INTRODUCTION: Hospital adverse events (AE) express deficiencies in the safety of inpatients. Although it is an issue widely addressed in other areas, not enough research lines have been developed at national level. The objective of this study was to measure the frequency of AE and its consequences in a hospital clinic ward in the province of Buenos Aires, and to quantify the underreporting of AE in the medical record (MR). METHODS: A descriptive study with an active methodology for AE detection was conducted. Through daily visits to the ward, the AE and the other variables were detected by direct observation of the care process and interviews with health professionals and patients. RESULTS: A high occurrence of cases was observed (70%), due in part to the methodology used and to an expanded definition of AE. The most frequent consequence in the patients was physical discomfort (65.6%), while for the hospital system it was the additional use of therapeutic resources (48.9%). The case-fatality rate due to AE was 5.3%. Only 39.7% of the cases were registered in the MR. CONCLUSIONS: The usual methodologies for the study of AE do not seem to be effective to identify all cases. Both the traditional definitions of AE and the underreporting of cases in MR underestimate this problem of hospital safety

ABSTRACT: to progress and compete with Europe and the United States. The Generation of ‘80 had to think of strategies to inhabit the vast territories and take control of the great immigration waves coming mostly from Europe and the Middle East. The State began to exercise functions such as civil registration, control of cemeteries, prenuptial tests and public education; these tasks were performed until then by the Catholic Church, which did not welcome the new provisions. Population growth was vertiginous: Buenos Aires went from 177,787 people in 1869 to 1,231,969 in 1909. This resulted in labor crises, problems of overcrowding in tenement houses, worsening of urban hygiene and higher rates of infectious diseases, raising concerns in sanitarians like Coni, Rawson or Wilde. The latter called for a pedagogical congress, as a result of which the year 1884 saw the adoption of the Law 1420, that dictated common, compulsory, free and secular education. Many functions of the School Medical Corps come from this law. The first health services in schools started to operate during the term of the second president of the National Education Council, Benjamín Zorrilla. To this end, the Council created on the 6th of May 1886 the School Medical Corps, whose regulations and staff were completed by 1888.

Resumen
Biobanks that collect biological materials and related data have become an essential tool in biomedical research. Their value lies in the sharing of large quantities of samples and data stored for multiple future investigations. This new scenario presents ethical, legal and social challenges related to the protection of the rights and interests of donors and the community to which they belong. In response to these challenges and in order to promote in Argentina the existence of biobanks with high quality samples for the development of research with scientific and social value, that respect the rights and interests of donors and the community, the Government Secretariat of Health has developed a Guide for ethical and legal guidelines for biobanks for research purposes. This article describes and analyzes the key points of the Guide

INTRODUCTION: Elderly patients with hip fracture are at high risk for complications and in-hospital mortality. Short hospital stay and early discharge with still active clinical problems may lead to readmissions. OBJECTIVES: to know the rate of readmissions, the reasons and the predictive variables in patients who had hip fractures. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was performed, with all patients included in the institutional registry of elderly patients with hip fracture between July 2014 and July 2017. Readmission rates and their CI95% were described. A proportional risk Cox model was used to describe risk factors and time-toreadmission. RESULTS: A total of 858 patients were included with a median hospital stay of 6 days (interquartile range [IQR] 5-9), 86% (737) of female patients and a median age of 86 years (IQR 81-89). Readmission rates were 10% (CI95%: 8.3-12.5) at 30 days and 39% (CI95%: 34.8-42.6) at 12 months. The main cause was infection (30%). Associated factors were: age (>85 years) HR 1.3 (CI95%: 1-1.7; p 0.03), female gender HR 0.5 (CI95%: 0.4-0.7; p<0.01), fragility HR 1.4 (CI95%: 1.1-1.8; p<0.01), Charlson score (≥2) HR 1.6 (CI95%: 1.3-2.1; p<0.01), hospital stay (>7 days) HR 1.4 (CI95%: 1.2- 1.9, p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Readmission after hip fracture has a high incidence. Perioperative care of patients with hip fracture is essential to reduce complications.

