The aim of this article is to investigate the perceptions about the conjuncture of the Salvador Allende government 1970 - 1973 contained in the memory of the Interbrigada Víctor Jara (1977-1988), the student organization of solidarity of the Soviet period. We intend to describe the sensitivities and perceptions from the perspective of Transnational History as well as to distinguish the subject that elaborates that vision, such as the Soviet youth, which observed in Salvador Allende and other Chilean similar persons a counter-discourse to the Soviet nomenklatura.

This article analyses the role that gastronomic cultures have played as distinctive and symbolic elements in the definition of “ethnic” collective identities. We analysed the Italian emigration to the Brazilian estate of Rio Grande do Sul, which since 1875 has received a large number of compatriots, who have become landowners. Through literary and memorialist sources of early immigrants, we describe the dynamics which helped the emerge of transnational gastronomy with a look also on parallel migratory processes in the urban contexts.

This research deals with the culinary system produced by the community of Azorean immigrants of São Paulo. It is methodologically based on Oral History, which allowed us to observe how (re)constructed dishes represent flavors of memory, ancestrally elaborated on the islands and ritualistically re-elaborated during holidays and savored by the immigrant community, their descendants and others. We observed how the gastronomic practices were developed on holidays, main dishes, ingredients, preparation, forms of presentation and what are the different values assigned to them by the group.

This article analyses the relation between history and memory through the case of the massive violence of the Spanish context after the coup of 1936, the Spanish Civil War and the first years of Franco’s regime. It analyses the process of transformation of the sites of violence in sites of memory during Francoism, and in the current democracy that was born in the transition. The present article argues that in the Spanish case this transformation meant the creation of places of denial, like a previous step to its conversion in places of oblivion and impunity.

In the last two decades memorial movements and certain types of historiography have firmly gotten into a discussion about memory of the recent Spanish history. It is a fact that this discussion has relatively destabilized the public and hegemonic memory we inherited from Franco's regime and we consolidated during the transition to democracy. Nevertheless, Spanish democracy remains long established on some 1936 war memories that incline not wanting to know or not being able to remember through alternative interpretations. This shows a mischief way of being in the world, especially if we compare it to the subjectivities produced by the gradually introduced public policies on human rights in Latin America.

Fifty years after the student slaughter in 1968 in Mexico City, Elena Poniatowska’s La noche de Tlatelolco still represents the narrative archetype of the massacre. This essay aims to analyse the mythical, structural and social elements of the work that, from the intersubjective experience of the silenced periphery, outlines a new methodology for the reconstruction of historical memory. By challenging the State project for the marginalization of the residual voices, the plaza’s poetics turns the testimonio’s polyphony into an aesthetic strategy of political denounce.

The aim of this study is to analyze the way in which detective novel as a genre shapes narratives that discuss the function of law and, therefore, the existence of a(n) (im)possible justice, when it is (not) put into existence by the institutions responsible for it. The starting point of this analysis will be Antônio Callado's novel, Sempreviva, written in 1981 during the transitional period towards democracy when the Amnesty Law, institutionalizing an official amnesia, makes it difficult to access reality and to process trauma, identifying, instead of a change, the persistence of the past into the present.

Between 1900 and 1930 in Argentine different types of publications promised their readers to take care and improve their health through recipes, scientific information about food and useful cooking tips. This educational vocation of the press coincided with the process of modernization of Argentinian society and the differentiation of its readers. In direct confrontation with the world of healthy food, one can find representations through photographs that give testimony of the daily diet and social meetings having food as a center. In this article we aim to analyse the relationship – both conflicting and complementary – between the ways of representing common food and cooking.
