Resumen
This paper aims to analyze actions to control yellow fever in Bahia, especially during the 1926 outbreaks, that contributed to question the effectiveness of the theory of “focos-chave”, up held by the Rockefeller Foundation. Members of the international philantropic agency and doctors of the bahia acted to try to find the spreading center of the epidemic. The sources used are reports, correspondence, and photographs collected at the Rockefeller Archive Center, a report from the Yellow Fever Rural Prophylaxis Service, articles written by doctors in specialized journals and news published in newspapers of the time. Epidemiological and clinical investigations were established as the disease proliferated along the railway line that ran across the state.
Keywords: Yellow Fever. Focos-Chave Theory. International Health.

Resumen
Abstract: This article aims to understand the way social markers of gender, race and class differences act in the construction of femininities among cross-dressers who starred artistic performances in what once was the most traditional gay club in the capital of Ceará. It also reflects on how these artists’ masculinities are crossed over in their temporary body reconstructions. The ethnographic and anthropological research focused on the last three years of the club. In addition, news from newspapers during its active years were accessed, as well as the personal collection of the nightclub’s cross-dressers and producers. In this sense, it was observed that these body transformation processes highlight in a contumacious manner the constructiveness of genders, in order to destabilize the binary perspectives that view femininity and masculinity in a fixed and expressly natural way.
Keywords: Cross-dressers. Makeover. Femininities.

Resumen
This article aims to analyze the unfolding of Recife in the 19th century, through the precision of implementing urban improvements involving the apparatuses of current technologies and hygiene measures, in order to meet the needs of an urban area that was intended by the population density. Besides that, we aim to evaluate certain observations issued by foreigners and city dwellers regarding the impressions of the urban space and the interaction with the population. Likewise, we consider aspects that led, at a certain moment, to a closer relationship between part of society and the government, motivated by the idea of progress.
Keywords: Urbe. Urban space. Progress. Sanitation.

Resumen
In 19th century Brazil, and more prominently in Rio de Janeiro, doctors and medical students produced a series of works that aimed to disseminate academic knowledge about diseases, treatments, nutrition and child hygiene. According to these writings, a national medical science was under construction, concerned with moralizing daily practices that concerned families: childbirth, hygiene, food, cleaning of private environments, among others. Based on a broader movement of primacy of fragile beings in Portuguese medicine in the 18th century, and later in Brazil, a proposal of this article is to map which understandings were conveyed about child treatment in the first fifty years of the Faculty of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro, with emphasis on two aspects that were widely disseminated in the medical theses of the period: prevention and medication.
Keywords: Medicine. Children. Health. Prevention. Medication.
