Introduction: the internationalist medical collaboration and the profuse literature published in English motivate the updating of bibliographies for teaching in medical science universities.Objective: to analyze the texts of the Vision and face2face series in a tour where the progress of the second over the first is appreciated.Methods: a literature review was carried out to develop a critical reflexive analysis of the content; study programs, master's thesis, original and review articles published between 2010-2018, in Spanish and English, using Google Scholar, in the period November 2017-January 2019 were considered. The keywords used were: general English, medical sciences , teaching-learning process and undergraduate students. After identifying the shortlisted studies, the titles and abstracts were read to verify their relevance to the study.Development: several textbooks for teaching general English began to be used in Cuban medical science universities in 1965, until in 2007-2008 the Cuban Vision series was introduced, very controversial and criticized by various authors; the application of Plan D brought with it the implementation of the face2face series, conceived at the University of Cambridge of which the first two books are being used, in a photocopied reproduction by the university publisher “Félix Varela”.Conclusions: the use of the face2face series has represented a significant advance in the teaching of general English because of its interesting topics, support materials and communicative approach aimed at developing listening and speaking skills in social situations.

Background: the subject Cellular and Molecular Biology is conducive to the development of scientific culture in students.Objective: to develop a system of activities for the development of scientific culture in Stomatology students from the Cellular and Molecular Biology class.Methods: a development research was carried out at the Faculty of Stomatology of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara in the 2014-2015 period. Theoretical, empirical and mathematical methods were used for the percentage analysis. The materialistic dialectical approach was assumed.Results: the diagnosis showed demotivation and disinterest in the study of Cellular and Molecular Biology due to the abstract nature of its content, the basic scientific literature only has exercises aimed at assessing the cognitive part, they do not enhance the scientific culture. A system of activities was developed based on a selection of content related to the subject, which was submitted to the assessment of specialists.Conclusions: the activities have a systemic approach, respond to the regularities provided by the diagnosis and allow students to develop the scientific culture based on the meaning of their learning. The specialists considered them adequate to give a correct answer to the problem investigated due to its scientific level, usefulness, methodological conception, relevance, novelty and possibilities of generalization.

Background: student´s scientific research is considered one of the pillars of higher medical education.Objective: to describe the researching skills, motivations and interests in the teaching students of Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences.Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences, from April to May 2017. The following theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical-logical, empirical methods: survey in the form of a questionnaire to students.Results: the majority of the students referred researching motivations, they are interested in exercising it once they graduate from their studies, but they recognized as barriers to have deficiencies related to the mastery of some researching skills and the non-existence of researching groups, only a minority considered this activity as moderately important or unimportant.Conclusions: the teaching students of Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences have interests to dedicate themselves to researching once graduated from the degree, but the preparation is still insufficient, reason why it is necessary to continue its overcoming taking advantage of the different forms.

El nuevo milenio ha acercado las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones a las aulas cubanas. El e-learning apoyado en recursos disponibles en la red de forma gratuita y los medios tecnológicos, manejados ya por los estudiantes, constituye toda una revolución en el sector de la educación, particularmente en las universidades de ciencias médicas. No obstante, su uso y aprovechamiento depende de la cultura informática de los profesores y un nuevo estilo en la forma de orientar y conducir el proceso de aprendizaje.  Involucrar a estudiantes y profesionales de la salud en los procesos de formación que surgen con el uso de esas tecnologías es un reto y la vía al éxito. Es objetivo de los autores comentar sus ideas sobre lo novedoso y estimulante que resultan aplicadas a la docencia y proveer información sobre algunos de los recursos disponibles para ello.

International collaboration is a distinctive feature of the policy undertaken by the Cuban State and materialized by its Ministry of Public Health. The authors add their experiences acquired in the fulfillment of internationalist missions by Cuban professionals in the field of medical education, to others already published in EDUMECENTRO; this time they refer to the preparation of an English-Portuguese glossary with more than 600 medical terms, which constituted a strength for the quality of the teaching-learning process to be used as a teaching aid in the sister Republic of Angola.

Fundamento: las infecciones del sistema genitourinario se han identificado entre las más frecuentes en las consultas de la atención primaria de salud; existe un porciento significativo de estudiantes universitarios que las padecen, lo cual repercute en su calidad de vida.Objetivo: elaborar un sistema de actividades para promover el autocuidado del sistema genitourinario en los estudiantes universitarios.Métodos: se realizó una investigación de desarrollo en 2015, en la Facultad de Enfermería y Tecnologías de la Salud. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: histórico-lógico, analítico-sintético e inductivo-deductivo; del nivel empírico: análisis de documentos, observación, cuestionarios y entrevistas a los jóvenes y profesores, y el criterio de especialistas para valorar la propuesta.Resultados: se constató poca percepción de riesgo de los factores que provocan afectaciones en el sistema genitourinario por los jóvenes estudiantes, no habían concientizado el valor del autocuidado para la preservación de su salud, y no lo asumían como influyente en la calidad de vida; omitían la responsabilidad individual en la prevención y control de las causas que ejercen influencias negativas en su organismo, por lo que se elaboró un sistema de actividades que fue valorado por criterios de especialistas.Conclusiones: el sistema promueve el autocuidado del sistema genitourinario a través de la articulación de actividades curriculares y extracurriculares que fomentan actitudes positivas hacia el cuidado del cuerpo y el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida; fue valorado como pertinente y adecuado a los propósitos para los que fue creado. 

