Background: the age-related macular degeneration is among the most common causes of harsh and irreversible visual loss in patient elders of 60 years in the industrialized world. Considering the increase of life expectancy and the rise in population of the senior citizens, the need of an early and opportune diagnosis, it is obvious for this disease that constitutes a health problem we have to solve. Objective: to describe the results of the cicatrization with the use of the bevacizumab in the age-related humid macular degeneration. Methods: a descriptive, longitudinal study in patients with the diagnosis of age-related humid macular degeneration was carried out. 25 patients that attended the retinal consultation in the period October, 2018 to April, 2019 and who fulfilled the criteria constituted the population of selection. They were applied an opinion poll and they studied variables were: Age, sex, pathological personal background, number of intravitreous injections placed to each patient, complications after injection and cicatrization of the macular injury. B Results: according to the age groups and the sex, it was shown that the age between 60 and 69, ten patients and the feminine sex 15 patients were the most frequent. The ocular hypertension was the complication that predominated with four patients. The greatest amount of eyes healed with the administration of one and two doses of the medication. Conclusions: the age group from 60 to 69 years and the feminine sex predominated. The ocular hypertension was the most frequent complication. It was verified high blood pressure as the most frequent pathological antecedent. The cicatrization of the eyes happened with the administration between one and two doses. Background: ventilator associated pneumonia represents one of the major problems in the intensive care unit due to the fact that it aggravates the patient's clinical condition, prolongs hospital stay and increases the cost of hospitalization. As infection is preventable and healthcare related, its control is mainly attributed to the nursing staff. Objective: to evaluate the knowledge and nursing practice involved in the methods of prevention of hospital acquired pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation. Methods: a quantitative, cross-sectional study was employed from June 1st until August 31st, 2018. A structured, observational guide and a questionnaire was applied to the population composed of 22 nursing personnel in the intensive care unit. Results: of the evaluated nurses, it was found out that they possess knowledge of both theory and practice, particularly, regarding the use of protective barriers, correct position for endotracheal aspiration and as well as the number of times the procedure should be applied. Conclusions: adequate knowledge about theory and practice exists among nurses who attended mechanically ventilated patients in critical condition. Moreover, the quantity of nursing work experience does not affect the quality of care given to the patients. Background: neuroleptics with an antipsychotic effect are effective in controlling the symptoms of schizophrenia, delusions and hallucinations. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is the most serious adverse effect caused by antipsychotics. Objective: to present an unusual case of a patient with a diagnosis of psychotic symptoms who presented a neuroleptic malignant syndrome caused by antipsychotics. Case report: a patient who listens to voices inside his head is admitted and the doctor notes that he was hyperconcentrated and performed stereotyped movements with difficulties in wandering. At the 7th day of hospitalization he begins with generalized rigidity, tremor, language disorders and dysphagia that is interpreted as an extrapyramidal syndrome of drug cause, with increased creatinine phosphokinase (CK) levels. Bromocriptine 2.5 mg every 12 hours is used, in addition to vigorous hydration, prophylactic anticoagulation with low molecular weight heparin and periodic assessment of respiratory and renal function. Conclusions: the malignant neurological syndrome corresponds to an idiosyncratic reaction, produced by any dopamine receptor blocker drug classically associated with high potency antipsychotic drugs such as haloperidol and fluphenazine, as observed in the case presented in the article, so it was necessary to identify the prodromal signs early and make the therapeutic changes in a timely manner in order to prevent the serious condition and restore the health of the patient with minimal risk. Background: genital infection caused by human papillomavirus is a common sexually transmitted infection, which affects millions of people around the world. Objective: to determine the behavior of human papillomavirus of genital location in adolescents and young women under 25 years. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in girls under 25 years of age attended in the neck pathology clinic of the Nuevitas Polyclinic in the period from January to December 2016; with a universe of 93 patients that with confirmed diagnosis of human papillomavirus in organic cytology. Results: the greatest number of patients with human papillomavirus presented intraepithelial lesions, with a high degree of predominance. More than half of the injuries corresponded to the group of young people between 20 and 24 years old. Relationship of the presence of the virus with several risk factors was observed, almost all had their first sexual intercourse early. Around the third part of them had multiple sexual relations, three to five sexual partners prevailed, cervical ectopia was relevant, as gynecological history, leukorrhea was observed as the most frequent symptom. Conclusions: there is a close relationship between adolescents with risks and presence of human papillomavirus, the presence of this virus is a predisposing factor for cervical intraepithelial lesions. Background: several researches worldwide have shown that pregnancy influences the course and appearance of the mental disorder. In Cuba, however, published studies are scarce. Objective: to determine the prevalence of mental disorder in pregnant women. Methods: a study was carried out from the quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. The universe consisted of 14 386 pregnant women admitted to the maternity service of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin hospital from May, 2018 to October, 2019. 265 were selected through a non-probabilistic sampling. The semi-structured interview and observation were used for the evaluation. The variable was mental disorder. The results were processed in the EPIDAT 3.1 statistical package, with prevalence rates and absolute and relative frequencies. Results: a prevalence of 35.1 % (95 % CI: 29.1-41.0) of psychopathological antecedents was evidenced in the pregnant women studied. The suicidal attempt, the attention for the specialty of Psychiatry in some occasion of their lives and the personality disorder predominated. The estimated prevalence of mental disorder during hospitalization was 1.8 % (95 % CI: 1.6-2.1). Anxiety and sadness were highlighted as emotional disturbance, the disorder of adaptation with anxiety, and with depressed mood. Conclusions: the prevalence rate of psychopathological antecedents in the studied pregnancies was relatively high. In contrast, the estimate of the prevalence of mental disorder during hospitalization was considered low. However, a relatively high prevalence of anxiety was evident.

The Semi-Implicit Particle Movement (MPS) method, which is one of the most representative models of the Lagrangian models used in fluid simulation, is described in this work. Moreover, advantages and disadvantages of the MPS method are described: from the version based on the particle number density, the velocity divergence and the weakly compressible versions. Furthermore, to demonstrate the method capabilities, these versions are compared on the basis of the classical two dimensional dam-breaking problem. From these results, the differences on the pressure field distribution on several time steps and the pressure time histories on the wall impact zone are analyzed.
