Assessment is not an activity that should be limited to the teacher but involving learners in this process enhances their metacognitive activity and can improve their communicative competence. In this paper, we analyze a corpus of assessment reports written by FLE students at level B1, where they analyze two monologue discourses. Our results show that the instructions received determine the elements they detect, the degree of depth and the quality of their appraisals. Therefore, it is necessary to design an instrument that encourages meaningful reflection and a continuous training so that this peer assessment activity contributes to improving their future productions

Drawing on four famous verses of Horace’s Epistle to Pisones (v. 333-334 and 343-344), criticism and literary practice transformed the poet into a benefactor of humanity who improves men by instructing and entertaining them. Our goal is to reveal―as in filigree and marking the transition from one era to another, from classicism to modernity―the deviations to which these verses have given rise

The protagonists of two novels, the first by the Italian writer Elsa Morante, L’isola di Arturo (1957) and the second by French Nobel prize winner J.M.G. Le Clézio, Le Voyage à Rodrigues (1986), suffer the consequences of a dual insularity: they live on a small island and, in addition, they are isolated from their fellow human beings by their idiosyncratic dreams. Each of them chooses to pursue their quest for a fulfilling identity in opposing directions which, in turn, lead to contrasting outcomes. For Arturo, real life begins outside the island. On the contrary, for the Narrator, real life is right here, on the island

This article documents the history of the first Spanish translations of Madame Bovary in Spain and Latin America over more than half a century: from 1875, when the first version was published in Spanish, until the Spanish Civil War, turning point in the Hispanic publishing world marked by the decline of the Spanish publishing industry and the boom of the sector in Latin America. Our main purpose is the analysis of the translations published on both sides of the Atlantic in that period with the aim of documenting the translation and editing practices used and establishing the foundation for a future catalog of the Spanish translations of this work

Joseph Kessel wrote several testimonies on the Catalonian uprising of 1934. We first analyse the articles on the journal Le Matin in which he tells about what was happening in Barcelona. We then comment on Kessels’ reportage Orage sur Barcelone published in Marianne, where he enlarges what he had exposed in Le Matin. We also analyse Une balle perdue (1935), a novel dealing with the ideological growth of a man named Alejandro. Through this character, Kessel explains the behaviour of several young men who, facing the defeat of the «Catalan state», decided to honourably show their insurrection by becoming snipers in order to end up their lives shooting the Spanish soldiers from the roofs of Barcelona

This work studies the affinities between Breton and Cortázar about the wandering of the walker through Paris. That is: the setting of a Paris-labyrinth for accidents on the streets. A wandering opposite to the inertia of a profane life order founded on safety

This paper focuses on nature as subject-matter of the French songs in the Jacobean route. It analyses the role and treatment of nature as determined by the type of composition in which it appears. Three different kind of songs have been established : en route (informative), narrative (entertaining) and moralizing (didactic). In the first category, nature forms part of a collective pilgrimage experience available for future devout travellers. In the second group, nature is a useful resource for the edifying distraction of the pilgrim. Finally, in the compositions that possess a moral aim, nature is a means to express certain notions of Christian life. As a conclusion, we have proved that nature is conceived of as the variable manifestation of the bond between the worship to Santiago and an experiential context including culture and literature that reaches toward the Modern Age but can be traced back at least to the Middle Ages.

The aim of this essay is to analyze how the American language poets’ presence in France corresponds to the significant interest of some French publishers in the avant-garde. To this end, an historiographical analysis is carried out on the production, and dissemination of the language poets’s work published in France between 1975 and 2018 in 9 publishers, including 40 authors, and 104 different titles involved in experimentalim and internationalism. The emphasis of both these poets and editors on avant-garde is consistent with what Peter Bürger calls a “historically necessary newness,” which has discursive implications at the literary, political, social, and consciousness level. This approach is particularly evident in these poets’ interest in the role of language, problem of representation and commodification of poetry. Coincidentally, one can verify how the French editors who published these experimental poets shared the same discursive and aesthetic propositions.

Nowadays, approximately 300 million people (Beck et al., 2018) in all five continents speak French. In this paper we analyse the current ways in which this language is expanded and preserved, keeping in mind that French coexists within hypercentral, supercentral, central and peripheral languages, some of them in danger of extinction. Francophonie and diversity walk together. We study the case of France and what the future of its linguistic wealth is, both from a linguistic and from a political perspective: protection or extinction?
