Introduction. In medical education, it is important to develop competencies that encourage learning to learn through flexible strategies such as research training. Objective. To determine the relationship between research training, autonomous learning strengthening, and medical students’ time management. Methodology. A mixed-design study with quantitative (transversal analytical) and qualitative (focus groups and interview) components. In the study participated 110 last semesters students who signed an informed consent document. A sociodemographic-academic instrument, a scale of preparation for independent learning, and time management instrument were applied. A descriptive analysis of the variables was conducted, and the scores obtained were compared among students linked or not to research processes through the student’s t-test. Results. Of the participants, 60.6% were women, 94.5% did not work, and 85.5% came from private schools. Most students have access to computers and internet services, 96.4% and 98.2%, respectively. Students linked to research processes obtained higher scores on the scale of independent learning than those who were not linked (Difference in means: 7, IC95%: 1-13, p = 0.02) in aspects related to the desire to learn (p = 0.004). In the same way, there were marginal differences in time management (Difference in means: 4.3, 95% CI: 0.2-8.5, p = 0.04), related to short-term planning (p = 0.03). In the interviews and focus groups, the students highlighted the competencies in the critical analysis developed in research courses. Conclusions. Students linked to research processes have higher scores on the EPAI and TQM scales, showing that research enhances skills related to self-directed learning and time management.

Roman prejudices against Greek physicians and medicine, which can be found throughout Latin literature from the second century B.C., were also manifested in Latin historiography. A study of a corpus of historical texts indicates that physicians tend to be depicted there as evil and conspiring characters. However, Curtius’ Historiae marks a radical change in this representation. To demonstrate this, the passage of Alexander’s healing after receiving a wound in India (Curt. 9.5.22-30) will be analyzed from a narratological and intertextual point of view.

Although apparently Tyrtaeus was the first Greek author to use the term φιλοψυχία, it was not until the Classical Age that it appeared again, scarcely, though; it can be found specifically in Euripides, Herodotus, a few of the orators, and Plato. This concept had a negative connotation, which is why, as opposed to ‘love for life’ (etymological meaning) it could actually be translated into ‘emotional attachment to life’. Such use seems peculiar given the pleasure for living this society held and used to express in their everyday actions, such as their feasts. This text will analyze the use of this term within its particular context to understand that dismissive use and, at the same time, go deeper into how fundamental community life used to be, when compared to the mere personal existence in this Greek age.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the study of nature and its secrets is highly relevant to complete the human’s educational process, according to Seneca the Younger. Therefore, two passages of Naturales Quaestiones will be analyzed here in which Seneca’s interest to living in compliance with human nature is clear, i.e., that we must pursue the seeking of wisdom, achieving knowledge, and reasoning. Thus, our educational process won’t be fulfilled if we forget, as humankind, to live according to our own nature; if we don’t act with moral rightness and if we refuse our soul’s completion and commonweal.

Lexicon plays a key role in learning any natural language and, certainly, Latin is no exception in this matter. From a practical perspective, a proof of this statement is its presence in the official Spanish Bachillerato curriculum and its relevance regarding the Evaluación para el Acceso a la Universidad (University Entrance Exam, abbreviated in Spanish as EvAU). Considering this, the aim of this paper is twofold. On the one hand, it seeks to analyse, in terms of frequency, the vocabulary of the texts proposed for the Latin II EvAU exam in the Community of Madrid, between 2004 and 2020. On the other hand, once the most frequent words have been identified, it aims to offer several activities based on «lexical constellations» strategy with the purpose of acquiring and consolidating this vocabulary in Latin class.

The profanation of the Mysteries and the mutilation of the Herms in 415 BC were two prominent events that involved impiety (asebeia). We have knowledge of these events mostly through the accounts of Thucydides and Plutarch, and also through the speeches of Andocides (And. 1) and [Lysias] ([Lys.] 6). This paper aims to analyse how these events are narrated in And. 1 through three complaints presented by the orator: Andromachus, Lydo and Diokleides. The complaints were used to determine the participation of citizens and the focus of this paper will be on Andocides and Alcibiades. In order to do this, this paper will be divided in two parts: the first is a brief description of the events of 415 BC and the significance of both the Herms and the Eleusinian Mysteries to the Athenian democracy; the second examines the rhetorical use of these events in And. 1.

Through the Arabic versions about Philip of Mahdia’s events, a 12th century Norman-Sicilian warlord at the service of Roger II, we will suggest a new reading of the passage that could date back to the narration related to Philip, today lost, by the historian Ibn al-Šaddād.

This paper aims to examine Euripides’ Hecuba from an interesting perspective, focusing on the neglected «other half» of the play’s production, that is, the audience. More concretely, the research studies the intra-dramatic signs through which Euripides demonstrates suitable models for the audience’s emotional and mental reaction to what is happening onstage.
