The visibility and recognition of Women playwrights in Spanish theater did not occur untilthe eighties after the conquests of feminist movements. For that reason, women playwrightsexplore in their works new ways of thinking about subjectivity. The monologue providesthem with a way of exploring themselves and with a form of engaged theater. This textualcorpus is studied in this article in a global way in order to contextualize feminist dramaturgies and in particular the dramatic proposals of Maribel Lázaro, who in 1986 wrotetwo monologues La fosa [The pit] and La defensa [The defense]. Therefore, we analyze theterminological problem around the concept of «monologue». Moreover, we reflect on thedramatic structure in which the denunciation, self-recognition and negation of the discourseof the female character coexist in a paradox that opens the path to a consolidation of thefeminist theater in Spain.

This paper aims to explore how two contemporary playwrights, Carolina África and MaríaVelasco, address Dulcinea’s character in a collective project called A siete pasos del Quijote. For this purpose, we will analyze their respective contributions, paying special attention tothe modern way in which Africa and Velasco deal with one of the most important subjectsin the Cervantes’s novel: the real world and the ideal world opposition through the dualitybetween Aldonza and Dulcinea. From an interdisciplinary approach, which includes otherartistic languages such as cinema and music, we also intend to establish a creative dialoguebetween the two playwrights and the inventor of the modern novel as well as other authors. At the same time, we will try to show some connections between the pieces studied in thispaper and the rest of both playwrights’ works.

We will analyze the counterpoint versions of motherhood and butch childhoods in thosenovels by Radclyffe Hall addressing “sexual inversion,” the lesbian bestseller The Well ofLoneliness (1928) and The Unlit Lamp (1924), which present significant differences regardingthe conditions of possibility and the misfortunes of a queer life. We will concern ourselveswith the representations of maternal abjection, in the light of the importance that Radclyffe assigns to this deeply disturbing erotic bond (whether aversion or attraction) for thedevelopment of butch childhoods. We will argue that a careful reading of the perversionsof this bond makes clear that Radclyffe’s perspective –for all of its morality, sexual shameand desire to be admitted within the privileges of heterosexuality– allows for a critique ofexclusivist, monogamous, and unconditional emotional pacts, as well as of the conceptionof happiness they give rise to.

This article seeks to propose the notion of revolt as a category of analysis to examine thefeminist movement that occurred in May 2018 in Chile. In this sense, from this notion,it will be asked how the colonial efficiency, inscribed in the hetero/racial and oppressivememory of Latin America, can be interrupted by a “feminist operation” evidencing theintersections between power, language, violence and domination. All this to try to showthat this has implied the norms in the institutions and that they have been applied at thelevel of the discourse, the representations and their practices in differents political/culturaland institutional spheres in Chile. To this end, the voices of Chilean women activists ofthe revolt will be taken to address the issue: how the revolt, as a feminist action to disruptthe patriarchal order, can lift up a practice of emancipation?

This study is based upon an undergraduate course taught at the School of Journalism at the Universidad de los Andes in Chile (2018). In order to write from scratch a story over the semester, the fifty students enrolled in the Creative Writing class developed collectively fiction novels. Although there were no previous prompts regarding the content, all the stories represented the family whether in a central or a secondary role. Relying on the nine novels produced, this article analyzes the family representations in the fictional stories of college students. Fictional audiovisual material appears as very influential in the corpus analyzed. After conducting a content analysis on the stories, the results show that all writings reinforce the role of the family as a desirable environment for the individuals’ well-being, regardless of the topic or frame of each novel.

This paper analyzes the use and appropriation of digital media by the Chilean social movement No + AFP. Specifically, the spotlight is placed on the movement’s digital video activism practices and its communication activity; organizational and collective action strategies mediated by new information and communication technologies. A qualitative (content analysis) methodology was developed to analyze the movement’s most relevant videos regarding three aspects: (1) political strategy; (2) actors, and (3) the locations in which videos were filmed. The main conclusion is that video activism was central to supporting the movement’s offline strategy. The videos were basically used for propaganda and informational purposes and became a challenge against hegemonic media production in Chile; the main actors were citizens opposing the corporate, the hegemonic media and the government; and the streets, the traditional protest setting, were the preferred location.
