Resumen
Reflections on “Les problémes de l’espéce dans le Régne animal” directed by Charles Bocquet, Jean Génermont and Maxime Lamotte.
It is a pleasure to comment a very nice French publication on the species problem in the animal Kingdom. Two volumes appeared and a third is heralded. The contain seventeen papers, each on a different group. Most are excellent an none is bad. The main conclusion are: the frequence of cryptic species, the difficulties of application of the biological species concept between allopatric populations, the probability of quite an array of speciation mechanisms, although the allopatric model of Mayr still apppears to be by far the most common. As a corollary, it can be seen that the biological species concept is indeed non-operational as claimed by Sikal and Crovello (1970). However, it does no matter. Systematists are not free to disregard the reality, pretexting its forbidding complexity. So much the worse for them, buy they have to face the challenge.

Resumen
Some decades ago, Schistocerca cancellata paranensis (Burm.) showed all its phases apparently well defined. Nowadays, it does not attain the gregarious phase, probably because of the strict control of its populations; according to the prevailing conditions, it is found only as solitary or congregans. Five years of observations in the field and some tests and succesive rearing in laboratory permit the previous statement, and give data on the bionomics of the species.

The species of parasitoid hymenopterous reared from the pest are: the braconids Agathis haywardi De Santis, 1963 and Chelonus (Microchelonus) sp. and the chalcidoids Spilochalcis saltensis De Santis, 1963, Zatropis golbachi De Santis, new species and Arachnophaga sp.
The types of the new species and all the documentary material are deposited in Museo de La Plata and Fundación Miguel Lillo.

Resumen
Meiotic chromosomes of 20 males ot Scutobruchus cassiovorus and 20 males of Merobruchus bicoloripes were investigated in order to determine their chromosomal constitution. The karyotypes found were: 2n = 18, n = 8Xyp for Scutobruchus cessiovorus and 2n = 24, n = 11Xyp, for Merobruchus bicoloripes. The numerical and structural differences between them and other species of Bruchinae are analyzed.
