Introduction: SARS-COV-2 virus causes the COVID-19 disease that can damage different organs including the heart, liver and kidneys. It requires critical care, in which airway management is a clinical practice challenge to keep hypoxic or hypoventilated patients oxygenated to save or sustain their lives. A situation like this has, as never before, exposed health workers to the risk of contagion, so strict adherence to infection control measures is vital. Methodology: A documentary research was carried out through the search of key words: SARS-COV-2, aerosol transmission, respiratory protection and protective equipment. This research was done in PubMed, Scielo, Science Direct, a listing of websites of Clinical Practice Guidelines and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), original articles from international and national scientific journals in Spanish and English language were considered too. After the analysis, the articles were grouped into four categories. Conclusion: Advanced airway management in patients with COVID-19 and their care, involves aerosol-generating procedures, this fine solid particles suspension or liquid droplets in the air may contain viable viral remains whose infectious potential is uncertain. The review identified that there are defined care protocols among frontline staff as well as care managers, being health personnel highly vulnerable to SARS-COV-2.

Abstract. Research in the nursing discipline requires a nursing process (NP) which follows the scientific method in order to solve nursing problems. The NP consists of a written document which reflects the nurse’s role; this document must be structured, systematic, dynamic and cyclical, person-centered, results-orientated, and evidence-based. This study applied a bifocal NP model to a female patient of the Adult Intensive Care Unit (UCIA) of the State and Municipal Institute of Social Security (ISSEMYM) in Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico, for the purpose of contributing to her prompt recovery. An NP based on Carpenito’s Bifocal Clinical Practice Model was applied to a female patient on October 31, 2017; this model allowed for the conjunction of the nursing diagnostic (using NANDA taxonomy) and the interdependent problem to solve the patient’s health problem. The elaboration of a plan of care was based the interaction between two taxonomies, NOC (to find results) and NIC (to find interventions). In conclusion, the bifocal model in an NP allows the nurse to collaborate with the healthcare workers while the patient gradually recovers.

Introduction. 2020 is becoming a milestone in human history. The nursing profession is on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic and the syndemic of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) in healthcare systems and communities around the world. Body. The impact of this health crisis has drawn attention to the importance of leadership and diversity of roles of nursing professionals when it comes to confronting the pandemic. Nurses make up 50% of the healthcare system's human resources. However, job insecurity, moonlighting, government authorities who underestimate them, and structural violence have all led to tremendous work pressure and a higher rate of morbidity and mortality. This has led to reflection on the need to plan global healthcare and for governments to strengthen the nursing profession so that it can face the pandemic as well as the CNCD syndemic—which remains the leading cause of death worldwide—and attend to healthcare needs in the post-pandemic. Conclusion. In this context, it is urgent to rethink and reflect on the conditions in which nursing has been leading the world toward health during te pandemic and syndemic, and on he role which it should play in the post-pandemic. At the same time, governments around the world should seriously commit to dignifying and strengthening the nursing profession in all its dimensions, so that nurses can lead the march toward global health.

Introduction. The purpose of this document is to argue that the leadership of nursing in Mexico has an enormous potential for growth and that it is, in large part, silent. It presents cases to demonstrate that nursing leadership in Mexico's healthcare system is not properly recognized by either social actors or the state. Body. Nurses could incorporate several characteristics of leadership in their development in order to reach higher professional status and training levels as well as a larger role in the production of health services. In particular, there is an emphasis on the development of a collective leadership, which would help the field of nursing to accomplish systemic goals rather than group or individual ones. Unlike other professional fields, nursing education is founded on a humanist base which has been chipped away by changes brought by the last decades' healthcare reforms. Conclusion. Nursing leadership should be based on several principles. It must preserve its humanistic training. It must establish itself as co-equal when it comes to clinical and management decisions. It must articulate a consistent plan for the development of nursing as an advanced practice. And, finally, it must serve as a motor of change, guiding the healthcare system toward the model of primary care.

Introduction. Leadership processes in nursing around the world, including Latin America, have constantly been present, and represented by organizational areas such as the International Council of Nurses – ICN as well as Federations and Associations. Body. The advances in each of the countries of the territory have arisen in diverse periods. Brazil, Colombia and Mexico in the first half of the 20th century and the rest of the nations after the 50s. In all the organizations an aspect of importance is the management, boosted by the National Associations of Nursing, Federations and Schools, likewise these areas have recognized the most recent emergence of societies, organizations and groups which in a cooperative and/or independent way, work in favor of nursing in each region. The new age of information and communication technologies that move the world, lead us to active virtual and networked organizations.  Growing Up Foundation (2015- 2019) has generated new strategies to contribute to the dynamics of permanent change from management, transformation, research and social development in the nursing performance and supplies us to the spot called U-Nursing Latam campaign. Conclusion. The dynamics of open, flexible, democratic and participative networks are current trends which provide us with areas to grow and transcend, accepting the needs to strengthen the capabilities each of the nurses possess, commencing from their own life experiences.

Introduction. The thematic framework proposed by the journal intends to develop the theme of research and its importance as promoter of disciplinary development. The leadership in research will be sustained through my biography and accomplishments, making a brief description of how I got it. Body. Moving around in the midst of cultural and contextual limitations, I was trained and have constantly learned from the Embera Indians of Antioquia, from the research projects and from the journey between teaching, researching, acting and teaching again. Becoming a "researcher" and making it part of our lives requires distancing ourselves from positions and routines, overcoming constant obstacles and assuming great challenges. Conclusion. The comprehensive paradigm allows us to learn different complex phenomena that an approach based on methodological monism does not solve. Researching implies creative acts and contributes from solid foundations, to the disciplinary development and in lasting form to the care of life and health.

Introduction. Nursing staff have developed leadership over time, and its practice has taken part of the professional recognition that nurses demonstrate today worldwide. The exercise of leadership ranges from the influence in small groups to directive degrees in which the decision-making is relevant for the institutional action to provide people with the best attention. Body. Theories, styles, models and characteristics of management have been developed at different times and these are adjusted to the contexts, social environments and the dynamics of human interrelationships. Defining the style of leadership to adopt goes beyond reproducing what the theorists have proposed and it demands an ownership from the trainers who must solve their own questions in order to transfer these competencies of leadership using the most convenient methods. Conclusion. The fields in which nursing develops today require pertinent instruction to develop leadership capabilities at different levels, without fear or distrust, and to become genuine agents of change, which truly results in quality health care.

Introduction. The article starts from a concept of leadership in nursing and the competencies that this profile demands. It recalls the scope of nursing as expressed by the International Council of Nurses - ICN - which describes it as a combination of knowledge, judgements and skills that enable this professional to carry out the provision of direct health care to patients, families and communities as well as to evaluate its outcomes; to advocate for patients, health and  life, to supervise and delegate tasks to auxiliary staff, to direct, manage, teach, conduct research and develop a care policy for health care systems. Body. It recognizes that the field of nursing practice is dynamic and responds to changing needs of health and its determinants; the development of medical and nursing knowledge; and technological innovations. Conclusion. To fulfill this command, leadership is needed from nurses in different areas, both training, research and service, as well as leaders in professional organizations, in the different instances of the health system and related areas where public policy is defined and the profession is regulated.
