The conception of children has varied throughout history. In the Cathedral Parish of Caracas in the late eighteenth century, children were considered poor prospects of adults, whose future success as human beings depended on repression, which was experienced by them in their family context. On the other hand, children had no value as persons because the fact of being alive did not guarantee the attention of their parents; all depended on the circumstances of their birth. A child was held accountable for the immoral behavior of the mother, who in order to safeguard her honor and that of her family, would abandon him in the street.

Resumen
In this essay, the author reviews the vital experience of Andrés Bello as a member of the intellectual generation emerged in the 19th Century in what we now call Venezuela. He could be considered an expression of colonial maturity in the region. Campos analyzes the reception of the author’s work “Silva a la Agricultura de la Zona Tórrida”, regarding it as the posing of a model of society that is different in relation to the political drives of the period.
