In the XXI century, the university professor has become a mediating agent between the student and knowledge; in addition, the personal and professional skills of university professors are actively involved in student learning. The purpose of the research was to know the relation between the emotional intelligence of university professors (Bar-On model) and the academic satisfaction of university students, seen as part of the psychological well-being (eudaimonic position). The research was correlational and transversal, emotional intelligence was assessed to 87 professors and information on academic satisfaction was collected in 597 students. The results indicated that the study variables correlate positively (.80), being the interpersonal component to have the highest correlation coefficient with the academic satisfaction. Further-more, it was observed that 91% of professors obtained average and high levels of emotional intelligence; women professors obtained higher scores than men professors, but the differences were not significant. Additionally, professors over 45 years of age showed greater development of emotional skills and greater academic satisfaction from the students.

The Higher Education Institutions (HEI) temporarily closed its headquarters in order to make a transition from a presence-based modality to an Emergency Remote Teaching due to COVID-19 pandemic. The article’s objective is to analyze the Ecuadorian case in the implementation of this modality, acknowledging it is not automatic rather it hampers the struggled context where the HEI have unsolved issues previous to the pandemic. This document focuses on a literature review and a historical approach on the transformation of Ecuador’s higher education policies by taking as a starting point the first evaluation of universities of 1988 in order to determine the prevailed challenges to implement the Emergency Remote Teaching, after twenty years. The paper develops as follows: (1) First, the article describes brief characteristics of the Emergency Remote Teaching; (2) Second, the paper problematizes the unsolved structural challenges; (3) Finally, the document raises the immediate challenges of HEI in the transition to an Emergency Remote Teaching. At the end, this research concludes that the ability of HEI to adapt themselves to an Emergency Remote Teaching depends to what extent the unsolved structural challenges are sorted out.

The passage from face to face teaching to distance learning, as a measure to face the COVID-19, brought about the need for the validation of the tests’ results taken in electronic format. It is considered that students are more likely to commit fraud in tests conducted remotely. The objective of the article is to present the study of the academic cheating as a report to the analysis of the psychometric validity of the tests. Through a bibliographic review, the concept of academic cheating and its types are analyzed. The main methods to detect it are presented, which can be used to ensure the validity of the results in synchronous tests, multiple choice type. The uses, potentialities and limitations of the methods used are described. Finally, the main challenges to overcome to validate the synchronous test’ results carried out remotely are presented.

Despite the growing research on social networks sites (SNS), the associations between the abuse of these platforms, the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and Online Vulnerability has been understudied. The aim of this research was to provide a framework of attitudes and behaviors related to the use of the social network in young university students. In this study, the sample was composed to 306 Italian university students aged 18 to 30 (152 women; mean of age = 21.8; standard deviation = 3.19) who responded to an online survey regarding their SNS behaviors, Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), Basic Psychological Needs, Self-Esteem and Online Vulnerability. Correlations analysis showed a positive relationship between FOMO, Online Vulnerability, and Social Media Addiction. The results showed that women have a higher level of Social Media Addiction and the Need for Relatedness. The regression analysis showed that FOMO is the best predictor of Social Media Addiction. Implications of the findings in the educational field are discussed.

This paper introduces the results of an ongoing study, aimed at describing Academic Engagement and Grit standards in students attending postgraduate studies. To comply this a quantitative, descriptive and correlational study was applied to a convenience sample of 188 students who filled out the UWES-SS and the Grit Scale. The results showed that women scored better in the Academic Engagement dimensions and the Consistence of Interest factor in the Grit Scale. In addition, significant, positive correlations were found in both constructs. Conversely, no significant differences were found among postgraduate programs, nor among global Academic Engagement and global Grit by program or weekly study time. These findings showed the relevance of guiding students with specific strategies.

This article proposes to identify the attitude and habitual practices of Internet access among university students, in addition to knowing their degree of relationship with age, gender, semester, career and academic performance. For this, a qualitative and correlational research model will be used through a sociodemographic questionnaire and the scale Telephone, tool, territory, information treasure and toy (5T). 813 students from a public university in Mexico participated. The use of the Internet is massive among university students, there are specific differences in the type of content they access. Men, participants enrolled in the second semester and those who are 21 years old score higher when they use the Internet to play and as entertainment compared to their peers. There is no relationship between Internet uses, age and academic performance. The implications of the results found are discussed.