Fundamento: estudios realizados en el mundo expresan la prevalencia del consumo de drogas con predominio del alcohol, tabaco y tranquilizantes en el sector estudiantil universitario, con riesgo para la salud de miles de jóvenes.Objetivo: caracterizar elementos comportamentales relacionados con el consumo de drogas legales en jóvenes universitarios del área norte de Palma Soriano.Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo en el periodo enero-diciembre de 2017, en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Santiago de Cuba. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción e histórico-lógico; empíricos: la encuesta en forma de cuestionario y matemáticos-estadísticos para los valores absolutos y relativos.Resultados: en el inicio de consumo de drogas legales predominaron las edades enmarcadas entre 17 y 19 años, con prevalencia del sexo femenino, la principal motivación fue el estrés, la mayor frecuencia los fines de semana, la droga más consumida resultó el café y la manera más asidua de este consumo fue en reuniones sociales con amigos.Conclusiones: independientemente de que las drogas usadas por los estudiantes universitarios muestreados son de uso legal, se alerta acerca de su consumo pues son bien reconocidos los daños que reportan a la salud; se impone el criterio de la aplicación de actividades de promoción y prevención en salud para combatir las perjudiciales consecuencias que se derivarían de su continuo consumo. 

Fundamento: el cáncer bucal aporta un número considerable en las cifras de morbilidad las que aumentarán en los decenios venideros. Informar sobre el tema pudiera ser el punto de partida si se pretende combatir este flagelo de la vida moderna.Objetivo: diseñar un programa educativo sobre cáncer bucal para adolescentes según necesidades identificadas.Métodos: se realizó una investigación de desarrollo con enfoque mixto, de intervención educativa, prexperimental, prospectiva y de corte longitudinal en el municipio de Santa Clara en el período comprendido entre febrero/2016 a noviembre/2017. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos y empíricos que permitieron la fundamentación bibliográfica y la recogida de información.Resultados: en el diagnóstico aplicado predominaron factores de riesgos como mala higiene bucal, consumo de dieta no protectora e insuficiencias de conocimientos sobre el cáncer bucal entre los adolescentes; y práctica de hábitos tóxicos por padres u otros familiares, por lo que se diseñó un programa educativo el cual fue valorado por criterio de especialistas y aplicado con resultados muy favorables en la solución de los problemas detectados.Conclusiones: los especialistas lo consideraron pertinente, factible, útil, con adecuada estructura y valor científico y pedagógico, y se comprobó su efectividad a partir de su aplicación en el grupo de adolescentes para el cual fue diseñado.   

Background: school life requires the consideration of different factors during the development of the personality of university students. Extension work has been identified as an important variable that influences its consolidation.Objective: to analyze the influence of extension work in the formation of psychopedagogue in matters of school life.Methods: an exploratory study was carried out at the “Marta Abreu” de las Villas Central University, from September 2018 to March 2019, at the “Félix Varela Morales” headquarters Methods of the theoretical level were applied: analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical -logical; Empirical: survey in the form of a questionnaire to students of the degree in Education, specialty Psychology Pedagogy and interview to key informant; and mathematicians for absolute and relative values.Results: it was found that from the extension work activities are carried out that contribute to the consolidation of school life in students, with a predominance of those related to health promotion. They considered its importance based on a healthy coexistence, although they recognized that sometimes their participation is insufficient. These criteria were corroborated by the vice-dean of university extension as a key informant.Conclusions: the influence of extension work in the formation of psychopedagogue in matters of school life was positive, both to act among them, and for their future professional performance.

The university is transformed and requires a comprehensive training of different models of professionals in line with their time. The English language is a fundamental element of that change; Today a greater linguistic preparation of the teachers of higher education is required. It is the purpose of the authors to socialize on a methodological immersion strategy for accelerated learning of the English language, which is part of a research project that is being applied at the Central University "Marta Abreu" de las Villas. In its conformation the theoretical bases for a new strategy of improvement in this level of education are assumed, which increases the quality of the integral formation of the professionals. In its investigative design, of parallel convergence, the quantitative and qualitative methods, techniques and instruments respond to the current approaches of social and humanistic sciences.
