of knowledge, attitudes, practices, moral obligations and government policies, is the objective of the research. 352 inhabitants were surveyed by means of a questionnaire with two sections of questions: demographic information and household waste management. The environmental education plan that fosters an environmental attitude, ecological awareness and environmental sensitivity was implemented in 53 volunteer households, with house-to-house visits. The per capita generation of 0.85kg/inhab*day and 64.35% of the generation corresponds to organic waste according to the characterization phase.

The present research work on reading skills for story writing aims to enhance language skills through the didactic guide to strengthen the weaknesses in writing and reading comprehension evidenced in the students of 2nd year of General Unified High School of the Educational Unit PCEI Eugenio Espejo period 2022- 2023 through qualitative-quantitative research. This work seeks that teachers implement interactive and practical workshops so that students are able to strengthen their linguistic competencies based on: inferential, argumentative and propositional when developing creative stories, where they can be performed in person or virtually (through the QR code). It is essential to provide playful activities to activate their cognitive and meaningful learning where the priority is the progress of students with their abilities and thus develop their educational performance, creating reflective and analytical beings within society.
