The Institute of Americanist Studies was created in 1936. Endorsed by the University of Cordoba, it was intended to give continuity to the work done by a deceased priest-historian, Monsignor Pablo Cabrera, in addition to consolidating other self-taught historians who had been working on the study of the past. This new space, a milestone for the history of the historiography of Cordoba, showed in its first publications the search for legitimacy of its place in the University and in other places of historical research of longer standing. Hence, its first two collections were crossed by the search for meaning and academic solidity. Throughout these pages we will analyze the first publications of the Institute of Americanist Studies and its clear link to the moment of its gestation. The temporary cutback chosen on this occasion proposes that we stop at its first stage in which its productions respond to legitimations and articulations between the Institute, the University and academic circles.

This paper intends to characterize and problematize the process of institutionalization of de historical discipline on the first half of the 20th century in the province of Salta, recovering the sense of historiographical construction as a collective task, with a multi- faceted and non-linear character, to think about the permanence of nineteenth century sociability networks and non institutional channels of the circulation of knowledge in coexistence with new public and private institutions, particularly those intended to the exercise of historiographical activity.

Our aim is to explain the ways in which, since the formation of the provincial state in Chubut (1957), an official narration of its past was constituted by the government as well as by the province’s intellectuals, organized in the Board of Historical Studies. Such narration of Chubut’s past played a key role in the organization of the provincial State, as it centred around the actions of groups considered as “agents of civilization”: the welsh settlers, the Salesian priests, and the Spanish colonial settlements, thus negating the agency of the indigenous peoples of Chubut.

This article analyzes the uses of the past put into play by young jurists in the Theses presented to opt for the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence defended at the UBA during the second half of the 19th century that analyzed the institution Justice of Peace of the province of Buenos Aires. Some questions that cross this investigation are: what past is historized in the theses? What evidence supports the historical narrative? What form of dynamics and social change is narrated in that past? What sense is assigned to this historiographical operation?

This paper explores how the Italian anti-fascist group Giustizia e Libertà responded to the racist / racialist campaigns of the fascist regime between 1935 and 1940. To do this, we analysed a weekly publication edited by the group. This text is part of a broader investigation on the ways in which Gino Germani thematized this issue, under the hypothesis that it had resonances with different inter-discursive domains; among them, the discussions within the aforementioned group, with which the sociologist expressed open affinities. The text is structured in three sections. After a brief introduction, we present some salient features of GeL. Then, we present the main milestones of the successive racist campaigns of the fascist regime to give rise, in two successive sections, to the description of colonial policies (1935-1937) and of racial laws (1938-1940) and GeL positions regarding each one. Finally, we review the itinerary proposed in the previous sections and suggest some keys that allow the present analysis to shed light on new aspects of Germani’s thematization on the racial question and, more generally, on some features of the way in which this problem strained Argentine antifascism.
