El año 2020 será recordado por la trágica pandemia deCOVID-19 que paralizó al orbe, pero también por las complejasy múltiples crisis desatadas tanto en países en vías de desarrollocomo en potencias globales. El Perú fue uno de los espacios másgolpeados por la peste en el mundo; y lo que sufrió el sistemasanitario y nuestra gente lo sufrieron también la economía y elsistema político. No obstante, la sociedad peruana ha sabidohallar las vetas de luz para avanzar hacia la superación de laplaga, la recesión y la inestabilidad política y social.

This research work offers documented information on the human consumption of fish in viceregal Peru, collecting what is recorded by Ricardo Palma in his Traditions, as well as by Juan de Arona (Pedro Paz Soldán y Unánue), Dr. Ernst W. Middendorff and Fray Bernabé Cobo (1653). The list of fish is ordered alphabetically, and it is indicated whether they were consumed fresh, dried or salted, as indicated by these authors.

Resumen
Este artículo presenta por primera vez la noticia y las imágenes de los obituarios y notas necrológicas que se han podido ubicar en una primera aproximación en dos importantes hemerotecas de los Estados Unidos de América, la de la Biblioteca Pública de New York y la de la Biblioteca del Congreso de Washington D. C. En la primera se pudo hallar la noticia sobre el deceso de don Ricardo Palma en cuatro periódicos norteamericanos, y en la segunda, en otro informativo norteamericano más y en la prensa mexicana, chilena y argentina. No se encontraron referencias en la prensa madrileña, pero sí se hallaron informaciones sobre la convulsionada situación política que atravesaba nuestro país en aquellos días. Además, agregamos una imagen de otro periódico norteamericano cedida gentilmente por un colega palmista y como introducción hacemos un breve acercamiento a la obra de nuestro tradicionista en Norteamérica.

The present work focuses on the friendship that originated in the 1850s between the author of Peruvian Traditions and the Argentinean writer, and in the meetings held at the Argentinian writer’s house in the city of Lima between the years 1876 and 1877. We will try to get to know the literary and socialization space developed in that gathering.

Resumen
In this essay we will assess the validity of Ricardo Palma’s Peruvian Traditions. We note the importance of creating a format that inserts a historical paragraph, as a way of establishing a recreation that is based on events that have occurred. On the other hand, we delve into the careful rewriting work that the narrator does from the stories of the chroniclers. Through the analysis of three traditions, we compare the chronicles with Palma’s stories to highlight their creativity in recreating the events, encouraging possible dialogues, and managing narrative intensity so that interest in reading does not wane.

The Peruvian Traditions of Ricardo Palma, read and enjoyed by many generations, have been studied by critics from different perspectives, and from most people who know them they express in a peculiar way the events of life in Peru during the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries through the most varied characters from different social strata. The importance of Lima has been noticed in the center of this narrative work. The text intends to specify the preponderant place of the City of Kings in the most important narrative work of our writer. And to analyze some forms of composition in this multiple book.

The critical edition of the First and Second Series of Peruvian Traditions by Ricardo Palma was published in 2008 and 2019 respectively. In this article, we emphasize how Ricardo Palma modified his traditions in every edition, and, as a sample of this labor, we publish the tradition Una aventura del virrey-poeta that belongs to the Third Series of Peruvian Traditions.

Resumen
The purpose of this article is to describe the relationships that Ricardo Palma had with Catholicism. In ideological terms, he was a convinced liberal and, in that sense, a critic of religious institutions. However, it is necessary to establish a distinction: Palma understood very well the importance of the religious attitude, which he represented in his famous Peruvian Traditions; and simultaneously he was a persistently and staunchly anticlerical, criticizing and mocking religious ideas and practices.

Resumen
This article describes the relationship of Peruvian romantic authors with Spanish literature, with special emphasis on Jose Zorrilla’s connections with the group of “bohemians” that Ricardo Palma portrays in his book La bohemia de mi tiempo, and mainly Zorrilla’s relationship with the author of Tradiciones. The two writers had a fluid epistolary exchange and they met in Madrid when Palma was there as a Peruvian envoy for the celebrations of Columbus’ fourth centenary. In addition to the social connections, Zorrilla’s literary influences on the writing of the “bohemians” and Palma himself are highlighted.

Resumen
The present article explains the historical events and characters that Ricardo Palma recorded in his tradition “Un obispo de contrabando”, whose anecdote took place in Cusco in 1620. It also offers an approach to some of the historical sources from which our author learned to build the tradition of the fake bishop, who endowed with great sacred oratory claimed to have been presented by the king of Spain to be the bishop of Caracas.
