This research presents an alternative material that follows innovative and sustainable standards constituted by the union of the gelatinized starch matrix with paper waste as load. Since starch and paper are hydrophilic nature, limitations in the applications of this biocomposite may occur if no barrier is created to restrict moisture absorption. For this, waterproofing tests were performed to analyze the behavior of the material in relation to water absorption (2 and 24 hours) with four different waterproofing agents applying one, two and three layer. Satisfactory results were obtained from the second coat in 2 h and third coat in 24 h with the polyurethane based waterproofing agents. Therefore, comparing to the other waterproofing agents tested, and searching for more sustainable results, it can be concluded that the polyurethane-based waterproofing agent of vegetable origin proved to be the one that best meets the objectives of this research.

The research aims to present a collaborative model for the design of solutions involving digital games or its elements for Higher Education and online learning, contemplating designer, teacher and student, based on the technical, methodological, organizational and pedagogical context. Thereby, as the articulator of these experiences, the game designer’s participation, together with the teacher and the student, ensures the efficiency of a project to motivate learning, whilst the teacher is mediating agent and the student, the protagonist. The strategy adopted involves bibliographical research and systematic review of literature. As a result, the research generated a collaborative design model which presents steps, elements, guidelines and instruments for design and collaborative evaluation to broaden the participation of the agents in the design process.

Although the photographic image has been trivialized today, it has a fundamental and extensive use in the study of various areas of knowledge, has a close relationship with the activities of Design and is primordial to contemporary cultural production. Thus, this study seeks to identify the expectations of students of a Design course regarding the discipline of photography and previous knowledge about digital technologies that have the potential to support the teaching of this discipline. Among the results, it is evident that the students’ relationship with photography is basically built by using the camera of their smartphones to photograph. In addition, it was possible to perceive the students’ interest in sharing and exchanging information with colleagues about the discipline’s activities and photography, in a digital environment that did not depend only on face-to-face meetings.

Currently, it is difficult to establish clear distinctions between Design and Art. Traditionally and predominantly, design activities are relevant to the technological context, because scientific knowledge and technological resources are systematically applied in design methods and processes. In Art, traditionally, the application of scientific and technological resources it is not necessary, because the differentiation of artistic production is in the aesthetic-intuitive processes. Although traditionally distinct, aesthetic-intuitive aspects are observed in Design and logical-technological aspects in the artistic processes. This article highlights the aesthetic-intuitive or artistic aspects in the design of graphic-visual brand identity, especially in the creative phase of alternatives generation. We considered the recurrence of the creative part in the Design methodologies, emphasizing the qualitative, analogical and intuitive aspects that allow or impose aesthetic or artistic decisions in the graphic-visual brand identity design.

Action research is a methodological strategy of social research that aims action as an intention to change. This action consists of solving or at least clarifying the problems of the observed situation. This method intends to directly involve social groups in the search for solutions to their problems and promotes a greater articulation between theory and practice in the construction of new knowledge. The present article aims to identify the possible contributions of action research in the design process, being characterized as a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study. This analysis suggests that action research can help to assist the designer in understanding the context; in identifying the needs of the actors involved and the problems of a given situation; in the selection of techniques and tools to be used in the process; in dialogue among all actors; in the analysis and interpretation of the information collected; and in the formulation of a solution in a collaborative or co-creative manner.

In this article we describe what doilies are and present some of the digital tools for creating graphic patterns for crochet. We found that the digital tools, available during the development of this work, do not incorporate effective computational creativity. That said, this article then presents the application of computational logic to the development of the pattern in doilies for crochet and argues imminent possibilities of incorporating computational creativity for the generation of these. The incorporation of these creative systems is due to the gradual attribution of autonomy to the computational processes involved and the relationship that the craftsman establishes with them, the result of this interaction directly influences the emergence of these patterns. The relations between the craftsman and the creative systems are manifested in a production ecosystem, and this article ends by discussing the potentialities of incorporating computational creativity into the design of doilies.

The article addresses the concept of conviviality created by Ivan Illich in the 1970s. That concept is still very interesting for rethinking production, consumption and education parameters in our society, as it defends that communities must be more autonomous from institutions. Authors such as Manzini and Thackara have recently brought these ideas back. Conviviality has been associated to sustainability, since it reduces the demand for material goods. It is possible to develop decentralised systems for learning and teaching, with internet and social media. And it is possible to create objects in a more autonomous way, sothat people can have an active part. This paper investigates conviviality in education and design and presents the examples of convivial learning and creationthat happened at a University Design course, and at bamboo design workshops and a clothes refashioning event.

Artivism and Activism: Graphic Design and artistic collectives Urban interventions have increased considerably in Brazil since the late 1990s, mainly as a result of the emergence of artistic collectives that have formed in several cities of the country. This article proposes to present concepts related to the fields of graphic design and urban art, to investigate its potential approximations, as well as to analyze a series of graphical interventions realized by collectives, in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, with the specific stamp of protest; the pieces dealt with in this research are Lambe-lambe posters, stickers, digital memes, crocheted works and projections, applied on various supports. The main objective of the research is to search for parameters to identify possible categorizations within the larger scope of the graphic language and the types of solution found by the activist interveners, active in the urban, physical and digital environment.
