Watching television and tweeting at the same time changes the nature of the media experience; thus, this quantitative research applies a frequency analysis and the seminality index to describe the evolution of this convergence between 2013 and 2017 in Chilean political shows. The comparison showed an increase in tweeting rates in second screening, while TV shows stopped managing their official accounts. This behavior shows a growing autonomy of both screens, consistent with Jenkins' convergency concept: making connections among dispersed media contents.

Several authors have noted the role of transnational religious networks in the formation and dissemination of new theological and pastoral approaches. Observing the processes of relationship building, exchange and discussion between members of the Mexican and Guatemalan Catholic Church, this paper analyzes the way in which the “indigenous problem” was conceived, and in relation with it, the definition of “Indian”, and how based on these conceptions the pastoral action was thought and discussed. These processes of relationship building and exchange took place in a setting shaped by the confluences and divergences among indigenousness, Indianism and liberation theology. This interlocution demonstrated that different, and even divergent, pastoral programs were outlined. The “indigenous conscience” was the epicenter and common frontier for these programs.

The objective of this article is to explore the emotional meaning and the cultural norms of emotional expression-suppression among the Mayas of the center of Quintana Roo, Mexico. We interviewed eleven bilingual adults (Mayan-Spanish) and conducted a discussion group with six of the participants. We also used participant observation and a field journal. Among the results, it is remarkable that the emotions are associated mainly with the Mayan term óol. The rules of expression-suppression emphasize moderation and emotional balance. For example, ki’imak óol (joy) was conceived in terms of tranquility. While the yaj óol (anger-sadness) is not promoted since its expression unbalances and hinders social relationships. These results agree with the interdependent cultural model, where calm and moderation are expected to maintain harmony and good social relations. Implications and guidelines for future research are discussed.

In December 1880, The Chamber of Deputies forbade the export of hundreds of archaeological objects to the French explorer Désiré Charnay. In this text the interpretations that have been given with regard to this process are questioned and an explanation is presented retrieving the ideas of Mexican elites concerning Mexican antiquities, the ways in which these goods were obtained, their ownership, which reveals why those objects were finally allowed to leave the country. Also, Charnay’s actions to obtain archaeological objects are analyzed, as an example of how the elites had different standards to measure the importance of the explorations, depending on who performed them and who participated. These issues are examined with the aim to reinforce a different way of using and preserving cultural heritage.

This article reveals the lack of knowledge regarding the educational expenditure that is invested to reduce the learning gap at the sub-state level in Mexico. Specifically, there are no analyses regarding the amount and use of programs designed to improve reading and basic math skills in the states of Campeche and Quintana Roo. The objective: to monitor public spending on those programs, seeking to characterize the quality and transparency of educational spending. Methodology: two cases were selected, Campeche and Quintana Roo; the educational expenditure of items destined to improve the educational quality of the years 2014-2016 was analyzed. Results encountered: articulation problems were found between the actions and programs; opacity over allocation of resources and over improvement actions; and limited strategies to reduce the learning gap. Finally, the need to generate emerging programs able to address the lag of learning and to improve transparency of educational spending in education is discussed.

The continuous diversification of productive activities for accumulation purposes has been carried out with the appropriation of territories and resources, fragmenting the man-nature metabolism, this is how tourism has been present by way of the implementation of megaprojects, and thus has become a factor of disputes over the territory. This research analyzes the environmental conflicts caused by the expansion of tourism in the communal land “José María Pino Suárez” (jmps), Tulum, Quintana Roo, taking political ecology and environmental history as the axes of analysis, concluding that the expansion of tourism in Tulum with accumulation purposes, is generating violent dispossession and affectations to nature that translate into environmental conflicts.

The households in the rural areas of Yucatán have adopted different strategies to counteract the effects of the cyclical crises that Mexico has experienced in recent decades (1980-2019), caused by external shocks or structural changes in economic policy: the implementation of the neoliberal model (1988), the entry into force of NAFTA (1994), the ratification of free trade USMCA (2018), and the establishment of 4T [Fourth Transformation] (2019). One of these strategies is the diversification of livelihoods through the realization of (labor-intensive) productive activities, wherein beekeeping plays an important role. This study has a quantitative approach to quasi-experimental design that analyzes the impacts of beekeeping on the monthly income of rural households through the Propensity Score Matching. The findings reveal the effect of beekeeping on the monthly per capita income of the rural household at MXN 559.70 (USD 25.6) compared to households that do not carry out the activity, which increases their probability of getting out of the condition of food poverty.
