Archival training in Colombia is analyzed on the basis of an evolutionary and current perspective, comparing disciplinary and algorithmic contents of the curriculum of academic programs that train professionals in this field of knowledge. The qualitative approach, a documentary method, and a type of comparative research were the central elements of the methodology, using the Document Management and Archives Administration Model as a reference for comparison, which constitutes one of the national public policies that guide the implementation of the archival function in this country. The main results show different degrees of articulation of the programs, reaching the conclusion that it is necessary to move towards processes of curricular harmonization for the training of archivists in Colombia.

Maintaining and preserving quality records is today a concern for the international archival community. One of the most accepted solutions has been to specify requirements in the field of record management. Therefore, a methodological proposal was elaborated to specify record management requirements applicable in any organizational context in a rigorous and didactic way. Documental analysis was applied as research method. Five experiences over the process of requirement engineering were examined, which served as references for the methodological proposal. A flexible methodology was obtained, based on four principles: system approach, collaboration, iteration and continuity, and transparency. This was organized in four processes: elicitation and analysis, documentation, negotiation and validation, whose successful execution requires the application of a set of methods and techniques defined in the study.

The research aims to analyze reading as a strategy for social inclusion in book fairs in the State of Mexico to have a panorama that makes visible the realities in relation to the subject. It was carried out from a qualitative approach, which allowed to analyze, within the book fairs, the following three categories: physical space, commercialization and activities, in order to have an interpretive vision towards the object of study. As part of the results, it can be affirmed that reading as a social inclusion strategy in the book fairs of the State of Mexico gradually begins to be glimpsed in certain actions that were observed from the three aforementioned categories, however this manifestation seems to be temporarily. It is fundamentally the commercial part to which the greatest weight is attributed and this can be seen from the planning that supports them since each fair is organized according to an exhibitors manual where the productive and economic part prevails, leaving aside the fair as a cultural space that serves to achieve, among other things, that reading fosters social inclusion.

This work presents an analysis of the informational profile of women who attended Al-anon Family Groups. It details the needs, behaviors and satisfaction of the information, as well as their conception of the library. Since the approach is exploratory and mixed, they used the survey instruments and a structured interview. Participated in it twenty-one women who attended the Al-anon group in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, and therefore it is not a probabilistic study. The informational needs were found to be: self-improvement (90%), acceptance (80%), happiness (71%), spirituality (71%) and grief (67%). The informative behavior is the use of printed books (86%), internet (66%), newscasts (42%) and television (42%). Regarding the satisfaction of the information, they are very pleased with the Al-anon literature. It was also found that 71% of them, do not attend the public library, so implementation of information literacy workshops aimed at older adults is recommended, as well as their incorporation of Al-anon literature to the library.

This article focuses on some reflections about the profession of the Librarian in the Order of Mercy. For that reason, an historical document preserved in the National Library of Mexico, was used as a primary source, under the signature of MS.10252. This manuscript is analyzed from the historical perspective of working only with one document, but takes into account some postulates from Studies about historical libraries, as those made by Concepcion Rodríguez Parada and Ignacio Osorio Romero.

In recent years, the repercussions of disruptive technologies have recalibrated many of the edges of the national legal systems. The fact that several provisions of the legislation resort to digital technologies to guarantee the deployment of essential freedoms (such as the right to information) does not necessarily translate into an understanding of their effects on daily life, nor on the development of indispensable capacities to take advantage of its benefits (without the loss of some type of agency). Therefore, being immersed in a digital culture, and in a broad informative legal framework, does not imply that the sectors and communities of society have an understanding of the requirements that this digitality seems to impose for the enjoyment of their rights, as epistemic agents that seek, process and transmit information. To freely deploy our essential faculties, and to fully enjoy our freedoms, it is vital to become digitally literate. In order to articulate the full exercise of the right to information with the faculties that digital literacy integrates, a more robust theorizing is needed that helps to discern between digital processes and informative processes, namely, a digital epistemology that helps to understand how it is that the digital dimension influences the understanding of the informative dimension.

The article discusses the genesis of archival photographic documents from the perspective of Photodocumentation, an area of cross-sectional studies based on the concept of the Information Cycle. It seeks to delimit the archival genesis of photographic documents as an approach applicable to photographic archives. It uses the case study methodology to analyze the research instrument Catalog of the Photographic Archive of Mário de Andrade, product of the organization of photographs, the series and its thematic subdivisions in conjunction with the theoretical field of Archival Science and Information Science. The specific objectives go through the conceptual delimitation of archival photographic document and Information Cycle, from the perspective of Photodocumentation. We conclude by verifying that the archival genesis, the initial phase of the informational cycle, involves the identification of the producer and that the information organization procedures must consider both the visual elements and the context of creation, as they affect the recovery and communication of information recorded in the archives.

The article presents information policies of the libraries of the Honorable Congress of the Mexican Union. It makes a diagnosis about its areas like services, collections, and human resources through interviews with those responsible for the libraries at their workplace. It asks whether in each of the areas: services, collection management and human resources selection if they have an information policy that indicates them how they should be carried out these activities. The instrument is a questionnaire elaborated based on IFLA’s Parliamentary Library Guidelines. It is a documental and field research. The sample studied are the three libraries that belong to the system. It compares what IFLA says about the guidelines the type of libraries ought to have, with the policies that were found in the documental and field research. The results obtained demonstrate that they do count with the explicit information policies at the macro, mezzo and micro levels. It is concluded that it is necessary that the responsible of the libraries elaborate, implement, evaluate, and improve information policies that help them to reach their objectives and goals.

The creation of a Records Management Policy in universities supports the informative-documentary processes. The objective of the research is to design the Records Management Policy for the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas. This center is located in the city of Santa Clara, being the most important house of higher studies in the center of Cuba. For the design of the instrument, documentary analysis and document review were used as the fundamental method. The Policy is presented, based on the identification and description of its components, among which the following stand out: Glossary of terms, Preamble, Purpose, Policy Statement, Scope, Regulatory and regulatory framework, Records Management Systems, Responsibilities, Relationship with other policies and Validity. The proposal of the Policy is in line with the examples of good practices established at an international level in universities and the analysis of the normative guidelines linked to the process.

This article aims to identify the current purpose(s) of personal name authority catalogues, based on the metadata (elements/attributes) that have been included in said catalogues, after the application of standards of normalization. To achieve the objective, documentary analysis was used as a research method, so that a review and analysis of the existing literature was made around authority control, authority catalogs and normalization standards used in the development of these catalogs. The analysis of the information located in the literature was done under a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope. It was identified that the control of authority over personal names, and its realization through the application of standards such as the GARE, the GARR and AACR, has had and has an organizational purpose, which is reflected in the elaboration of catalogs of authority. However, with the introduction of standards such as FRAD, RDA and LRM, the purpose of such catalogs put an emphasis on informational aspect. Thus, this research maintains that the current purpose of personal name authority catalogues, in addition to being organizational, is/can be informative, depending on the metadata (elements/ attributes) that are included.
