Considering the diverse challenges of the current international environment, marked by uncertainty and various risks, but which also opens up opportunities for the Latin American region, this paper analyzes the search for articulation of energy policies, the situation regarding renewable energies in the context of MERCOSUR (Southern Common Market) and trade interms ofenergy, focusing on the case of Uruguay and its links with Argentina and Brazil. Based on a sustainable development perspective, the evolution of energy matrices and their eventual contributions in terms of climate change mitigation are reviewed. In this context, the process of investments in the renewable energy sector in Uruguay in recent years stands out, which have enabled exports from private actors since 2017. Consideringthe multidimensionality of development processes, the work explores some perspectives that arise from regional and national processes for the promotion of sustainable development models and the fight against climate change, including the complexity of the dialogue between the dimension environmental and economic-commercial dimension.

In the context of Chinese growing influence in Latin America, the purpose of this paper is to analyze how geopolitical factors impact the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) implementation within the region. Specifically, this paper illuminates how Brazil and Mexico, the two largest economies in Latin America, have different predispositions towards their relationships with China. Through the review of secondary sources, this paper sets the background to analyze the geopolitical factor of the BRI in Latin America, which is complemented by the use of international databases to contrast how the US factor has molded the relationships between these countries. Finally, a comparative case study method is used to illustrate how geopolitics have influenced the Chinese investment possibilities in both economies. Although China's presence in Latin America through investments, trade, loans, and official development aid, has grown, we conclude that the United States influence is still a relevant factor to understand the differences between bilateral relationships amongst Brazil-China, and Mexico-China. This particular finding emphasizes the importance of geopolitics on BRI’s implementation in Latin America.

Since 2000, the Peruvian economic policy presented a positive impact on the economic growth thanks to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) increase and the inclusion of foreign markets in the local economy. This study analyzes and quantifies the short and long-run impact of FDI and Foreign Direct Investment from China (FDICH) on economic growth in Peru, using annual time series data from 2001 to 2018 obtained from the Central Bank of Peru and the World Bank. Vector Autoregression (VAR) Model, Augmented Dickey-Fuller test, Johansen Co-integration test, and Granger Causality test were employed for data analysis through the production function. The findings revealed the impact and significance of FDI and FDICH in the short and long-run, which were positive and significant. Moreover, the Co-integration test (for long-run relationship) was positive, and the causality test in the relationship between all variables and the economic growth revealed the directionality of these links.

Rural-to-urban labor migration in developing economies, if beyond employment absorption capacity, is both a symptom of underdevelopment and the factor that exacerbates underdevelopment. Although various theories in development economics, in particular, the dual economy, together with numerous migration literature, bore intention to explore a balanced development approach in rural labor mobility, content-based studies are often overwhelmed, whereas the context/circumstance-based angle (like industrialization) in the research of labor mobility is always neglected. This paper reviews, under an ancient Chinese epistemological methodology that consists of time, space, and people, labor mobnility theories. It combines the old institutionalist and new structuralist schools of thought, searching a dynamic theoretical framework to deconstruct the overarching labor mobility in the process of industrialization.

The notion of "ambition" plays a preponderant role within the rules of the Paris Agreement, in particular, regarding the progressive updating of National Determined Contributions (NDC). However, this concept does not yet have sufficient clarity and distinction to be able to serve as a trulyguiding directive in the formulation of Chile's new contributions. That is why we try to deliver some guidance from the practice of climate negotiations and International Law. We also offer a brief orientation regarding the consequences that this reading would have for Chile when formulating its new NDC.

Peru has signed trade agreements with its most important partners in the last decade, including the FTA with China, which is currently its main trading partner. This research seeks to estimate, through a model of increased severity, the effect of this FTA on trade flows, both at an aggregated and disaggregated level. The results show that the FTA with China has had a positive impact on both exports and imports from Peru, and that the impact on exports has been over twice than on imports. In turn, in the disaggregation by type of goods, commodities have benefited the most. These findings show that the export basket with our main trading partner has not diversified overtime, but rather our primary exports have deepened.
