Resumen
Goa Cathedral former altarpiece, attributed to Garcia Fernandes and made around 1538, is one of the oldest western pictorial works in India. It is a work of great importance in the establishment of the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese but also for understanding the influence of Portuguese painting overseas. Goa Cathedral former altarpiece is revealed as a crucial study source of Garcia Fernandes' creative process. There is evidence in the vigorous underdrawing of these paintings, of the existence of different types of drawing, as well as abandoned iconographic themes, or formal alterations of compositions. The iconographic and stylistic study evidences north and south-European influences in the choice and representation of the themes around the Martírio de Santa Catarina. In the present study, this work is compared in the making of the underdrawing with other works attributed to Garcia Fernandes.

Resumen
This paper proposes the use of the DStretch image analysis tool applied to the study and formal analysis of eighteenth-century mural paintings in the San Agustín Church of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a World Heritage city in Spain. Thanks to the technification of digital documentation, it has been possible to recover virtually this pictorial group that currently is almost completely lost due to a fire occurred in 1964. A work methodology that aims to achieve a reliable and rigorous recreation is proposed, supported by free software DStretch. This tool, which is conceived for research on rock art, is based on decorrelation processes, used in digital image treatment, which improve the readability of an image. The method offers an interesting applicability to the study of the historical mural painting analyzed and enhance the objectivity of its virtual reintegration.

Resumen
The present work shows the outcomes from a first experimental analysis that aimed to find a support fabric with the functional features of Tetex TR (a polyester fabric), which, currently, is no longer produced. The study is divided in different stages: on the one hand, four different fabrics were selected and tested by a visual exam under a microscope in order to determine their main structural features; on the other hand, several mock-ups were prepared to compare and evaluate the mechanical behavior, chemical stability and reversibility of the fabrics, before and after an artificial ageing process. The results show the possibility of replacing Tetex TR some of the tested fabrics for local interventions on textile support, introducing new accessible and affordable materials into the field of canvas painting restoration.

Resumen
The ability to digitally remove the varnish layer during the pre-conservation diagnostic of a painting, without any chemical or physical intervention, could be an advantage because it enables the prediction of the outcome of the cleaning procedure of the protective layer and contributes to the treatment proposal. Two paintings from Adriano de Sousa Lopes were investigated by hyperspectral imaging in the visible range, before and after the varnish layer removal. The spectral reflectance was estimated in each case and its comparison used to assess the effect of the varnish layer removal. The simulated paintings with the old varnish layer were compared with those restored, with no varnish, by comparing the chromaticity coordinates and other chromatic descriptors. It was found that considering the effect of the varnish layer of each painting individually produces lower errors than considering the average of the varnish layer across paintings. It was also found that simulating the varnish layer removal without knowing the varnish transmittance produces limited results and that the errors are smaller if the chromatic content is assessed without considering lightness.

Resumen
Grisaille is one of the oldest and most widely used vitreous paint applied for the production of stained-glass panels and Debitus is one of the most renowned commercial brands whose grisailles are frequently used for the chromatic reintegration in stained-glass window restoration. This article presents the morphological, chemical and thermal analyses of five grisailles from Debitus, to evaluate their properties before and after firing with the objective of knowing their future stability. The characterisation was carried out by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, particle induced X-ray emission, X-ray diffraction, and infrared thermography. This study showed a well-balanced ratio between the different components and a good interdiffusion into the glass, as well as a consistent thermal behaviour between them and with the glass, which indicates the good stability and durability of these materials.

Resumen
The present article has two objectives: the first one is to present the collection of medals of the extinct Research and Studies Section Volte Face – Medalha Contemporânea, of the Research Unit of the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, CIEBA, constituted by medals of various sizes, formats and materials (organic, inorganic and synthetic), whose characteristics influence the way they degrade and how they are conditioned; the second objective is to present the packaging proposals for the packing of the medals, for which we used 3D modelling, vector drawing and 3D printing. In the first case, we present the inventory of objects, their documentation, identification of constituent materials and degradation factors. For the second case, criteria were defined for the selection of the packaging format and for the choice of construction materials. The alveolar polypropylene for the box and the low-density polyethylene were selected for the filler material.

Resumen
On the 27, 28 and 29 September 2018 the II Colloquium "Investigations in Heritage Conservation" took place. It resulted from the partnership between the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon) and the Museu da Farmácia (Pharmacy Museum). It was also an initiative of a group of researchers from the research units of CIEBA (FBAUL), CITAR (UCP/Escola das Artes), de Física (UM) and the Consórcio Heritas.Like the I Colloquium [1], held in September 2016, it was intended to disseminate, through a multidisciplinary environment and transversal to the various areas of heritage, the investigation in cultural heritage conservation performed at masters, doctoral and post-doctoral works, although the colloquium was extended to all professionals working with heritage conservation.

Resumen
The Instituto de Investigação Científica Tropical, University of Lisbon (IICT), Portugal, holds the most important scientific collections from Portuguese-speaking African countries, which include anthropological, archaeological, ethnographic, mineralogical, botanical and zoological collections, as well as libraries and historical archives. The aim of this paper is to document the advances in conservation and management of IICT collections between 2005 and 2015, namely how the implementation of institutional initiatives created new challenges for the scientific community. After an overview of the IICT's scientific heritage since the creation of the Cartography Commission in 1883, we characterise several recent actions aimed at preserving and providing access to the collections. Considerations on the current preservation of the IICT collections are presented. It is argued that these collections are unique for tropical science and of critical importance for scientific cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa.
