Resumen
Introduction: The cemento-ossifying fibroma is a benign bone neoplasm that affects mainly the female sex during the third or fourth decades of life. This lesion has a slow growth and the treatment is the surgical removal of the tumor, because radiotherapy is not indicated. Objective: to describe and discuss a case of central cemento-ossifying fibroma. Case report: A 41-year-old female patient sought dental treatment due to tooth mobility in the anterior region of the mandible. In this region of the mandible, an increase in volume was noted with a firm consistency on palpation, covered by normal mucosa, and displacement of teeth. Radiographically, the presence of an extensive lesion in this region was observed. An incisional biopsy was performed which led to the final diagnosis of central cemento-ossifying fibroma. Subsequently the tumor was completely removed. An autogenous bone graft was performed and four osseointegrated implants were installed to rehabilitate the patient. Implant-supported prostheses (lower arch) and a complete denture (upper arch) were installed to restore esthetics and function of the patient's oral cavity. Conclusions: Despite being a benign tumor, the central cemento-ossifying fibroma caused functional and aesthetic damage to the patient and required a complex rehabilitation treatment. After approximately 5 years of tumor removal, there was no recurrence of the lesion or signs of peri-implant or periodontal diseases, evidencing the success of the treatments.

Resumen
Introduction: In implant therapy, adequate alveolar bone volume and favorable alveolar ridge architecture are important considerations to obtain positive functional and esthetic rehabilitation. Objective: Describe prosthodontic treatment in an extraction socket with advanced palatal bone resorption secondary to a root fracture through the use of an implant-supported single fixed prosthesis. Principal case data: 39-year-old male patient, without systemic disease, and completely dentate with no occlusal parafunction. Radiographic examination showed the presence of advanced palatal bone resorption, almost total loss of the palatal plate in all its extension secondary to a root fracture of the maxillary left lateral incisor and a large osteolytic area on the palatal aspect of the root. The procedure consisted in extraction of the maxillary left lateral incisor and eventual regeneration of the palatal plate using a resorbable collagen membrane, which was adapted to the bone defect. Then, particulate cortical bone allograft was compacted into the site. Four months after grafting the extraction site, an implant was placed. Six months after implant placement osseointegration was confirmed, and after several stages restoration with a zirconium dioxide abutment and a full ceramic crown was obtained and followed up for 2 years. Conclusions: Regeneration of the palatal plate was possible through the use of particulate cortical bone allograft and a resorbable collagen membrane adapted to the bone defect and placed in position to recreate the palatal plate. This allowed installation of an implant 4 months after the procedure. This technique allowed esthetic and functional results using a single fixed prosthesis.

Resumen
Introduction: Treatment of periodontal disease includes mechanical therapy complemented with antibiotics / antiseptics, which could lead to the occurrence of long-term adverse effects. Objective: Describe the pharmacological potential of the fruit of M. dubia and its use as adjunct in periodontal therapy. Methods: A review was conducted of international high impact journals from the Web of Sciences which dealt with the topic (58 journals). The databases Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed and EBSCO were consulted, using the descriptors “review”, “phytotherapy”, “Myrtaceae”, “gingivitis”, “periodontitis”, “periodontal diseases”, anti-bacterial agents”, “anti-inflammatory agents”, “dental plaque”, “antioxidants”, “plants, toxic”, “adverse effects”. A total 517 papers were obtained, of which 60 were included in the study. 91.7 % of the papers had been published in the last three years. Data integration: A description was provided of the properties and safety of the use of M. dubia in humans. Conclusions: M. dubia has in vitro antimicrobial activity against dental biofilm microorganisms, particularly S. mutans, S. mitis and P. gingivalis to the seed hydroalcoholic extract, and S. aureus to the leaf and peel hydroalcoholic extract. Anti-inflammatory activity was also observed. Results suggest that M. dubia ethanolic extract could be incorporated into oral antiseptics, given its antibiofilm and anti-inflammatory potential.

