A simple and economic way of conducing demonstration experiments about liquid–liquid phase transitions is presented and discussed. Pairs of liquids are sealed in a series of ampoules and each ampoule is put in a beaker filled with either ice or hot water. Depending on the nature of the components mixed, the system can become homogeneous or heterogeneous. Three kinds of systems are discussed: a system with upper critical temperature, with lower critical temperature, and a system with both upper and lower critical temperature.

The purpose of this paper is to formulate a concept of corruption from a philosophical perspective that allows us to examine the kind of link between the State and its citizens behind the anomalous handling of government. Thus, based on Republican thinking, we argue that corruption is a practice of State domination based on the arbitrary interference of public officials in the design and execution of laws and policies, which undermines the legitimacy of political power and, consequently, the reasons for individuals to adhere to formal norms. This approach considers the evaluative and practical aspects of the term, and also the way in which corruption restricts people’s freedom to define and accomplish their interests.

The dominant approach in recent literature on forgiveness seems excessively moralizing. This, we argue, stems from the attempt to offer an explanation that subsumes all instances of forgiveness under a single, monolithic paradigm. We propose to defend a view that acknowledges to a greater extent the heterogeneity of cases of forgiveness and thus also has a deflationary effect on moralizing excesses. Identifying different types of interpersonal relationships and their characteristic expectations of reciprocity will be the basis for understanding what constitutes an offense and the various conditions for forgiveness under different circumstances.

The body has been a permanent object of intellectual hostility and social concern. Merleau-Ponty defended its priority in the understanding of the self versus rationalism. However, our time makes its features more imprecise and arbitrary when subjects to the productive and changing requirements of the consumerism and digital virtuality, questioning the identity of the self. The face especially suffers this commotion on the threshold of a posthumanist society. This work includes some philosophical reflections linked to sociological and interdisciplinary considerations, in search of a broad understanding of the body as an essential place of individuality.

Writing a text intended to conceptualize the historical emergency conditions of psychoanalysis is a task that requires attention to two considerations. One of discursive order, relative to the double relation of rupture and continuity in which its field is situated within the medical-scientific tradition of the time, and another destined to specify to what extent, as Lacan affirmed, the Freudian field could only be constituted from the emergence of the Cartesian subject of science. As we will see, both aspects coincide in a certain way. To locate the historical foundations of psychoanalysis is to establish the structure of their relations both with Cartesian philosophy and with the scientific discourse in that medical knowledge to which Freudian thought is both heir and deserter.

This article addresses the notion of care from its visibility in the debates promoted by feminisms in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Initially we refer to care in Marxist and socialist feminisms, where the term domestic work was coined. Next, we recover the relational dimension of care from the experiences of the self-consciousness groups promoted by American radical feminism. Finally, we focus on the debates about emancipation in liberal feminism, as well as the intersectionality of class-race-gender to think about the different types of oppression and their relations with black American feminism. We conclude by affirming the need to conceptualize care from a complex perspective, in relation to interdependence and vulnerability.

This text would like to present the more relevant philosophical ideas and concepts of contemporary critical theory established by Byung-Chul Han. Because of space constrains, we cannot explicitly reflect the discussion held with authors like Hardt, Negri, and Esposito, amongst others, and hope the reader discovers at what time it is confronted with their theories. It is a reflection on the impossibility of revolution in neoliberalism as economic order imposed by global capitalism and related transnational institutions, which reflect, how they impact so aggressively on subjectivity and objectivity of our daily life.

The objective of this article is to expose the problem behind the theory of property based on the mental experiment of Garret Hardin’s “tragedy of the commons” (TC), in the light of an evolutionary perspective of morality. For this, I will analyze the theories of the psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the utilitarian philosopher Joshua Greene and the primatologist Frans de Waal. These authors affirm that to understand morality, the emotion-reason relationship is a fundamental factor and, in turn, that emotion and not reason is the most important component to understanding morality. In the light of these developments, the TC is revealed as an imprecise instrument for the theory of property, due to the fact that it supposes purely rational agents that represent fictitious individuals.

The intention of this article is to show the contiguity between Nāgārjuna’s philosophy, known as the Middle Way, and the mystical experience. Through the analysis of the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā, the implicit vacuity of the idea itself of emptiness will be referred to and arguments will be collected to demonstrate the paradox that encloses any expression about the reality of the world and things. Likewise, based on two translations of the founder of the Madhyamaka’s main works, one carried out by Abraham Vélez and the other by Juan Arnau, Nāgārjuna’s mystical and philosophical contributions are pointed out, its link to Buda’s teachings are emphasized, and some fundamental sketches about what could be denominated metaphilosophy are contributed.
