The sort stature due to growth hormone deficiency is one of the most frequent endocrine cause. The treatment is carried out with recombinant growth hormone (rhgh) for a period of usually long duration. There is a group of patients treatment with growth hormone does not end in adulthood and should also be treated at that period of life. The issue of transfers we first raises in United States in 1984, as a consequence of the significant increase in survival during 1970-1080 in children with chronic and disabling diseases. The transition period from child to adult represents a crucial phase in the growth process where multiple physical and psychosocial changes occur. It has been arbitrarily defined as the period extending from late puberty to full adult maturity. It is necessary to reassessment patient with Growth Hormone Deficiency after that to arrive the adult height and to define the GH secretion status for to evaluate the continuity of replace treatment during the transition and adult period.

Introduction: the use of functional beverages such as the infusions of Camellia sinensis and Hibiscus sabdariffa, has grown in recent years worldwide thanks to its content in bioactive compounds with a high antioxidant power, attributing various effects among which its lipid-lowering capacity stands out. Objective: the purpose of the study was to evaluate the capacity of two aqueous extracts of C. sinensis and H. sabdariffa in inhibiting the oxidation of LDL obtained from plasma. Material and methods: organic green tea leaves and dehydrated calyces were used to obtain the extracts. The total phenol content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and the LDL oxidation test as a biological model for the evaluation of the inhibitory capacity of the extracts. Results: inhibition of LDL oxidation by both extracts was observed with statistical difference from the control (p≤0.05), with C. sinensis extracts being the highest activity. Conclusions: the two species provide a high content of fundamental antioxidants for the body, so that regulated and expertly directed intake could certainly contribute to the treatment of hyperlipidemia.

Introduction: university life leads students towards a change in their lifestyles, having a tendency towards physical inactivity, which makes them prone to suffer from chronic non-communicable diseases and that also derive from being overweight. Objective: to characterize the level of physical activity and body mass index of students of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Universidad del Atlántico. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study, carried out on 131 university students who took anthropometric measurements to calculate the body mass index and assess the level of physical activity through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Results: an average age of 22 years was found, a body mass index associated with excess weight greater in men (29%) than in women (25.5%), and in the age range of 18 to 22 years. (29.7%). Regarding physical activity, men (39.7%) were in the low level above women (25.2%); the age range with the highest levels of physical inactivity was between 18 and 22 years (32.1%).

Cancer and its treatment involve changes in diet and metabolism that increase the risk of developing malnutrition, especially when patients do not know how to feed. Although psychoeducational materials have been developed to favor healthy eating behaviors, the majority are extensive, they are aimed at patients diagnosed with solid tumors or do not indicate validation data. In order to create and validate a brief psychoeducational material aimed at promoting healthy eating and nutritional behaviors of the adult oncohematological patient, the infographic Recommendations for feeding the oncohematological patient was designed and validated. The methodology proposed by the Pan American Health Organization and by Ziemendorff and Krause was used in a group of expert judges (n = 18) and another group of oncohematological patients (n = 20). Percent agreements greater than 80% and κ> .68 were obtained in both validation groups, therefore, the designed infographic is a concise, valid and specific instrument that can share out among the target population.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal duplication is a rela-tively rare anomaly that can occur at any level from the oral cavity to the rectum, cases of gastric duplication are even more rare, and most of them have been reported in children. Material and method: In the following work two cases are exposed: number 1 female patient of 2 years of life, with clinical presentation of vomiting of food content that later became bilious in number of 3-4 occasions per day of 2 days of evolution, diffuse abdominal pain of 2 days of evolution, abdominal mass located in the right hemi-abdomen. Case number 2 male patient of 4 days of life, to whom obstetric ultrasound is performed at 34 weeks of gestation where abdominal cystic image is evidenced. Both cases are performed exploratory laparotomy evidencing in case number 1 gastric duplication to which total exeresis and gastric raffia is performed and case number 2 evidences intestinal malrotation with volvulus of the middle intes-tine plus intestinal duplication (ileal) to which procedure is performed From Ladd plus resection and ileoileal terminal term anastomosis, both patients evolve satisfactorily. Conclusion: The purpose is to describe the presentation of both cases in childhood, the importance of diagnostic methods and surgical correction by different techniques according to the location of the cyst in the gastrointestinal tract.

Introduction: the analysis of hospital mortality allows to evaluate the quality of medical care. The latest publications on mortality at Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital date from 1997. Objective: to know the behavior of mortality in the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital during the period 2013-2017 Methods: descriptive study. Registration books and death certificates of deceased patients at Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Hospital during 2013-2017 were reviewed. Results: 3,800 patients died, on average 760 deaths per year (margin 679-868). 79.9 % with less than 5 years of age; deaths in children under 1 year of age represented 61.3 % and in the neonatal period 26.1 %. Sepsis / Septic Shock (43.4 %) and Pulmonary Hemorrhage (15.4 %) were the two main diagnoses of death; 34 % of the deceased had a morbidity associated with the diagnosis of death and in 40 % the associated morbidity was a congenital malformation. 69.5 % died in the Pediatric or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and 40 % of the patients died within 48 hours of admission to the hospital. Conclusion: the age group with the highest mortality are those under 1 year of age, a high percentage of deaths with chronic disease and associated congenital malformations are evident. The fact that 40 % of patients died before 48 hours of admission indicates the serious condition in which these patients arrive at the hospital.

Introduction: Depressive illness in the elderly constitutes a generalized and unattended issue. The etiology is multi-factorial; it can be triggered by diverse phenomena and associated with pathologies in which, often, affective symptoms are minimized. In the Dominican Republic it is estimated that more than half of the elderly suffer from this disorder. Objective: Estimate the incidence of depressive illness in elderly adults in Arroyo Hondo, Peravia, Dominican Republic, during the period of November - December 2018. Methodology: Prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study. 201 individuals over 65 years were interviewed and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) was applied.

Introduction: Chikungunya, an infectious disease trans-mitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito, tends to be an asymptomatic and benign course. However, atypical and severe clinical manifestations have been observed in children during Chikungunya infection. Objective: To present a case of epidermolysis by Chikun-gunya in a 24-day-old newborn during the 2014 epidemic in the Dominican Republic. Case report: Case of 24-day-old newborn presenting with an initial bullous thorax lesion that later spread diffusely developing into an epidermolysis. After mana-gement, good evolution was observed. However, residual hyper and hypochromic skin lesions remained.
