In the last years of the nineteenth century we will attend the development of women's sports in our country. The women of the bourgeoisie and nobility will discover the different sports that, originally from the United Kingdom, now become fashionable. This necessitates the creation of appropriate clothing for the practice of these activities that reflect the new life of the active woman. If France becomes the champion of urban fashion in the nineteenth century, Britain will be the country where sportwear is created. The feminine clothing for the sport will have its origin in two garments that emerged around 1850; on the one hand the bloomer, pants designed by the American suffragists and that was used to practice cycling, an activity followed by a large number of women. On the other hand, the suit tailor or tailleur, born of the hand of the couturier Redfern; This garment will be the model that will serve as the basis for the clothing used by the ladies to exercise in sports such as horse riding, lawn tennis, golf or skating. Women's magazines will describe in detail these sports suits, accompanied, in addition, with figurines, which will serve as inspiration for tailors and dressmakers in charge of their manufacture.

The study of Rioja bicycling continues to be a ground of pioneers. In fact, there is a notable bibliographic absence, evidenced not only by the lack of studies on the history of bicycling, but by the low interest that researchers have given to the history of sport in La Rioja. This article aims to shed some light on this. Therefore, the evolution of bicycling in Rioja in the twentieth century is analyzed, taking into account the main factors and elements that made possible the progressive strengthening of this sport in Logroño; and the role played by mesocratic sports societies, the institutional support received and the support or rejection of specialized media towards this sports practice, through organizations such as Unión Velocipédica Riojana, Deportiva de Logroño or Logroño Recreation Club are studied.

The history of the most universal international sporting event, the Olympic Games, reflects faithfully the development of women in competition sports. The motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius” was set up to represent the ideal man in sport, traditionally, since ancient times women could not fit in this image. In spite of that, since the very beginning, women tried to open a way to not to be excluded from the modern Olympic movement.Women athlete pioneers have appeared during the 20th century all over the world, but this paper concentrates on the development of women’s sport in Hungary. Although sport was started to be organized in Hungary later than in the West-European countries, the importance of female sport was growing continuously, with an acceleration in the last decades of the 20th century. The statistics about participation and successes of Hungarian female athletes in the Olympic Games prove the value of women in sport, and the precedents of some outstanding personalities stain history.

The main focus of this essay is the study of the image of the mirror in the works of religious women from the 13th and 14th centuries (Mechthild von Magdeburg, Hadewijch van Brabant and Marguerite Porete), especially regarding the Platonic tradition which links this image with the soul. I will examine fragments of their literary work in order to discuss some physiological, anthropological and theological preconceptions implied in the use of the mirror-image, especially those developments concerning self-knowledge and deification (theosis). Additionally, I analyze the relationships between the mirror and the “mystique courtoise”, particularly with the theme of the Fountain of Narcissus.

This paper analyses all major appearances of the myth of Siegfried, from the earliest Anglo- Saxon texts, through the great narratives of the high Middle Ages, to its modern use by 19th century nationalism. The review allows not only to verify the logic of adaptation according to the intention of each of the texts, but also to make a history of the use of the legend which reveals, on the one hand, the ideological constant in the appropriation of the story and, on the other hand, how the legend of Siegfried is the last survivor of a type of heroic tale, that of the hero-king, which begins to be replaced in the the literature of the high Middle Ages.

This article goes through some of the coincidences between the classical literary tradition and the Galician-Portuguese lyric, which provide sometimes a new signification to the Greco-Roman mythical tradition. In this sense, certain classical myths are reworked from a moral perspective. Additionally, the resource to erotic topics from the Greco-Roman tradition in the Galician-Portuguese love lyric is exemplified, such as the love at first sight, the madness of love, the judgment loss, the evasive lover, irrisor amoris and servitium amoris.
