Villanueva, Javier
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
Since the eighties different authors have been studying the relation of economic processes of growth to technological transformations. At that moment the main vision was to consider technological changes as external to economic processes in themselves. This conceptionwas modified with the discovery of close links between knowledge and technological innovation and business success. Thus, the role of technological changes was recognized as being part of the economic system, especially in relation to foreign trade. In this article, Javier Villanueva analyses these issues in relation to the changes that are taking place in economics.

Pithod, Alberto
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
Aberlardo Pithod describes in his article, as a native of the area, the interaction between culture and environment in the province of Mendoza. The author explains the geographical and climatic conditions that have always affected the territory of Mendoza. The unwelcoming space and the hostile weather are the defining characteristics. In this situation, the impressive development and the whole history of Mendoza show the strong will of its inhabitants, who have been able to overcome the difficulties of the weather, turning this territory into the prosperous region that we know today.

Mac Lane, Saunders
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
This article shows the risks for the University’s identity in the current knowledge society. The prestigious American mathematician dead in 2005, argues that the universities in the United States have been affected by the dismantling of research industrial laboratories and their transfer to the academic area. According to Mac Lane, this and other factors like a managerialist conception of education, are deforming university research work subordinating it to the logic of short-run outcomes.

Attaguile, Miguel Darío
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
The aim of this essay is to present, very succinctly, the evolution of the theoretical framework of the firm in relation to agency theory and its tensions due to the separation of control by shareholders. In addition, there will be a tour of the main works that linked the problem of the principal-agent, to the existence of a paradigm to deal with the problem of managerial remuneration for option plans.

Crespo, Ricardo
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
This paper presents a critical study of Amartya Sen’s book, The Idea of Justice. First, the contrasts between pragmatism and objectivity in the idea of justice proposed by Sen are analyzed. Then, the concept of ‘capability’ proposed by this economist is developed, and Martha Nussbaum’s objections to this approach are presented. Further, the article explores the links between the idea of justice and Amartya Sen’s economic conceptions, and analyzes the discussion about the maximizing diagram carried out by this thinker and Elizabeth Anderson. Finally, an assessment of the work as a whole is made, highlighting the importance of practical reason in the analysis of justice.

Migliore, Joaquín
Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina
The paper analyzes the importance of Amartya Sen’s last book, The Idea of Justice, as it represents a synthesis of all his thinking. The author points out that the importance of this work lies in its ethical dimension, guided by reason, and compares it to John Rawls’s theory, drawing parallels and differences between the thinking of these intellectuals. Then, Migliore exposes the three great themes analyzed by Sen in his theory: the question of fair distribution of resources, democracy or freedom of participation, and human rights. Finally, as a conclusion, he explains that the work of the Indian economist has interesting coincidences with Christian social thinking.
