In this paper, a reading of the use of parenthesis in Huasipungo, from Jorge Icaza, is made, realizing that its number increase in the different versions of the book —the first version, from 1934, and the definitive version, from 1960, are here compared—. The proposal of this paper consists of thinking on the parenthesis as a folding operation. With this choice, “a style continuously cut by parenthesis that puts the brakes on the progress of the story” as was framed by Manuel Corrales, is no longer appreciated. On the other hand, the novel is seen as a tumultuous narrative that incorporates and wraps joyful elements to the story. Also, the parenthesis used by Icaza is identified as a resource for displaying sardonic phrases which are used for defining some of his characters.

Resumen
The literary work of the Ecuadorian Jorgenrique Adoum is characterized by the alteration of language and his reiterative intention to describe the “other reality”, that which allows us to hear the voice of human beings displaced and silenced by society and history. Likewise, in the act of reiterating, Adoum establishes a transtextual fabric in his work that allows us to trace connections between literary genres, different periods of the author’s writing and constant themes in his work. What is the function of writing throughout Adoum’s life? This text aims to give testimony of his life through imagined autobiographies that allow, in the other reality, the restitution of those absent from the unjust and fractured official reality.

Resumen
El Rincón de los Justos (1983) by Jorge Velasco Mackenzie, a writer from Guayaquil, permeates the frontiers of high culture and popular culture. This hybridity responds to several economic, political and aesthetic factors of modernity. The novel offers us a radical rupture of the frontiers between elite and pop, the serious and the festive, the canon and the margin. It also invites us to think of a critique beyond heroes and grand narratives, accounting for the rise of the domestic and the quotidian. This desacralization of what has been done in national literature merits recategorizing some concepts. Eloy Fernández Porta calls the literature of the new millennium afterpop and in his book Homo Sampler he attributes this new way of conceiving time to the temporal loop. Velasco Mackenzie’s novel is ahead of its time. The other city, the other language, counter-writing, the change of perspectives and, above all, the transformation of the fragment to make comics, the folletín or serialized magazines, the structural basis that makes El Rincón de los Justos one of the most important novels of Ecuadorian literature.

Resumen
A journey through the textual production of one of the most solid voices in Ecuadorian poetry. A look at each of the books that Carlos Rojas González, from Guayaquil, has published since 1990. One of the few writers who combined the sciences of language with poetic praxis. His work can be summarised as the semiotics of a double passion: that of women and the beloved city. The neatness of his phrasing and conceptual richness are two of the many contributions of a semiotician who put maximum tension into poetic discourse.

Resumen
In the novel Sanguínea (2020), Gabriela Ponce, achieves “writing with the body”. She does it through the admission of fluids, especially menstrual blood, as a way to refine meaning and writing. The sexual and erotic also play an important role in finding a particular language that creates a grammar of the body. Motherhood is another element that allows us to think of corporeality as a form of language and at the same time as a configuration of space. The body is a space in itself in this novel, where the narration starts from a flow of consciousness of the protagonist.

Resumen
This article explores the thematic axes of the novel Los guandos written by Joaquín Gallegos Lara and Nela Martínez in 1935 and 1982, respectively. The review of the corpus of this literary work shows Nela Martínez as a narrator who takes advantage of the initial material of the first author to express her ties with and understanding of the indigenous. Through a poetic language and an evident social-political thought, Nela transforms the proposal of the first author by giving prominence to the subalternized indigenous voices. The author develops another possibility that highlights the indigenous world and its vindictive struggles.
