The Inquisition of Lisbon extended its jurisdiction to the Portuguese territories of the Atlantic, including Brazil. Nonetheless, the religious authorities and the settlers themselves, or at least some, frequently requested the establishment of a court in Portuguese America. In this article, we will analyse the projects that were discussed in the 17th century, with a view to achieving that objective. Starting from the information contained in the inquisitorial documentation, we will try to show that Monarchy, Church and Inquisition had disparaging interests, and this was decisive so that none of the proposals under discussion came to be put into practice.

Resumen Esta síntesis retoma las principales etapas de la creación del Instituto de Historia del Tiempo Presente en Francia haciendo hincapié en la legitimación de esta novedosa corriente historiográfica. Asimismo considera la inserción de la misma en las problemáticas memoriales de hoy, especialmente ante el fenómeno de “globalización de la memoria”. Abstract This synthesis takes up the main stages of the creation of the Institute of the History of Present Time in France with emphasis on the legitimation of this innovative historiographical current. It also considers the insertion of the history of present time in nowadays issues regarding memory, facing particularly the phenomenon of “globalization of the memory”. Resumen  Los historiadores que impulsan el reciente debate sobre “el Manifiesto de Cambridge sobre la historia” han postulado el surgimiento de una crisis en nuestra disciplina, pero también algunos caminos para resolverla. Las reflexiones que planteamos en este artículo examinan críticamente los postulados del Manifiesto desde una mirada latinoamericana. Se pretende examinar aquellos aspectos que aparecen más débiles, pero también destacar las reflexiones que podrían abrir nuevos análisis sobre la historia y su pensamiento que nos ayude a superar la contingencia o las propias demandas que las humanidades plantean en la actualidad.  Palabras Claves  Usos de la Historia, cortoplacismo, larga duración, Manifiesto, Latinoamérica  Abstract  Historians, who have promoted the recent debate on “the History Manifesto of Cambridge”, have postulated the emergence of a crisis in our discipline, albeit they have offered ways out to solve too. The reflections we propose in this article are, therefore, addressed to critically analyzing the Manifesto’s suggestions from a Latin American standpoint. We shall highlight those aspects that appear to be weakest, but also those reflections that can open up new analysis on history and its thinking, which helps us overcome the contingency or demands Humanities are posing today. Resumen  El presente artículo realiza una revisión bibliográfica sobre la cuestión del retorno en el contexto de los estudios acerca del exilio republicano de la Guerra Civil española. Este repaso, ofrecido en clave cronológica, aborda también reflexiones metodológicas y observaciones archivísticas en torno a dicha investigación. Asimismo, se tratan cuestiones relativas a la especificidad propia de este campo de trabajo y sus principales subtemas. La conclusión que se extrae es que si bien el estudio del retorno ha conocido un tempo y una trayectoria coherente dentro del contexto general de los estudios sobre el exilio republicano, todavía subsisten vertientes del regreso poco estudiadas, lo que a la postre genera un campo de estudio desigualmente conocido. Palabras clave  Exilio republicano español, repaso bibliográfico, repatriación y retorno.  Abstract The present article provides a bibliographical review on the question of return among the general studies of the Spanish Civil War republican exile. This review, organized in a chronological format, tackles too methodological reflections and primary sources remarks. Likewise, issues relating to the distinctive nature of return from exile and its principal subthemes are also addressed. The general conclusion is that whereas the study of return processes is consistently integrated into the main pace and tempo of the studies on the Spanish Civil War republican exile, there are still several missing aspects, which ultimately generates an area of study unevenly known.  Key Words  Spanish republican exile, bibliographic summary, repatriation and return migration.  

Resumen  Las historias nacionales son relatos en torno a un protagonista, el pueblo, que permanece vivo a lo largo de los siglos. La historia no se puede escribir sin documentos ni hechos, pero los relatos históricos se estructuran mediante unos meta-relatos, que dan sentido y significado al proceso histórico global. A partir del siglo XV y hasta el siglo XX, las Historias de España se construyeron como relatos acerca de una identidad escindida. Ello se debió al omnipresente miedo a las personas con identidades ocultas: marranos, espías protestantes, traidores y quinta columnistas y luego masones o liberales, nacionalistas y comunistas. Todo ello creó un discurso interminable y generador de odio sobre la traición y los traidores ocultos. Palabras clave  Historia de España, relato, odio, traición    Abstract  National histories are stories about a protagonist, the people, who remain alive throughout the centuries. History cannot be written without documents or facts, but historical accounts are structured through meta-stories, which make sense of and give meaning to the global historical process. From the fifteenth century and until the twentieth century, the History of Spain books were constructed as narratives about a split identity. This was due to the omnipresent fear of people with hidden identities: “marranos”, protestant spies, traitors and fifth columnists and then freemasons or liberals, nationalists and communists. All this created an endless discourse generator of hatred about treason and hidden traitors. Key words  Historia de España, narrative, hatred, treason.

Resumen  El presente artículo examina de manera comparada la producción historiográfica en torno a los usos del agua en Latinoamérica, con especial énfasis en el caso de Argentina. El objetivo es establecer elementos de comparación entre diversas experiencias históricas relacionadas con control del recurso hídrico, con los usos sociales del agua, tanto para la producción agropecuaria como para el desarrollo urbano, con especial énfasis en el siglo XIX y las transformaciones en las primeras décadas del XX. Palabras claves Historiografía, derecho de aguas, políticas agrarias, relaciones sociales y riego.  Abstract  This article examines in a comparative way the historiographical production on the uses of water in Latin America, with special emphasis in Argentina. The purpose is to suggest points of comparison between different historical experiences relating to control of water resources, or social uses of water, for both agricultural production and urban development, focusing upon the 19th and the early 20th centuries.  key words  Historiography, water rights, agrarian policies, social relations and irrigation

Resumen  En el presente artículo presentamos un trabajo inédito del arqueólogo e historiador español Lluís Pericot García sobre los sumerios, escrito en 1917. En dicho trabajo Pericot esbozó la que iba a ser su interpretación canónica acerca de las características de la civilización sumeria: origen dravídico, interés por el desarrollo político de las ciudades-estado sumerias durante el III milenio a.n.e., prioridad cultural sumeria en el ámbito del Próximo Oriente Antiguo. Como se comprobará a lo largo del artículo, esas tres constantes planteadas en 1917 se repitieron en todas las aproximaciones posteriores de Pericot sobre ese tema.     Palabras Claves  Bosch Gimpera, drávidas, semitas, Orientalística Antigua.   Abstract  In this article we examine an unpublished work by the Spanish archaeologist and historian Lluís Pericot García on the Sumerians written in 1917. In that work, Pericot outlined what was to be his canonical interpretation of the main features of the Sumerian civilization, that is, Dravidian origins, political development of the Sumerian city-states during the III millennium BC, and Sumerian cultural priority in the Ancient Near East. As will be verified throughout the article, these three aspects pointed out in 1917 were reproduced in all of Pericot’s later approaches on that subject.
