Traditional cheeses are associated with their place of origin and should have an identity of meaning for consumers. The aim of this research was to identify communalities of meanings in consumers of Zacazonapan cheese, Quesillo and Poro cheese. A survey was applied to 200 consumers of each cheese. In the survey, an image of the cheese was shown to the participants, and then they were asked to write three words associated with the image. The words produced were grouped by affinity, and a k-proportions test and the Marascuilo procedure were applied to their frequencies. The Quesillo (69.3%) and the Poro cheese (72.2%) presented greater symbolic psychological meanings than the Zacazonapan cheese (48.1%). Within these meanings, the communality for the meaning of identity was notable. The Quesillo and the Poro cheese were valued for their intangible aspects and were associated with their place of origin.

The antibacterial activity of propolis is related to the content of phenolic compounds and flavonoids; however, not all propolis present this property because of the absence or low amount of these compounds, but it can be increased with the addition of synthetic chalcones. Three chalcones were synthesized: 1,3-diphenylpropyl-2E-1-one (PLCR-1); and two hydroxyl-replaced analogues: 1-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-4-(2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)prop-2E-en-1-one (PLRC-2) and 1-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-4-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2E-en-1-one (PLRC-3) that were added in different proportions to two propolis, one from the State of Guanajuato (without flavonoids) and another from the State of Mexico (with flavonoids) aiming to evaluate antibacterial activity against reference strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, using the Kirby Bauer method. The results show that only PLCR-3 chalcone strengthened the antibacterial effect of both samples against S. aureus. The increase of the antibacterial activity of a propolis with the addition of synthetic chalcones is relative to the evaluated microorganism and the proportion used.

The design and validation of a questionnaire aimed at measuring the acceptance of pair programming and the benefits perceived by students who use it in the university educational context are presented. The process included the discovery of these two latent factors through exploratory factor analysis and their ratification through confirmatory factor analysis. It was possible to obtain adequate model fit values of the model (CMIN/DF = 1.15, CFI = 0.98, SRMR = 0.08, RMSEA = 0.06, PClose = 0.39), internal consistency (Acceptance: CR = 0.82; Benefits: CR = 0.73), convergent validity (Acceptance: CR = 0.82, AVE = 0.61; Benefits: CR = 0.73, AVE = 0.48), and discriminant validity (HTMT = 0.72). For future work, what remains is the administration of the final version of the questionnaire presented here.

The objective of the present investigation was to estimate the public’s willingness to pay for aged mezcal, handmade from Agave salmiana, cultivated, and originally from San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico. The contingent valuation method was used, and a survey was applied to 120 consumers. Through a binomial Logit model, it was found that the average Willingness to Pay (WTP) for mezcal was $576.82 pesos, which means an overprice of 37.34% with respect to the mezcal currently produced in the municipality. This represents an opportunity for producers to introduce a new kind of mezcal that allows them to increase their profit margins.

Drawing has been used as a tool for analyzing children's knowledge of their natural environment. The goal of this study was to analyze the knowledge of elementary school children about the faunistic diversity in three different communities of the Natural Protected Area Laguna de Terminos, using drawing as an exploratory tool. Drawings were analyzed with the content analysis technique, grouping the graphic elements into five categories: animals, terrestrial, aquatic, aerial and anthropic elements. A total of 101 drawings were analyzed, identifying 648 animals of 83 species: 35 mammals, 18 birds, 13 reptiles, 11 fish, four invertebrates, and two amphibians. Most of the elements were represented in jungle and river environments (> 90%). Species with which environmental education activities were carried out, such as crocodiles, manatees, and turtles, were the most represented in the drawings. As a conclusion, it was found that there was a relationship and broad knowledge of children towards the ecosystem.

The performance of a three-story laboratory building was analyzed to reduce its annual energy consumption. The analysis was performed through a whole-building simulation approach and dynamic simulations to calculate the potential reduction of heating and cooling energy requirements by evaluating various construction systems. The main objective was to accomplish a decrease in energy consumption without the implementation of sophisticated constructive systems, which are commonly unavailable or unfeasible to apply in developing countries. Therefore, a two-stage analysis was carried out. At the first stage, a set of commonly available construction materials were implemented. From this analysis, it was shown that the use of an insulated concrete wall, double tinted glass, and an insulated terracotta roof corresponds to the optimal combination of materials, resulting in a decrease of 36% on the total annual energy requirements. Finally, from the second stage analysis, where double-wall systems and a green façade were implemented, an additional energy saving of up to 16% was achieved.

The generation of fire probability mapping is essential to achieve the objective 15 established in the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda. An explicit spatial model was developed to generate fire probability maps for the state of Guanajuato. Spatial information of the anthropic variables distance to roads, distance to urban areas, distance to agricultural land uses, and distance to forest edges as potential sources of ignition was entered in the Dinamica EGO program. The calibration time interval was 2004-2009. The weight of evidence method was used to establish the influence of these variables on the probability of fire occurrence. Finally, the resulting probabilities were compared with the fires that occurred in 2017 by means of the receiving operating characteristic (ROC) statistical test. An area under the ROC curve (AUC) value of 0.7 was obtained, which considers the map to be acceptable for predicting fires. Mapping of fire susceptibility contributes to the management of forests and biodiversity conservation.

The potential effects of climate change and land use change make it essential to assess the processes of erosion and sediment transport in current and future situations. However, evaluating these processes correctly is not easy, because there is no information for the calibration and validation of mathematical models. This research proposes a methodological alternative for the calibration of a sedimentological model in basins without information and for modeling these processes, including the effects of climate change and land use change. The results foresee an increase in runoff (up to 1 m3s-1) in the future as well as reductions in the transport of sediments (0.0003 m3s-1) and erosion (5%), compared to the current one in the Turbio river sub-basin.

This document shows an optimized model for trapezoidal combined footings resting on the ground that support a concentrated load and moments around of the X and Y axes in each column to obtain the minimum surface area in plan. The model presented in this document considers a pressure diagram that has a linear variation. The model normally used to obtain the area of the contact surface on the ground takes into account the proposed dimensions of the trapezoidal combined footing, and later the stresses are verified at the corners by the biaxial bending equation (t hese stresses must be greater than or equal to zero and lower than or equal to the available admissible load capacity of the ground). The results show that the proposed model can be used for obtaining the optimal area of trapezoidal and rectangular combined footings with one restricted side and two property lines of restricted opposite sides, as well as for triangular combined footings.

Every set of ideas can be understood, under semiotic assumptions, as a textual structure and as a cognitive model. The analysis of the cognitive models allows us to find some connotations which open access to most of the meaning of such set of ideas. In the present work, we will review the movie Arrival (2016), in which we will locate the participation of certain cognitive models and their respective fundamental notions. This procedure will allow us to approach deep levels of significance refering to various prevailing ideologies in Occidental culture that are close to the moment of production of the film. In a way, the ideological participation, somewhat veiled, complies with the basic assumptions of globalization and, therefore, the rules of the film market. We refer to the resolution of a world conflict based on western models.
