The article initially addresses death as the theme of clown shows performed by the author and clown in her doctoral research, within a perspective intertwined with Nietzsche's tragic thought in the affirmation of life. Faced with the worsening of the health and social crisis that erupted in the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the confrontation of death through comic and clown poetics comes to be considered from new angles and questions by the author, in view of the of the ostentatious and dominant necropolitics (Mbembe, 2016) of the far-right government in the presidency of Brazil in the period. From this context, some questions are posed about artistic creation, such us how to face what kills (us), saddens and oppresses (us), through play and creation of humor in clown art in favor of life.

In the context of clowning acting, which historically is related to the customs and actions of each society, we propose, in this article, the following question: are we all clowns? In order to investigate this issue, we combine the analysis of Marilena Chauí (2021) about Brazilian society to our experiences with networks of women clowns, with researches, artistic performances and formative processes related to the context of clowning acting. Faced with the impossibility of identifying an affirmative answer to the question raised at the beginning of this paper, we observe that the bibliographical research recorded here is carried out by a specific scientific field of women as clowns. Besides, we demonstrate that these women are responsible for building an important, expressive and growing area of contemporary knowledge about clowning.

This article aims to present the circus manifestations in Basic Education in Brazil. The study adopted the exploratory research of multiple bibliographic and multimedia sources, analysed through Interpretive Analysis. The results shows much circus manifestations occur in Basic Education, carried out by artists, teacher s and art-educators. The results pointed out that professional artistic presentations; courses, workshops, conferences and others; Tours-Lessons; extracurricular projects and complementary activities do not constitute school knowledge because they are not articulate with the curriculum. However, pluri, inter and transdisciplinary projects, the curricular disciplines of the Circus, and teaching as a theme, content and didactic resource in the subjects make the Circus a school knowledge subject to the devices of the school institution and organization. Thus, this study seeks to value the diversity of actions, projects, activities, and people who seek to bring the Circus, its art and wisdom closer to Basic Education.

This article aims to share reflections on the buffoons’ place in society, based on the meaning of the term. In addition, it discusses ethical issues in buffa performance. Supported by authors and artists such as Beth Lopes, Henry Bergson, José Tonezzi, Leo Bassi, among others, this text rubs many layers of mocking laughter, linking it to the social and historical recognition of these figures in order to introduce a problematization about the techniques developed by the French pedagogues Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier, focusing on their implications over creative processes.

The opening of circus schools in Brazil favored a range for learning circus knowledge and sheltered an interdisciplinary dimension of these practices, presenting itself as a proposal for the formation of new circus artists. To expand this dialogue, this article aims to reflect on the formation of the circus in Brazil and the pedagogical developments developed by Amercy Marrocos and Delisier Rethy, who worked as teachers in Brazilian circus schools, demonstrating that it was possible to train people born “off the canvas”. These masters turned upside down many values deposited to the presence of women in the circus universe and built narratives based on female references in the formation and pedagogy of circus knowledge, expanding the influence of circus arts in the Brazilian scene.

João Roberto Faria's study encompasses all the dramaturgy born in the 19th century in Brazil, thematizing the presence of black people in the limelight, as well as their critical reception through the press of the period. They are addressed from the first mentions, through extras without speaking, to their major protagonists, already in the period close to the abolition. The analysis also contemplates the role and function of pro-abolition associations and benefit shows intended for manumission, amateur theater, the participation of artists and theater companies in the movement.
