This paper describes the ephemeral architecture erected by the House of the Jesuits of Seville on the occasion of the proclamation of Fernando VI in 1746. This research was based on contemporary printed sources. The presence in this architecture of a serie of historical portraits may be understood as a instrument for exaltation of monarchy. Heroes and monarchs that are represented there constitute bearers of the political virtues of the monarch, and are formally and significantly treated as authentic symbols. But, at the same time, from the appearance of these characters an autonomous understanding of the history of Spain is deduced. So that way, these portraits show a path toward an idea of nation, an aspect that contributes a substantive advance to the contents of the local baroque festival.

The Brotherhood of Arantzazu of Lima ordered in 1644 in Spain the carving of an image of the Virgin venerated in the sanctuary of Arantzazu in Oñati. Relación de la grandiosa fiesta que se hizo… a la colocación de la milagrosa imagen de N. Señora de Aransazu, published by Ayllón in 1647, brought some details about the vicissitudes of this story. But neither Ayllón nor later authors were able to offer information about the identity of the artificer of the sculpture. The discovery of the contract signed in Seville between some members of the brotherhood and the sculptor Juan Bautista del Castillo will let us supply some of the voids that Ayllón was not able to reflect in his Relación.

This paper insists on the prominence that genoese sculpture reached in Andalusia during the Early Modern Times, specifically various wood works that were required during the 18th century. We don´t know documentation about them, but that circumstance doesn´t prevent them from being in contact with Anton Maria Maragliano and his disciples or followers. The comments offered on each sculpture allow us to make evaluations about their use, the stylistic qualities they show and the models reproduced. In addition, it aspires to highlight the little interest that the Ligurian art manifestations have in Seville, one of the most important creative and commercial centers in the Spain of the Ancien Regime.

This study provides references and documentary transcriptions concerning the Sevillian painter Juan de Espinal (1714-1783). They allow to go in depth into some aspects of his professional practice such as his constant activity as an expert and appraiser of various local art collections, his reliance on the real estate business throughout his career and his management of the board of trustees of a chapel he owned in the Church of San Gil. These facts, added to the quality of his art, granted Espinal the top of the ladder of Sevillian painting during much of the eighteenth century.