Resumen
Introduction: Dental fear is an emotional reaction occurring in children with a special connotation. It may influence the behavior of child patients during consultation and affect the effectiveness of treatment. Addressing its characteristics and its various forms of manifestation is important to gain insight into this psychological phenomenon and devise future strategies. Objective: Characterize dental fear among Mexican schoolchildren. Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study was conducted of 163 schoolchildren aged 6-12 years from a school in Monterrey, Mexico, from February to May 2017. The Dental Subscale of the Children's Fear Survey Schedule was applied to determine fear levels. The variables analyzed in the study were sex, age and fear levels. Analysis of statistical data was performed with the software SPSS version 19.0. Results: The scale components moderate fear (45.4 %) and fear of suffocation (52.1 %) stood out among the results obtained. Injections and being touched by a stranger were the items most commonly related to great fear, with 42.7 % and 47.9 %, respectively. The great fear category was present only at 8 and 11 years of age, with 15.3 % and 9.3 %, respectively, and in the female sex with 48.4 %.Conclusions: Dental fear is moderate among Mexican schoolchildren, with a prevalence of fear of suffocation during dental care. Early school ages and a predominance of the female sex were the features most commonly related to this psychological phenomenon.

Resumen
Introduction: The etiology of temporomandibular dysfunction is multifactorial, and causal factors include psychological conditions such as anxiety. Objective: Identify the prevalence of temporomandibular dysfunction and anxiety as well as their levels among dental students from the Federal University of Campina Grande. Methods: An inductive cross-sectional observational study was conducted of a sample of 185 dental students from the Federal University of Campina Grande. Data collection was based on Fonseca's anamnesis index and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and subjected to the chi-square statistical test and Fisher's exact test, with a significance level of 5 %. Results: Results show that most of the sample was female (67 %) with a mean age of 21.4 years. On the other hand, 79 % of the students had some degree of dysfunction, which was mild in most (72 %). Anxiety state and anxiety trait were more prevalent on the moderate level with 79 % and 72 % respectively. No significant statistical association was identified in the study sample between the presence and absence of temporomandibular dysfunction and anxiety, be it trait or state, with values of p= 0.484 and p= 0.297 respectively. Conclusions: High statistical prevalence was found of temporomandibular dysfunction and anxiety among dental students, hence the importance of a detailed search for those signs and symptoms during clinical examination.

Resumen
Introduction: Posts and core are frequently used in endodontically treated teeth with excessive loss of coronal tooth structure. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of self-adhesive cements under different pre-treatments of dentin in the resistance to extrusion of fiberglass posts. Methods: An experimental in vitro study was conducted. The randomly selected sample was 56 extracted bovine incisors with mature apices and without root curvature. Before the cementing procedure, pretreatment of dentin was performed with 11.5 % polyacrylic acid, 17 % EDTA or sodium hypochlorite. The type of failure between the post/cement/dentin was evaluated by stereomicroscope. Two hundred and sixteen bovine dentin discs were used. The disks were approximately 1 mm thick, and were obtained from 72 bovine roots restored with intraradicular retentions. Data were analyzed for better comprehension in an SPSS database for Windows version 15. Results: The highest values were found in groups G3, G4 and G5, and there was no bond strength significant difference in group G2.Conclusions: The pre-treatment had no effect on dentin bond strength, and the self-adhesive cement RelyX U100 appears to be a viable option in the cementation of fiber posts.

Resumen
Introduction: Dentin permeability is defined as the passage of fluids, ions, particles, molecules and bacteria through the dentin under certain conditions. Objective: Determine the effect of the active application of a dentin adhesive with an improved applicator on human dentin hydraulic conductance in vitro. Methods: An in vitro experimental study was conducted of 40 caries-free third molars with an indication of exodontia from healthy patients aged 15-30 years, prior informed consent. The molars were cleaned, disinfected and preserved to be included in epoxy resin blocks. Cross-sectional cuts were then made to obtain dentin discs 1.5 mm thick and 25 mm in diameter. These were divided into two 20-unit groups, were subjected to etching with 37 % orthophosphoric acid, and were washed and dried. On a precision scale photopolymerizable dentin adhesive was applied, recording the force exerted. Application was performed with a Microbrush applicator in Group 1 and with an improved dedicated applicator in Group 2. The samples were then placed in a diffusion chamber to determine flow rate and subsequently estimate hydraulic conductance, thus obtaining information about dentin permeability. Results: Results were slightly lower in Group 2, but they displayed normal distribution. Conclusions: Statistical analysis with various tests did not find any significant differences in hydraulic conductance values, nor could an inverse relation be established between the force of active application of an adhesive with an improved applicator and hydraulic conductance. Therefore, use of that instrument is not advised.
