This reflection takes a critical look at Education in the 21st century from the perspective of the effects of the changes of the century, technology and its relationship with slow-moving cultures exposed to constant change. It also analyzes the need to detect the causes of the later problem to take timely measures to avoid losing the impact of universities on society and its future. It deepens the view, questioning the function of the modern foundations in relation to the universities that they sponsor as they are to support them, to serve as advisers, and even as auditors, avoiding at all costs to drain the arcades of the institutions that are given to protect.

In the present article a reflection is made on the processes of improvement around the training of teachers in the Dominican Republic. It is based on a bibliographical review of authors that work on the pedagogical approach assumed by universities. It is a vision that encourages meditation on the practice itself and the development of new professional skills required by the 21st century teacher. In addition, it describes the challenges presented by teacher training institutions to the imminent demand of society.

To inquire into the lives and legacies of three men, exemplary citizens, recognized by their Alma Mater with the highest awards of honorary teachers; is an everlasting lesson for current and future students of the University. To learn from them, to recognize them by their individual notion of success, by their concern for others and by the just sense of their leadership; means, to gather an important part of the legacy that UNPHU has built, for little more than half a century. It is also, to understand the role that academic professionals are called to play in the future of Dominican society.

Architecture is the compendium of the human and the architect is a humanist of formation, and that humanism survives in a global, technological and hyperspecialized world. In this work, reflections on the subject are made and some authors opinions are reviewed in this regard. Without an humanistic and integral vision the architect would see diminished his contributions to the society.

In the context of an increasingly globalized world, which affects in particular the Latin American cities and is oriented, among other things, to homogenize consumption practices, heritage (material and inmaterial) assets are transformed into merchandise that adds value to the cities. They must respond to the demand by the interest they arouse for international tourism and for the survival of some local economies. The actions that are taken from the governmental instances for the management of the patrimony tend to see their values from an instrumentalist perspective that in the majority of the cases does not consider the true necessities of the population that inhabits these places, generating gentrification processes or taking actions where there is a tendency to petrify the practices and to impose simulations aimed at satisfying the expectations of tourists eager to consume "culture". Valuation, therefore, requires broader visions where there is a holistic approach to the territory. In this sense, the notion of landscape contributes to this purpose. Without excluding other types of assessment, the understanding of a heritage site from that notion of landscape allows us to approach the problem from different aspects and achieve a better recognition for planning in order to be able to take more relevant actions in the management of these places.

This fragment from Pedro Manuel González Reinoso’s representation of his performance of the Russian woman, Roxy Roja, highlights what Cubans would regularly tell me over the years, albeit in a much more bombastic fashion, exceeding the kind of mimicry that we have come to expect of good postcolonial subjects. There was something missing from the Soviet brand of modernity that was exported to Cubans, something that they may have associated with a «glow», a lightness, or a grace, or another quality. While the Soviets’ largesse with Cubans is less debatable when it comes to the superpower’s economic subventions on the island over three decades, moments of gratitude for them tend to be entwined with ridicule for the position of Cubans vis-à-vis the Soviet’s «distorted modernity». Despite –or perhaps– on account of the overarching narrative of Soviet progress and modernity that was cultivated by the Soviet and Cuba governments, among everyday Cubans, products and people from de Soviet Union had the reputation of being Clumsy and unrefined.

This essay is an analysis of two video productions by Puerto Rican writer Eduardo Lalo (1960),Donde and La ciudad perdida and how they represent the global city or global cities of the PuertoRican archipelago. If in Donde there is an autobiographical element, where we look at the impossibilitiesof return, in La ciudad perdida Lalo honors the diverse cityscapes of San Juan. Videometrajea term coined by Lalo reveals a complex way of looking. In both productions, the writer’s exile, the "insilio" (internal exile) join together with the ruins of the global present to write in a creativefashion, diverse and intimate geographies of the cityscape.

The cultural, social and political history of a place draws the evolution of the territories, the development of the communities and the transformations of the landscape. But behind these stories are hidden the journeys of many people who for various reasons have had to abandon their homes, their cities to reach far away lands. These are testimonies of abandonment, of ruins, of lacerated communities forced to continue to write their history elsewhere. In a world of great revolution these are important reflections which must reflect both the policy and the architecture in order to seek solutions for the wellbeing and development of the communities. This paper intends to analyze an Italian situation that in recent decades has strongly transformed the local economies, the life of the communities and the history of the territories and to propose some reflections on possible management plans for people affected by abandonment.

Humanity has stored significant inventions that rarely impact the general public. The present paper explores how the implementation of academic findings excel theoretical fields, and how knowledge transfer is significant for its application. The paper conceptualizes on innovation through discussing fields usually ignored in architectural schools (cosmic, cognitive, energetic, molecular and economic) and includes the importance of recovery and revitalization of latent inventions. As a result, the paper proposes the implementation of discoveries through the process of displacing, amplifying and validating the results that could lead to new academic and professional trends, and finally reboot the whole profession.

The literary canon is almost always biased by extraliterary criteria, often internal, when theinterest struggles of personalities and groups affects the justice of its configuration; others, external, when political power establishes barriers and censorship using art and literature as self-promotionstrategies. But there are also “strange“ writers, who escape these circumstances by differentiatingthemselves from currents, fashions and groups through their particular sense of creation, determinedby their experiences, sensitivity and cultural heritage. This is all this work about, which seeks todraw a differentiating map of Cuban literature of the late s.XX and beginnings of the XXI, doingjusrtice precisely to the silenced by the interest groups and the political power.
