Resumen
Introduction: Heberprot-P is a novel drug that has come for the reduction of amputation risks; like any drug it is not devoid of adverse events. Objectives: to characterize patients during Heberprot-P treatment according to demographic and clinical variables, as well as to describe adverse events reported during therapy. Methods: a longitudinal study was conducted at the Comprehensive Care Clinic for patients with diabetic foot ulcers at "Policlínico Manuel Piti Fajardo" in Santo Domingo, Villa Clara, between January 2017 and September 2019. The sample was 104 patients who were applied the Heberprot-P. Variables used were: age, sex, Wagner's classification, etiopathogenic classification of the diabetic foot, treatment effectiveness and reported adverse events (frequency, intensity, severity and causality relationship were addressed). Results: females and patients over 60 years old predominated (67.31%). According to Wagner's classification for diabetic foot ulcer, grade 1 prevailed (73.08%), and according to etiopathogenesis, patients with neuroinfective foot prevailed (58.65%). Total effectiveness of treatment was 90.38%. The most frequent adverse events were burning, pain and headache. Adverse events dependent on the mode of administration and the product itself (burning and pain) predominated, mostly of mild intensity and defined causality. Conclusions: the beneficial effect of Heberprot-P in diabetic foot ulcers to achieve granulation was confirmed. Adverse events associated with treatment present similar characteristics to those reported at national and international level.

Resumen
Introduction: eye trauma represents a challenge for doctors and is an important reason for hospitalization. Objective: to know the epidemiological clinical behavior of serious eye trauma. Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study in hospitalized patients with a diagnosis of severe eye trauma at the “Arnaldo Milián Castro” Hospital in the period between 2015 and 2018. Results: Young men between 18 and 24 years predominated(12.6%), open globe eye trauma (84.8%), penetrating lesions (70.9%), in eyes with open balloon trauma, zone 1 was the most affected (71. 9%) and in those with the closed balloon trauma, zone 2 (47.8%), 56.3% of traumas occurred in work settings (those occurred in regular environments were the most common -52.9% -), the lens damage was the most common complication in both types of eye trauma, posttraumatic endophthalmitis had an incidence of 7%, a gateway> 5mm, the rural environment and direct damage to the lens were the most frequent predisposing factors, the presence of two or more predisposing factors (77.8% of cases with post-traumatic endophthalmitis) and, according to the calculation of the Ocular Trauma Score, 39.8% of the patients were placed in category 3. Conclusions: severe eye trauma is an important cause of morbidity in young men and occurs very frequently in work environments and in rural environments. Damage to the lens represented the most frequent complication in both types of trauma. The presence of several predisposing factors increases the risk of posttraumatic endophthalmitis.

Resumen
Introduction: there are several difficult airway algorithms; However, some authors consider that the extrapolation of recommendations created for the general population has served as a guide in the management of the obese patient without considering their weight. Objective: to determine the usefulness of an airway management protocol in the obese patient. Method: a descriptive and developmental study was carried out in the Surgical Unit of the “Manuel Fajardo Rivero” Hospital of the City of Santa Clara in the period from September 2014 to April 2018. The population was made up of the total obese patients programmed for elective surgery with general anesthesia. An intentional non-probabilistic sampling was performed, the sample was made up of patients who met the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. An airway management protocol designed by the authors was applied, which included various plans for intubation and ventilation of the obese patient and the usefulness of the protocol was related to variables of interest. Results: the airway could be established by conventional laryngoscopy in the largest number of cases (81.3%), a small number of patients (16.2%) presented adverse incidents, the protocol was mostly useful (70%) and in all obese groups, according to the body mass index, the protocol had a high percentage of utility (95.1%). Conclusions: the application of the protocol allowed the establishment of the airway and was useful in the majority of patients.

