This article aims to analyze the images produced for Brasília magazine, one of the main divulgation media for the building of the country's new capital. In the midst of an intense context of criticism of the great constructions of the period, Brasília displayed an official, positive and modern look on that region. Produced by the main photojournalists of the time, the photographs bring perspectives that are characteristic of the JK years’ neobandeirismo movement. In those photographs, the urban-industrial pattern had become a sign of development, as opposed to the idea of delay, which was associated to a sertão idealized by the political agents of the time. An approach on textbooks used in the History of Maranhão subject in Basic Education aiming to analyze the meanings built for the contents conveyed. To this end, we were based on the principles of the New Sociology of Education through the History of School Subjects by Ivor Goodson and André Chervel. This is a qualitative documentary study, with a dialectical approach method and comparative procedure method. By problematizing the textbooks, the transmutations of the History of Maranhão discipline are evidenced. Keywords: History Teaching. History of Maranhão. Textbooks.

No presente texto, analisam-se as discussões veiculadas no primeiro periódico médico paranaense, a Gazeta Médica do Paraná, no seu curto período de duração, entre 1901 e 1904. O objetivo do trabalho é entender como os médicos paranaenses ligados ao periódico interpretavam a ciência e a medicina do período, considerando a especificidade do lugar que ocupavam na produção do conhecimento médico-científico brasileiro, ao mesmo tempo em que compreendiam o periódico como ferramenta importante para a defesa de seus interesses socioprofissionais.  Faz-se uma discussão sobre a especificidade da medicina e da ciência em perspectiva regional, refletindo sobre o debate centro-periferia, buscando demonstrar como a medicina longe dos grandes centros se apropriava ou não daquilo que circulava, nem sempre permanecendo alheia a esse conhecimento, tampouco o incorporando totalmente. La Irmandade da Misericórdia fue fundada en São Luís alrededor de 1623. En 1642, la Irmandade ya había construido una iglesia y un cementerio, y en 1653 ya habían proyectos para la construcción de un hospital. En el siglo XIX, dirigía un cementerio, el Hospital de Caridade y de Lázaros, además de la Roda y la Casa dos Expostos. En vista de tal aumento en el poder y la importancia de la asistencia practicada por los congregantes en la Irmandade da Misericórdia, analizaremos cómo el tratamiento dado a los pacientes en el Hospital de Caridade se estaba convirtiendo cada vez más en una "gran carga" para la Misericórdia, puesto que, desde la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, las quejas son recurrentes sobre la dificultad de cuidar a los enfermos debido a la intensificación de las crisis financieras. Como el siglo XIX, en São Luís, estuvo marcado por las diversas epidemias que plagaron las aglomeraciones urbanas, también estudiaremos la asistencia en el contexto de brotes epidémicos y las transformaciones que tales epidemias han traído al Hospital de Caridade. This article analyzes how the health services of the first establishments implanted in Piauí dealt with childcare during the First Republic. Even though childhood protection ideas consider the potential of health initiatives as an investment factor for progress and civilization, there was no state project or federal health system that integrated the state of Piauí. For this analysis, we used government messages, legislation, newspapers and medical journals as sources, in addition to authors such as Ana Paula Martins (2004), Colin Heywood (2004) and Gilberto Hochman (1998). We identified the installation of few institutions in Piauí, such as police stations and public health posts, in addition to philanthropic hospitals. As a result, the condition of limiting the supply of health services, more concentrated and regular in the capital, ended up contributing to the absence of specialized protection in the care of children from Piauí. Neste artigo, analisamos as semanas ruralistas como projeto de extensão rural desenvolvido no Brasil no século XX. Esses eventos ocorreram em diversos pontos do país e tinham como objetivo discutir aspectos relativos à condição de vida das populações rurais brasileiras. As primeiras semanas foram realizadas nos anos 1930 e foram promovidas por organizações privadas. Não obstante, entre 1940 e 1950, outras organizações passaram a promovê-las. Foi com a colaboração da Igreja, a partir dos anos 1950, que a realização desses eventos aumentou exponencialmente. Por meio de periódicos nacionais, relatórios do Serviço de Informação Agrícola (SIA) e revisão bibliográfica, verificamos como ocorreu o processo de consolidação das semanas no país, dando ênfase à cooperação da Igreja. As paróquias católicas foram utilizadas pelo Estado em seu projeto de modernizar e integrar as áreas rurais brasileiras, e se tornaram espaços de fomento de conhecimento técnico e científico em agricultura e saúde. At the beginning of the 20th century, expositions were seen as key tools for national modernization, as well as for identifying the country's natural resources in order to point out their potential uses. Thus, the political, economic and intellectual elites from Piauí started to support the state’s attendance to the event, moved by the belief that the exhibition would bring countless benefits to the region, such as investments from the international capital and the improvement of its industries. In this paper, we describe and analyze the role played by Piauí in the Brazilian National Exposition of 1908, which celebrated the first centenary of the opening of the ports to allied nations. Based on local newspapers, catalogs, and official messages, we argue that the fair represented a key moment for promoting the economic potential of the state which, since the second half of the 19th century, saw itself at the border of progress and claimed for more attention from the federal authorities. This article seeks to dialogue with the current historiography that deals with assistance, having as main scope the conceptualization of poverty through a case study of the Public Assistance Service in Rio Grande do Sul during the first decades of the twentieth century, especially in the city of Santa Maria/RS. The sources analyzed refer to publications of the time, whose objective was to explain how assistance should be practiced in the state and in the municipality. Keywords: Poor relief. Poverty.
