From the variants of Tiresias‘s myth, which is taken as an object of study and as a pretext, this paper focuses on the determinant characteristics of empathy.

This paper does a detailed revision of the sixth hypothesis of Plato‘s Parmenides II (163c–164b). Its aim is to explore a seemingly absurd path: the absolute nothingness. For this purpose, this work analyses the categories the philosopher pretended to apply to this "reality".

The aim of this paper is to elucidate the meaning behind Diderot’s criticisms of La Mettrie in his Essai sur les règnes de Claude et de Néron, et sur les mœurs et les écrits de Sénèque, which are particularly noteworthy as both philosophers shared a materialistic view of reality and professed atheism. Furthermore, it is illustrated that the considerations present certain weak points which raise concerns about its scope. In turn, one of them brings to light the methodological issue that leads to tensions in the text and jeopardizes the objective Diderot had resolved to reach, that is, to defend the image of Seneca before his old and modern detractors.

Labeling theory is the theory of how the self-identity and behavior of individuals may be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them. The theory becomes important and conquers its space as one of the most productive theories about deviance. In this study, based on a contemporary conception of scientific theory, that of the structuralist metatheory, a reconstruction of Howard Becker/Edwin Lemert’s approach is proposed, allowing to make explicit the deep structure of the theory.

In the following, I explore the idea that Alain Badiou’s singular position regarding the problem of the one and the multiple is inseparable from the definition of void as the name of being. I propose that the concept of void links the inconsistent multiple with mathematics qua ontology in Badiou’s philosophical project. In this sense, I consider the assertion that mathematics is ontology to analyze the movement in which philosophy abandons the task of producing truths to focus on its non-philosophical conditions and the truths generated in truth processes.

Este libro es un intento de rehabilitación de la psicología general, i.e., de una teoría comprensiva y sistemática de la psique humana. El autor, Niels Engelsted, se propone rehabilitar la psicología general recurriendo, por un lado, a la filosofía de Aristóteles y, por el otro, a la historia de la psicología. ¿Por qué recurrir a la filosofía de Aristóteles para rehabilitar la psicología general? Según Engelsted, por más que muchos de los contenidos de la psicología aristotélica hayan sido falseados, se encuentra más adelantada que la psicología contemporánea desde la perspectiva de su “alcance y su intención”. La taxonomía que Aristóteles propone en sus tratados sobre la naturaleza es una “psicología general que traza la arquitectura del dominio psicológico desde las funciones animales más básicas hasta los rasgos propiamente humanos” (p. 10). La concepción aristotélica de la naturaleza, aunque no es evolutiva, supone una continuidad entre todos los seres vivos y exige una explicación sistemática de todas las funciones atribuidas al alma. Según Engelsted, en la aproximación aristotélica a la psicología está la solución a la crisis de la psicología: sólo hay que “ponerse al día con Aristóteles”, como reza el título del libro.

In this paper I examine the association between the concepts of “materialism” and “atheism” in Ralph Cudworth’s The True Intellectual System of the Universe, and the metaphysical consequences that the Englishman establishes for those trends. Cudworth offers an exhaustive classification of possible atheisms in order to show their mistakes, and in this way he participates in the origination of categories which eventually will be considered as historiographical. I present then the concept of “Plastic Nature” and the ontological order that Cudworth thinks to be the correct one, and which exhibits the Platonic influence and the subordination of the material to the immaterial. Thus, in his metaphysics Cudworth maintains a dualism insofar as he does not reject the existence of matter but the wrong use that atheists make of it.