INTRODUCTION: Hospital Posadas organizes annually since 2007 the care, follow-up and referral of children from 0 to 6 years with low acute respiratory infections (LARI) in order to face the pediatric epidemic and reduce child morbidity and mortality from this pathology. OBJECTIVE: to improve the transversality of the comprehensive network care strategy for the care of patients with LARI in the different levels of care of the public health system of health regions V, VII and XII of the Province of Buenos Aires, in order to contribute to the reduction of infant morbidity and mortality, strengthen health care networks and guarantee access to the population at the level of complexity required, according to the risk of their socio-health situation. METHODS: descriptive design linked to the report of the health intervention experience on the LARI and with a retrospective approach as a basis for the presentation of the strategy and the evaluation of results. RESULTS: Considering the entrance of users by Urgency, Neonatology, follow-up clinic and hospitalization, 1838 total events were registered (710 in hospitalization and 1128 in ambulatory) of wich 1560 were referenced. The average delay in the referral of hospital equipment to the territories was less than one day (19 hours) and less than that of outpatients. DISCUSSION: the intervention allowed increasing the number of users included in the strategy, favored joint work and the integration of interhospital health team

INTRODUCTION: Traffic-related injuries (TRI) are a major problem in public hospitals. For better resource management and distribution, it is important to know the cost of hospitalizations. The objective of this study was to characterize patients hospitalized due to TRI and to estimate the direct costs of the care provided between January and June 2017in a public hospital of Tucumán Province in Argentina. METHODS: A study of costs of patients hospitalized due to TRI was conducted, with retrospective follow-up and summation of the variables considered for the analysis. Averages were estimated and proportions were compared. A p value <0.05 was considered significant. Statistical software Stata 11.2 was used. RESULTS: A total of 458 patients were hospitalized due to TRI, 79% were men, and the median age was 27 for both sexes. Motorcycles accounted for 77% of all vehicles used. Severely injured patients (25%) stayed more than 30 days in surgical facilities (average cost: USD 7252). The average cost per patient of complementary studies, in surgeries and hospitalization was USD 180, USD 823 and USD 1320, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Patients hospitalized due to TRI were mainly males, young adults and motorcyclists. The highest cost was in the group of patients with serious injuries, who required surgery, with an average stay of 35 days of hospitalization in surgical facilities

INTRODUCTION: The excessive consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) has been associated to increased risk of obesity and its comorbidities. The objective of this study was to analyze food consumption and energy contribution of SSB in schoolchildren aged 9-12 years attending primary schools of Córdoba city in 2016-2017, according to sex and nutritional status. METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 311 schoolchildren selected through a cluster sampling. A validated food questionnaire was applied, calculating food consumption in grams per day (g/day), SSB consumption in cubic centimeters per day (cc/day), energy intake in kilocalories per day (kcal/day) and proportion of total energy intake (TEI) covered by SSB. Differences according to sex and nutritional status were analyzed using t-test for proportions (α=0.05). RESULTS: A total of 97% of schoolchildren consumed SSB, the mean consumption being 539.16 cc. These beverages represents 9% of TEI. A greater proportion of schoolchildren with normal weight (29.14%) consumed less than 5% of the TEI through SSB respect to the ones with obesity (11.86%) (p=0.014), while the middle consumption category (5-10% of TEI) accumulated a higher proportion of schoolchildren with obesity (52.54% versus 36.42%) (p=0.048). CONCLUSIONS: SSB exceed the recommendation regarding simple sugar consumption (10% of TEI). It is necessary to carry out dietary-nutritional approaches aimed at reducing consumption in schoolchildren for the prevention of obesity and chronic diseases

Resumen
OBJECTIVE: to review the development of public policies and the legal framework in Argentina to guarantee access to legal interruption of pregnancy (LIP) on the basis of sexual rights and reproductive rights. METHODS: there were reviewed the laws and jurisprudence that establish the legal framework for access to ILE, official technical documents and other bibliographic materials that refer to that legal framework. RESULTS: The results of bibliographical analysis have shown that Argentina has a legal framework, guided by the Criminal Code of the Nation, which allows legal interruption of pregnancy on the following grounds: if there is danger to the health or life of the pregnant person or when pregnancy is a result of rape. The F., A. L. ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation has established an explanatory reading of the Code, promoting public policies that guarantee the right to ILE. CONCLUSIONS: On the one hand, despite the current legal framework in Argentina, there are still barriers to accessing ILE; on the other, it is necessary to reinforce public policies aimed at guaranteeing such access, which implies continuing to train health teams and continue the management work performed by the Directorate of Sexual and Reproductive Health of the National Health Secretariat, together with provincial ministries.