Resumen
Introduction: choledocholithiasis has been pointed out as the main use of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography since its introduction by McCune in 1968; following the development of laparoscopic surgery its diagnostic and therapeutic potential boosted. Objective: to describe the use of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in the diagnosis and treatment of choledocholithiasis. Method: an observational, descriptive study was conducted in patients aged 18 years and older who had the procedure performed between March 2017 and January 2019; the medical records of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of choledocholithiasis were reviewed. Results: the most affected age group was from 51 to 60 years of age, with a predominance of females. Jaundice was the main clinical condition (25 patients, 53.19%). Secondary choledocyan lithiasis predominated (19, 40.42%). Therapeutic effectiveness was achieved in 85.11% of cases; the main cause of failure was lithiasis greater than 1.5 cm. Conclusions: cholangiopancreatography was effective in most of the cases diagnosed with choledocholithiasis in which secondary choledocyan lithiasis prevailed as the possible origin of the condition and in which there was greater involvement of the female sex and the 51-60 age group, with jaundice as the most frequent clinical condition.

Resumen
Introduction: the metabolic syndrome is a state of chronic inflammation of low degree in which a set of metabolic alterations coexist. The increased activity of the enzyme myeloperoxidase is considered a sensitive marker of neutrophil infiltration in the inflammatory process. Objective: to determine the activity of the enzyme myeloperoxidase in the serum of Wistar rats with metabolic syndrome induced by the intake of 35% sucrose. Methods: an experimental study was carried out at the Department of Biomedical Experimental Research and the Experimental Toxicology Unit of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara between September 2018 and May 2019. The universe was constituted by Wistar rats from 180 to 200g from the National Center for the Production of Laboratory Animals. We worked with a sample of two experimental groups of 10 male animals each, one subjected to a hyperglycemic diet that developed the metabolic syndrome and the other with healthy conventional food, all of them randomly formed, which were determined the myeloperoxidase in serum, as well as cholesterol, triglycerides and glycemia. Results: myeloperoxidase values in the metabolic syndrome induction group were significantly higher than the healthy one (2.57±0.33 vs 0.78±0.13). A moderate positive correlation of triacylglycerides and glycemia was observed with the activity of the myeloperoxidase enzyme. Cholesterol did not increase in the group with metabolic syndrome. Conclusions: myeloperoxidase activity is increased in animals with metabolic syndrome.

Resumen
Introduction: the perception of the arts has a positive influence on the spirituality of men and, moreover, on that of the students to whom these actions are directed in the educational and formative context in which they are carried out. Objective: to show the usefulness of literature as a means of teaching in the proper course of History of Stomatology. Methods: a descriptive educational research was carried out at the School of Dentistry with 59 first-year students from the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years during the first semester, which is the course of the History of Dentistry. Forty-three works were reviewed and selected for teaching. The analytical-synthetic method and documentary review were used. To know the students' perception about the usefulness of the resource used, surveys were applied. The quantitative data were processed, the descriptive statistics and the relative frequencies were used. Results: 12 literary works, contents and relevant teaching organization forms were selected to design the teaching tasks to be solved by the students. 94.6% were satisfied with the experience and demonstrated its usefulness in the training process. Conclusions: literature is a useful instrument for teaching the history of the profession and contributes to humanistic training by integrating values in students of the medical sciences, which is why it should be introduced from the first year, according to the teacher's preparation and the possibilities offered by the system of contents and the organizational forms of teaching for its use.

Resumen
Introduction: invasive mycoses caused by Candida spp remain the most diagnosed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patients hospitalized in intensive care rooms at the provincial level. Objective: to identify the main type of sample by age group and Candida species by type of sample in neonates and children under 18 years. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study on the isolates of Candida spp in blood cultures, urine cultures, cerebrospinal fluid, endotracheal tube and catheter tip obtained from neonatal, pediatric and adult patients hospitalized in serious care rooms in the five provincial hospitals of Villa Clara between on January 1, 2018 until August 31, 2019. The sample was 114 positive isolates. Absolute, relative, percent, and statistical frequency distributions were obtained as Pearson's chi-square. Results: adults provided higher numbers of positive isolates, followed by neonates and pediatric age, mainly in 2018. Blood samples, followed by urine samples in neonates and pediatric patients were the most diagnosed; in adults it was the other way around. In neonates Candida tropicalis and Candida spp were the most isolated species, without statistical significance, in pediatric patients were Candida spp and Candida krusei, both with statistical significance in blood cultures and catheter tip. Conclusions: invasive candidiasis was diagnosed in the three age groups, mainly in blood and urine, and with variability in Candida species.
